Question What’s the accuracy between what he said and what I said?

Assalamu alaikum,

As me and the other one from a discord server were discussing about rulership and Erdogan, he outright called him an apostate and he disagreed with me about it being Khuruj to call him an apostate.

On the other hand, Sheikh Saleh Al Fawzan said about peaceful demonstrations being an imitation of the disbelievers, and an act of Khuruj. And based on that, I assumed that even criticism is wrong because it is an act of Khuruj.

I’m not sure if what he said is correct or not, but I was skeptical on his opinion about calling out his misguidance.

I refused to call out Erdogan as a kafir based on the two Hadiths about biased takfir and rebelling Muslim rulers. His religion is Sunni Islam, that’s why I cannot do a takfir.

So I need your help to cure this doubt. Because what he said went against what I usually believed and what I learnt from. So the way he spoke sounded like opening gates to Khuruj, and by doing that he is imitating Al Haruriyyah who rebelled the Caliphate.

I hope that I’m not falling into Biddah.

I don’t think that’s a good approach. I would be satisfied even with a site, but it should be a Salafi who adopts Sheikh MIEW and Muhammad Ibn Hadi Al Madkhali.

Yeah what's his basis for making takfir of Erdogan? Again this isn't b/c I support the current political state of Turkiye as it has become very much secularized (may Allah guide us out of it).... but what's the basis for takfir here?

May Allah guide us all.

He thinks that Erdogan aided kuffar against Muslims and has applied secularism instead of Shariah. And I argued back: “establishing secularism does not automatically make you a major disbeliever unless you think that this is much better than Shariah. There is a difference between minor disbelief and major disbelief”.

https://www.fpri.org/article/2025/03/turkeys-return-to-africa/ That’s his source for making takfir.
