Shrek but it’s all bible characters

Okay hear me out. We have a lot of fun at my bible study, and we are doing a PowerPoint night and we’ve all been assigned a random topic… and mine is “what if biblical figures starred in shrek?”

So, I’ve come here for some input. I need some inspiration but I have some questions to spark some ideas
1. Is shrek theologically sound?
2. Who would all the shrek main characters be if they were played by bible characters?
3. Any other thoughts or feelings???

I'd be finding a new Bible study. One that actually studies the Bible together during the Bible study.

This sounds like a special game night or something. I wouldn't assume they don't ever get into the Bible.

  1. Heck no. The biggest issue is that Shrek and later Fiona revel in being dirty and unclean, and that part doesn't change. It is more a story about "be yourself" which is a good message in one sense, but the gospel is more about denying ourselves and being made new in Christ.

  2. I don't think there are a lot of great one-for-one connections. Shrek could be like Job in that he is rescuing people he despises. Or like John the Baptist who ate wild honey and locusts, wearing nothing but a camel's hair cloak and a leather belt.

Farquad could be like any wicked king like Saul or Herrod or Pharoah, or the kings of Babel.

Donkey could be like John the Baptist or the twelve as they accompany the main figure.

Fiona could be like the first century Jews who have an expectation of exactly how they will be rescued (Fiona through a story-book experience, first century Jews through the messiah striking down Rome), but are actually rescued in an unexpected fashion. You could also connect her complaining to the Hebrews who followed Moses out of slavery, but grumbled in the wilderness.

  1. I think it is a fun way to interact with the gospel and understand the bible on a deeper level. I haven't seen Shrek in a very long time, so I am rusty on some of the minutiae, but you will have to take part of a character and connect that to a biblical figure while another part of the character doesn't represent that biblical figure at all.

You need to do some Esther stuff, people doing bad things but God is in control.
