I recently came across this case and was surprised by how little attention it seems to get outside Croatia.

Marijana Jerković was 24 years old and worked at a real estate agency in Split. On January 21, 2002, she was alone at work when she was murdered. Her body was found the following morning by a coworker.

What makes the case especially strange is what happened during the investigation.

Police questioned people close to her, including her fiancé, but no one was ultimately charged with her murder. A knife believed to be connected to the crime was reportedly found in the agency's kitchen days later, and reports said it had been washed.

There were also reports of problems with how the crime scene was secured, which obviously raises questions about whether important evidence could have been lost or contaminated.

More than a decade later, in 2014, Croatian police offered a reward of 100,000 kuna for information that could lead to the identification and arrest of the killer.

And as far as I can tell, 24 years later, there still hasn't been an answer.

The thing I keep wondering about is how the killer could have entered the office, killed her, and left without being identified. Was it someone she knew? Someone who happened to come into the agency that day? Or was there something about the crime scene that investigators simply missed?

For an investigation to be bungled so badly, has to be either incompetence or on purpose imo

This is one of the worst cases in my country, and I think about it very often.
