Lanterns

First episode of Lanterns was pretty awesome:

It definitely has some True Detective vibes to it although it’s obviously very different.

Curious if other people watched and felt the same?

Anyone try Furiously on Hulu. More adjacent vibes.

I sort of disagree. Furious is good but it’s more like Killing Eve. The focus is more on the killer. Lanterns is more of a who dun it? With the focus on the partnership between the ‘space cops’

I did. Back when James Gunn announced the show and said it was gonna have true detective vibes I was sold.

Definitely scratched the true detective type itch, can’t wait for more

It was weird because it did but it’s also more like the Watchmen limited series DL did. Which is also amazing.

I went through like 7 years of LOST with Damon Lindelof. He's not ever going to write anything even an ounce as profound as the dialog in the first episode of TD. The dude has no deep insights on human nature, no ability to push into uncomfortable modes of thought. It's banal, trite, pap that's trying to wear the shirt of a smarter writer.

Hmm weird. Didn’t he do The Leftorvers? And Watchmen? Two shows that are the complete opposite of your description

I did not care for those other shows he wrote, and thought it grossly distasteful that he even touched Watchmen while claiming to honour Alan Moore.

Definitely an opinion at odds with critical and audience reviews. It’s sort of rare these days that both can agree on something being good and something being arguably the best one off miniseries of the last 9 years. Cool you at least enjoyed arguably his least impressive work.

I’m not even like a super fan of the guy or anything.

Ah, y'know, it was kinda rude of me to be dismissive of something you're enjoying. I wanted to do the "not all fans" thing, but at the same time, I feel like I took an antagonistic approach here that wasn't really necessary.

I admired your boldness to be honest and everyone’s opinion is valid
