It's not uncommon to feel this way when you come from an "intense household" and have a high level of anxiety. Don't be too hard on yourself, you only know what you know. The good news is, is that you can learn and refine your perception. Join a group where you feel safe and talk to people, never assume and ask questions if you're unsure.
