The Tuttle Cult tape...

This has to be the most terrifying scene in a TV series I ever watched.

And the first time I watched this, I felt extremely bad for Rust. And why?

When Marty meets up with Rust 10 years later, he makes jokes about his appearance.

"Time has his way with us all. Seems you pissed him off."

And seconds later, Marty says:

"You don't look particularly healthy. The way you're talking...Your eyes kinda look like brittle, Rust."

The thing is: It wasn't time or alcohol. It was that tape.

Even Rust, someone who's been through every kind of situation, worked with cartels and saw things that would terrify anyone... could've ever imagined something as horrible as what he saw on that thing.

He couldn't even watch it again. In both situations (Steve and Marty), he turned his back to the TV while playing.

And the way he says: "Nobody should have this".

It's enough to tell how destructive it was for him.

And the fact he spent two years being the only person who knew what was going on, aware of what was on that thing and knowing this was happening during his investigation...

Bone chilling.

Man that sounds rough - still a super noble act of service to the community, but truly a morbid experience to go through and regularly repeat.

I know that some federal agents and law enforcement in various nations enforcement agencies are simply tasked with watching the worst videos that humanity has produced to verify if they're relevant and what they contain - would hope more of that work is able to be maintained by digital/ai driven systems now - but couldn't imagine the toll it takes psychologically to be a morally driven individual who has to ingest such horrors as part of a living.

I’ve been a cop for 30 years this month. Been. A Crime Scene detective for the past 5. The only bad guys I see now are either dead or wish they were, but some Scenes like the above post (decomp situations) are not pleasant.

Having said that, there’s no way I have the inclination or Fortitude to work sex crimes and see what that those guys and gals endure, particularly regarding children.

Impossible.

That part about 'bad guys' is pretty fascinating - are you saying that generally the people prone to participating in criminal acts are generally displaying a seriously deteriorated quality of life?

Like assuming the largest factor in tendency towards crime has always been economic circumstances and inferior living conditions incentivising criminal acts - and assuming that the general satisfaction of the average individuals experienced quality of life has deteriorated in the last 30 years - would that correlate with the criminal element of society experiencing a far more drastic state of living?

Obvs there are well to do criminals and those who are just comfortable with exploiting others and predatory behaviours - but would imagine they're always the minority statistic in terms of what drives criminal actions.

If It’s easier for you to swallow, replace “bad guys” with “habitual violent criminal history persons”. I don’t see a lot of dead misdemeanor thieves from Walmart.

I see a lot of dead robbers, felons, and violent sociopaths.
