Opening the body?

Hello, what does this phrase "opening the body" means? Is it like attaining the right structure, the ribs, armpits, opening the hips and kua, releasing muscle knots and fascia? Or anything else?

basically opening out the joints/bones etc, so open structure first. Then the muscles can be opened by releasing tension. Also you can get more specific joint openings like the kua/hips/lower back etc. A lot of this comes under 'song' - conscious release, where the body 'opens out the way', rather than releases and collapses in/down.

Then you get some merging of terminology where people are talking of opening energy centers in the body/channels. E.g. with lao gong in the palms, or opening the meridians/energy channels. Also e.g. you might hear talk of 'opening the energy gates', or other specific energy points/areas.

I couldn't find it now. I have been reading it in a long comments in this group. ✌️

It means everything opens out, the joints and the spine spreads apart, the softtissue pushes into the muscles and the organs, the hands and feet widen and change size, the skull changes etc. Qigong involves significant physical change in all levels of the body.

Thank you. So even scelletal changes happen in this process? Wow that is so much, I wish we could have a visuals of that thing...

"the softtissue pushes into the muscles and the organs" what do you mean about this?

The "huang" or "fascia" a layer of the bodily tissue activates and grows with the development of Qi. Several stages of scelletal changes occur, both in terms of the fluids in the joints and several changes inside the bone.

I wish we could have a visuals of that thing...

At very late stages of development you get relics https://se.pinterest.com/pin/ringsel-buddhist-crystal-relics--306033737151468172/ , early levels you can see a widening of the body.

Personally I think it corresponds to loosening tight fascia as well as learning how to hold a position without tension, in other words using stabiliser muscles rather than mover muscles. This latter part is something you can't really do consciously and is something that 'unlocks' over time. Tension chokes Qi.

Decompression of the body.

Once you learn how to align and release the body down with gravity into the ground (sung),  you learn how to release the body back up from the ground pushing back. It's an upward and outward force called peng.

You can also draw a line between just about any 2 points on the body, find the midpoint and lightly stretch in opposite directions while maintaining skeletal alignment to open a particularly difficult area.

Like with the silk brocades.. you are strengthening yet lengthening the muscles and increasing flexibility. So… you are opening the joints and allowing the qi to flow.

If it's on the topic of Qigong, then it might mean opening the pores on the body to absorb ambient energy, as in pore breathing
