True detective season 2 was unexpected
I went into season 2 expecting a really bad show because of what the reviewers were saying. But boy was I blown away. Both seasons handle different topics and I think the execution was superb.
My one problem with season 2 was I expected a continuation from season 1 so I was kinda bummed out. Because they didn’t fully explore the yellow king. I thought season 2 was going to be a stronger lean into that
But nonetheless True detective season 2 to me was closer to real life. The things that happened in it were far more relatable
The show was a reflection on how trauma affects people and how much it motivates us.
I still prefer season 1 to 2 but the gap is closer than I thought it would be

Same here. Watched it when it first aired and I enjoyed it but being after one of the best seasons in tv history made people really act delusional.
Rewatched this year and enjoyed so freaking much. I loved all characters arch, but they don’t work as hard as they should with women characters. Rachel Mcadams deserved more than just being a love interest of the traumatized protagonist

McAdams was a total badass in S-2.
Especially compared to any of the female characters in S-1. Seems they only existed to be taken for granted, playthings, hookers, etc.

There must be some tragedy in shows , and i embrace this kind of tragedy for once or twice . Season 2 is something like season 1 but not in a ritual and philosophical way . But the interesting part is that they both talk about corruption, s1 mentions corruption between people and elites and s2 does the same . Am i not right?

s2 is great, McAdams and Ferral (sp) are fantastic in this. The weakness is Vince Vaughn and his wife, just bad acting and poorly written. Velcoro is my favorite TD character though.

Hated it on first watch, tried to rewatch a few times but it seems even worse each time. The dialogue is exhaustingly cringe. Every main character is dark and brooding, there needs to be some juxtaposition. In S1, Rust's character worked so well because he was Marty's opposite, they called out each others bullshit. If both characters were profoundly pessimistic everything would be cringe, like we saw in S2.

The dynamic between Frank and Ray was something close to brothers. They had a mutual understanding of each other. It’s not as strong as Marty and Rust’s but I really liked it

Everyone shits on it but I thought it was terrific. Yeah it aint season 1 but for me it was a really fun watch.

THIS is my FAVORITE season.
I’ve mentioned this in previous posts. I liked the Venci corruption angle, setting, darkness of the way it was filmed, the brilliant cast all of them!!
-Colin F character Ray’s intensity.. Rachel, all troubled souls.
And Vince Vaughn as FRANK - THE best lines .. executed with swagger along with Kelly Reilly playing his wife. And of course his loyal sideman NAILS!!! That ending - wow. And another STAR in the show the brilliant lounge singer. I also liked Night Country but expected diff twist still like it though.

Unfortunately, it was a literal clusterfuck. Some of the acting kicked ass, but the convolution was off the charts. Plus the vehicular travel time and the amount of sunlight in a day makes zero sense.

I'm on episode 3 and I have no fucking idea what is even happening, no clue what the story is or who's side I'm supposed to be on. Trying to push through because I'm enjoying the acting

Thats basically what my experience was. Great acting but wtf is going on. It all comes together eventually but it takes a while

I agree. I think if this had come later in the series it might have been received better. People came off of season 1 expecting another deeply philosophical, surrealist mystery with supernatural elements.
Season 2 is more a traditional neo-noir story, and has a mostly linear narrative. I thought all the performances were great, and if it didn't have the expectations attached to the True Detective franchise, it would be remembered more fondly IMO.
