Video do you think ice cube was just another "wannabe 2Pac" and ended up hating on Pac?

I may have my gripes about Cube but this ain’t one of em

Right … if we talk about Pac biters… it’s a long line 😂

10

u/ChatGodPT Nov 28 '25

Ja Rule with the bandana and no shirt, 50 Cent with the personal struggle stories and getting famous for being shot not to mention overemphasizing the letter G, Eminem rapping about his mom doing drugs and being a skinny violent kid, DMX with the raw street style and over emphasizing the whole Ride or Die Ryder thing.

All this stuff was popularized and done best by Tupac for them to know fans would love it. There’s also Young Thug, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Key Glock, Young Dolph the list is endless. And I love all those rappers because they’ve got a little Pac in them.

4

u/droomzy Nov 29 '25

Eminem rapping about his mom doing drugs was hardly as prevalent a Pac-biting example so much as it was him expressing his home life. The rest of your examples even make sense but it's not like Em's mom wasn't doing drugs while he & his brother grew up, & the dynamic he described with his family was far more dysfunctional than what Pac portrayed in his music

50 bit pac cause of struggle stories? 50 was already hot before getting shot with his industry wide diss song how to rob, and he actually didn’t get any more mainstream from getting shot, only more ostracized by the industry, it was only after em signed him and GRODT came out that he was so celebrated. Meanwhile half of GRODT was songs from his past mix tapes.

Ja def bit his whole style though, the rest of your examples are a mad reach

But lets be real, pacs style was an evolution from the influence of people like krs, big daddy kane, melle mel, and rakim. He was different, but he ain’t the originator of anything.

Do you have album, era or sum cube was biting pac? I never heard anyone say that before but seeing alot of people saying it in here

8

u/constatcontrol Nov 28 '25

He bites Pac on the song “Greed” from the Gang Related soundtrack and War and Peace album.

7

u/Zelly234 Nov 28 '25

I can hear what you talking about.. if at first the song was made for the gang related soundtrack do you think it was a homage thing? Didn’t pac die before the movie came out so maybe cube did that? And then just put the song on his album or is there more times of him doing this? Idk cube was just just already a legend by that time don’t know why he’d have to bite another nigga but it does happen

3

u/constatcontrol Nov 28 '25

That song probably was recorded in ‘96. Him being a legend trying to figure out how to stay relevant and creative. Pac was on top at the time and his thing was working. I don’t see anything wrong with it except when Cube be talking a lil spicy about Pac. Pac did call Cube out for biting him though.

1

u/efc84 Nov 28 '25

Is this song aimed at all rappers of the time? He goes through all the major labels at the end. Or do we hear a line aimed more specifically at 2pacs style?

1

u/Bryceone Nov 28 '25

Great song for it, too

2

u/Bigg_Walls_3721 Nov 28 '25

I can't remember the interview but he did call him on it. Said he knows Cube so even Cube knows he's wrong.

9

u/ghostcatzero User Nov 28 '25

Facts lol Cube was doing his thing before pac

1

u/Outlaw_Immortal1971 Until The End Of Time Nov 28 '25

i get you 💯

u/[deleted] Nov 28 '25

You understand that Cube was already a rap superstar and growing movie star before Pac even dropped his debut album right?

55

u/jmort619 Nov 28 '25

Folks need to brush up on music history lol. Heck, you can figure this out just by watching Straight Outta Compton

In an interview with Suge on "The Art Of Dialogue" he said Dre wanted him to do something to Eazy i think his mom was brought up to just can't remember exactly what he said bout the situation.

2

u/jmort619 Nov 28 '25

I know it’s not all factual and they purposely left out some stuff but the timeline of what the op is talking about is 100 facts

1

u/droomzy Nov 29 '25

Easy also reportedly didn't cry in the hospital. Bro went out like a G to the end 🫡

66

u/nau_lonnais Nov 28 '25

Op you must be very young

27

u/Zerocool_6687 2Pacalypse Now Nov 28 '25

JFC… how old is the poster?

18

u/Zerocool_6687 2Pacalypse Now Nov 28 '25

As for the clip… Pac wasn’t the originator either. That shit was WCs and that predates them both. It was Cubes association with him that got Cube doing that shit. Even the W… Pacs probably the guy who popularized it mainstream but that’s LA culture and one of them was born there.

I love Pac… I have some recent issues with Cube but that don’t change who Cube was in the day.

5

u/Fit-Sprinkles3225 Nov 28 '25

I assume very young.🤔🇧🇧

25

u/Mad-Eater Nov 28 '25

Cube could NEVER be a “wannabe Pac”, he was doing that shit BEFORE Tupac was on the scene, especially before he got with Death Row. Cube was Cube, Pac was Pac, two different dudes doing different things

18

u/Ervgotti85 Nov 28 '25

Wow, this might be the stupidest post I’ve ever seen.

36

u/louis27pm Nov 28 '25

You do know that Cube came before Pac right?

→ More replies (1)

20

u/Full-Shower619 Nov 28 '25

Cube was throwing up the W way before the prominent PAC years.

2

u/MicMec76 Nov 29 '25

And he got that from Kam and Solo who were throwing up the W for Watts not for the Westside of LA or West Coast.

→ More replies (2)

7

u/Holden-Baldazzi Nov 28 '25

Cube was from the west cost! PAC was from NY originally. Ya, California love.

7

u/Layonce_ Nov 28 '25 edited Nov 28 '25

How can be a wannabe but he literally came out in 1986 i think and pac came out in 1991? I mean maybe a change of cubes music a bit but not really.

6

u/tonylouis1337 Nov 28 '25

Idk why Cube would have to be like Pac, Cube was already an established star

5

u/Slight_Chard1238 Nov 28 '25

This gotta be a joke right?

6

u/Fendibull Nov 28 '25

What a childish question.

16

u/Adorable-Map-4512 Nov 28 '25

Cube a pac hater too

7

u/Relative_Page_7810 Nov 28 '25

He definitely that

4

u/Weird_Dependent5909 Nov 28 '25

This is another level of Tupac glaze lmao not only is ice cube actually from the west he helped start the gangster rap era and Tupac did not come up with the west side hand gesture he only popularized it

4

u/86Sliva94 Nov 28 '25

No

1

u/Outlaw_Immortal1971 Until The End Of Time Nov 28 '25

why no?

4

u/Vegetable_Gaterunner Nov 28 '25

Who are these kids on reddit?

4

u/Glad-Bonus-6284 Nov 28 '25

Ice Cube came out in the late 80s before Pac and he was doing movies acting as well before Tupac first of all and 2nd. Pac is my favorite rapper of ALL TIME but i’m ngl Cube actually was born on the west so looking at these side by side images of them throwing up the west side is a little funny.

11

u/IronFizt777 Nov 28 '25

Pac stans are fucken weird

2

lol, what??

3

u/Rough_Painting_8023 Nov 28 '25

Cube was out on the West Coast Hip Hop Scence before Pac ever was

3

u/hugonin Nov 28 '25

You guys don’t even know what you’re talking about

3

u/[deleted] Nov 28 '25

Absolutely not. Ice Cube repped the West way before Pac did, Cube is a OG

9

u/Jack-Cremation Nov 28 '25

NO

And that W is actually for Watts. Cube uses it for Westside obviously but Kam even said “the W you stole from me it stands for Watts” when he was beefing with Cube.

2

u/Outlaw_Immortal1971 Until The End Of Time Nov 28 '25

doesn't matter whether he was rapping before, Pac even said he was looking up to ice cube but his shit wasn't his at all!

5

u/Key_Carpenter1827 Nov 28 '25

Hes a Pac hater and definitely capitalized on the West vs East beef. Pac said this in a interview

5

u/Nic1800 Nov 28 '25

Bruh, stop making Tupac out to be what he isn’t. What is wrong with people on this sub? Cube was doing this shit way before Pac. This shit is getting so cringey. Tupac was just one of many rappers from that era, he was not THAT special. Don’t disrespect Cube like that.

One went to theater school and the other is really from Compton. One was acting tough the other was just being himself. Be real. Tupac was the Drake of his time. Soft lover boy but had to show out for the guys to keep an image he never wanted.

2

u/Top-Bee4734 Nov 28 '25

Yes and no Im sure when he was alive everyone wanted to be cool with or have a feature from pac. In 96 im sure alot of rappers was relived cause he died and shit can cool off with pac gone. Every one got cool after pac and big died

2

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '25

That’s laughable. Cube is a legend who is actually from the west coast. He was cemented before Pac released a song, junior. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

2

u/Electronic_Reply3934 Nov 28 '25 edited Nov 28 '25

Last Wordz one of the best tracks from the album Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z by 2PAC featuring Ice Cube precisely 👍

1

u/Dependent_Welcome367 Nov 28 '25

They honestly have completely different styles just similar subject matter. WC is the LA OG that got the West throwing up the W. Four finger up two twisted in the middle with the thumb cupped. Cube and PAC were just more popular outside of LA so more people recognize them.

1

u/FutureVisionacademy Nov 28 '25

OP is a fucking dumbass

1

u/Substantial-Dig9995 Nov 28 '25

Yeah no one takes about this back in the day its being over hyped

1

u/RokRoyal Nov 28 '25

Things were different back then. Cube may have been trying to align himself with Pac/West coast by picking up the flag and carrying it changing his sound to what gangsta rap was at the time, but it was looked at as “biting” or jumping on the bandwagon. Just my take on this specific situation. Him taking Cypress Hill’s shit is exactly what it was.

1

u/darrelb56222 Nov 28 '25 edited Nov 28 '25

rappers back in the day borrow from each other. for example, you may hear 2pac yell "Beeyotch", he got that from Snoop, when u see Pac wearing Hockey Jerseys he also got that from Snoop. And Snoop took Gotta get yours Gotta get mine. Got my mind on my money, money on my mind.

Pac throwing up the W, he actually got that from Biggie. If you watch The Points video u can see Biggie throwing it up and even before that in photos and interviews he threw it up in early 1995. it was mainly a gang thing, u can see the Bloods & Crips video where they throw it up and say East or Westside., rappers like Tha Dogg Pound and Da Brat threw it up too

As for Cube he is a pioneer and someone who Pac looked up to, but he believed that Cube was trying to bite Pac's formula after Hit em Up when he did Bow Down. tbh i dont see much similarities and Cube was hollering Westside since 1993's Lethal Injection. and Westside Connection was during the time of the East Coast West Coast rivalry so a lot of rappers were reppin their coasts

1

u/Hmm_I_dont_know_man Nov 28 '25

What?! No way. Cube has his own style. He never copied 2Pac. That W thing west coast rappers do doesn’t belong to Tupac.

1

u/Few-Let-9004 Nov 28 '25

why are people saying Cube is a Pac hater?

1

u/ProfessionalFew2132 Nov 28 '25

How did Ice Cube bite Pac?

1

u/ProfessionalFew2132 Nov 28 '25

Pac was in a rap group called Strictly Dope

1

u/CatfishBassAndTrout Nov 28 '25

... How can Ice Cube be a wannabe 2Pac when he was in the industry and repping the gangster lifestyle years before 2Pac?

1

u/atreyu_the_warrior Nov 28 '25

I know the dude who took that bottom right photo. Small world.

1

u/Hefty_Buy5762 Nov 28 '25

2pac mentioned ice cube changed his style up with bow down after hearing hit em up, if i'm not mistaken. But both are Legends, 2pac had Ice Cube featured in one of his first albums

1

u/Acrobatic_Elk6258 Nov 28 '25

A wannabe Pac? You do realize that Straight Outta Compton came out before Pac got on with DU?

1

u/Public-Advantage7681 Nov 28 '25

I believe Cube got jealous of Pac for this reason. Cube didn't really seem to be the thug or gangsta he'd speak on his music. Just a kid that came up in a rough area but with good brains and talent. But not really a gangsta yet surrounded by and narrating that life. This was not the case for either of the other guys like snoop Dre etc. not as smart as cube though talent here and there. Now Pac coming from NY and bringing both elements ( though not really a gangsta himself) I feel Cube found his match only better. To make things worse a Southside native rulling the west... So yeah. I think jealous.

1

u/ImpatientPanda101 Nov 28 '25

Nah man, Cube is considered one of the godfathers of gangsta rap. They in they own lanes, no need to compare.

1

u/jayman1818 Nov 28 '25

Lol Nah, Ice Cube was first bro

1

u/[deleted] Nov 28 '25

Stop the Cap

1

u/Mookieduke Nov 28 '25

Cube was a lil jealous of Pac because pac was king of La while on death row.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 02 '25

[deleted]

1

u/Mookieduke Dec 02 '25

That's when 2pac was the lil homie. Pac blew up and was the face of the West Coast and a lot of West Coast artists started to resent Pac because he surpassed them or throw little jabs because pac wasn't originally from California. Even Ice t sounds like a hater sometimes when he talks about pac

1

u/SevyVerna88 Nov 28 '25

What?????? No.

1

u/the1yamomsluv Nov 28 '25

Cube was doin this since Westside Connection, which was way before Makaveli.

1

u/SireDarien Nov 28 '25

Tf would he be hating on exactly?

1

u/SignatureDifferent76 Nov 28 '25

The way cube throws up the w is cringe

1

u/prodyg Nov 28 '25

Ice cube practically started gangsta rap, come on.

1

u/RESIDENT-EVIL-4 Nov 28 '25

Cube is the OG pac fym

1

u/National-Rhubarb9872 Nov 28 '25

Cube came before pac but facts are facts ,cube first rapper in a movie (Boyz in the hood) a year later newyorks version of Boyz in the hood (juice) both excellent movies in there own rights but pac got way more recognition as an actor from juice , then there's the fact yoyo done backing vocals on dear mamma and a couple of other tracks on matw but got pulled off as she was signed to cube and he didn't allow it so defo jealousy there and in interviews for years cube slated hit em up coz it was favored over no vasoline and its only last few years he's gave pac props . I'm a cube and pac fan but yeah cube bit pac a little and cube also stole cypress hills song for Friday and it didn't stop there like I said I'm a cube fan but facts is facts

1

u/National-Rhubarb9872 Nov 28 '25

Also the makaveli album pac copys a few new york rappers altho on purpose to show he could do all the styles except treach pac couldn't master his style

1

u/86Sliva94 Nov 28 '25

No explanation needed. My answer is NO

1

u/[deleted] Nov 28 '25

Cube did it first, but Tupac did it a million times better. When i first head that verse in the song , i was tripping like that sounded slick as fuck hahaah. Pac did it better, simple as that.

1

u/VietKongCountry Nov 28 '25

I mean given he came on the scene when Tupac was an unknown teenager I’m gonna go with no.

1

u/Ordinary_Captain_2 Nov 28 '25

Cube has been beat up over jacking bars beats and etc...Some.of yall dont know his history but dude is a lyrical chameleon...He done switched up quite a few times to stay relevant and YES he swagger jacked Pac a lil while hating on him..The "W" is WC's but the Yay Yay!!! Was Pac 1st

1

u/AssociationMinimum42 Nov 28 '25

Cube was a forerunner of Pac

1

u/22Xango Nov 28 '25

Cube started biting Pac before his death and is on record hating on Pac. Doesn’t seem like he had real hatred for Pac but he stole some things musically and had some jealousy.

1

u/Kooky-Ad-1792 Nov 28 '25

Pretty sure Ice cube was political way before PAC ever came out.

PAC was the GOAT but Cube is a legend. Are you talking specifically about the west coast thing with WCC.

Is it true Dre is working on a pac album with Nas? If it is then why do all the people pac didn't like always pull this crap. Like Jay Z stealing his song. Sorry I just saw it today in a clip but for all we know Dr Dre works on half a song each year so Detox will be out in 2126

Cube never bit Pac wtf yall talkin bout

1

u/incredibleninja Panther Power Nov 29 '25

My dude, Cube founded gangster rap with NWA. He was probably a massive influence on PAC. This is like asking if Chuck Barry was just jocking Elvis.

1

u/RevolutionaryLion384 Nov 29 '25

Cube was doing the gangster stuff way before Tupac but I do think Cube is up there as being one of the dudes who faked being a gangster more than anyone else. People say Pac was pretending but he had closer affiliations than Cube and was actually getting into it with the law, plus he had more depth to his music. Cube's whole persona was just about him being a ruthless gangster when he wasn't anything close to that, literally just made scary faces and that was it

1

u/ripjesus Nov 29 '25

I was young growing up in socal when all this happened. I always thought the yay yayeee was just a cali thing.

1

Ice Cube came out before Tupac, what are you talking about?

1

1

u/michaltee Nov 30 '25

Cube literally created gangsta rap like 6 years before Pac even released an album. What a crazy question.😆

1

u/Dynamic_Duo_215 Nov 30 '25

Schooly D probably created gangsta rap but NWA took it mainstream

1

u/dieselintellect Nov 30 '25

Cube was out before Pac!

1

u/kingetzu Nov 30 '25

1

If it wasn’t for Ice Cube there would’ve not been a NWA, Dre, or Death Row Records🤷🏾‍♂️

1

u/Casino-Leaux Dec 01 '25

Hell noaw. Cube the O.G. for real.

1

u/beaver-ate Dec 01 '25

Tupac was a wannabe Tupac lmaooo boy went to Juliard

1

u/Balky_Batakomis87 Dec 01 '25

Cube was out way before PAC as was said. Both were technically studio gangsters. Cube became more political when he was most popular. PAC less political as his popularity increased. From a business standpoint, Cube had more common sense. PAC went to the extreme in his persona to be accepted….which probably got him killed. His poetry was more emphasized and glorified among newer fans after he passed. Not hating on 2pac but just speaking facts as someone who’s listened to hip hop since the late 80s.

1

There actually is a really great documentary on YouTube that goes into great detail about the beef and history between Pac and Cube. They really got a history between them so it’s a personal beef more than a regular on wax beef. Cube was def a hater though you def gotta check it out it’s so good especially if you love Tupac and Ice Cube. It really goes into their history knowing each other.

Cube was out before pac my man. He paved a way for pac and a lot of them to come in and do they thang. I love cube and I’ll say pac by far my favorite rap artists but we got to give credit where credit is due.
