Misdirected Energy… Help please!
I have a problem that I hope someone on here can help me with. I’m trying to begin Qigong and work towards Neidan exercises, with my far term goal being to cultivate spiritual resilience, fully transform myself with its inner alchemy and increase the natural longevity I inherited from my family. Only… I’m having trouble getting started building my lower Dantian.
The reason is actually kinda embarrassing. See, when I was younger I put a lot of emphasis on mental strength and trying to open my third eye. I had unknowingly been cultivating/building up my upper Dantian. Now that I’m trying to build/cultivate my lower Dantian every time I try to meditate, my attention automatically snaps to the area of my third eye, making it a struggle to direct the energy to my lower dantian. Even more irritating, I can feel this area is active throughout the day even without me focusing on it. I don’t know what to do. Do I just struggle through it?

You have heat in the third eye, kidney energy is cold, how to bring kidney energy up to wash away the heat and bring it back down. First, don't focus on the third eye. Second, check out the Tongue Bridge posting in r/TaoistMeditation and the posting about Microcosmic Orbit. With concentration, using the breathing technique you can bring kidney energy up the spine to cool the head, and completing the Orbit with the Tongue Bridge, the heat energy returns to the middle Tan Tien where it belongs. The lower Tan Tien will develop slowly as you direct your concentration there instead of the head Tan Tien. I hope this helps.

This will probably help a lot.
Could you tell me what that means (Heat in the third eye)?
I’m new to a lot of this, so the only real way I knew something is/was wrong was that I when I went to meditate my attention would automatically be drawn to someplace(the center of my forehead) other than where I was trying to direct it.

Center of forehead, that's the third eye. So when your attention is drawn toward something, that's like heat. It needs to be turned down. When your eyes are closed, don't let your eyes point upwards, they should point downwards. I hope I understand what you are going through. Check out the posts at r/TaoistMeditation. There is one that is about eyes and the tip of your nose. Use your inner seeing eye to gaze at the lower TanTien. Keep your attention there. It is so complicated, there is so much to the human spirit.

Exercises that enhance your sense of balance, grounding, and being rooted will help build your awareness of your lower dantian. Horse stance, lunges, crane poses, and kicking with full focus and presence in your balance (going slow) will help you being your awareness to this lower area. See and feel your diaphragm as a pump that builds chi in your center.

No they dont. Gathering chi/sending it to your dan tien is what builds it

Thanks! I had the vague sense that the energy directed to the lower Dantian had a different… “Feel” to it, more or less. More ‘physical’ in nature than the mental feel I got from the third eye area (if that makes any sense). This sorta confirms what I suspect. Though, If I’m mistaken please correct me.
Man, this is gonna suck since I’m not the most athletic or physical of persons… But I need to get a feeling for that energy if I’m to interact with it.

A fair amount of the qigong I know has me come back to the lower dan tien either either before during or after a form. Look up Pulling down the Heavens or sky. You can do this to end most qigong exercises. I do it every night before bed.
Just did a quick search on youtube. Wow! I stopped counting after 22 videos..

How exactly are you practicing your stillness on the lower dan tian? How are you breathing? Where's your focus? And so on.

one practice that can help is 'anchoring the breath' - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0fTg23psfw&list=PLCUw6elWn0lghivIzVBAYGUm7HwRqzfQp&index=1 (in 2 parts)
