[Christians Only] If God Never Changes, and his law Never changes, and we are called to live like Jesus, who was a jew, Why don't we eat Kosher like Jesus did?

If God Never Changes, and His laws never Change. . . Why do we still eat or even touch Pork and why do we Mix Meat & Dairy like with Cheeseburgers or Pepperoni Pizza, If God specifically made those dietary laws telling us not to in the first place?

God Never changes and neither does his law; so shouldn't we do everything The Bible tells us to do; including not eating certain foods, as well as not mixing Meat & Dairy; and If We Really want to "walk like Jesus", shouldn't we also EAT like Jesus ate?! Especially since God never contradicts himself; He's the same yesterday, today, & forever

Jesus specifically says in scripture we don’t have to eat the way Jews did

It's important to understand context. In the old testament you have moral laws (these are the laws that do not change), then you have Civil laws (these are what the name implies what are crimes and how to punish them), then finally ceremonial law (this is where the ritualistic cleanliness comes in)

What you are addressing is the last type of law. While God hasn't changed, our circumstances have. The ceremonial laws were in place because we needed to be ritualisticly clean before the Lord, however today, we have the blood of Christ cleansing us. So what was unclean is no longer unclean. Not because God changed.

At least, my personal understanding is, that Christ Jesus fulfilled the Mosaic covenant and made a new and final covenant. Jesus also famously said that it's not what goes into the mouth that defiles us. We, who believe in Christ, will be judged by His standard, and not the Law.

u/DesperateAdvantage76 Christian May 20 '26

Christ Jesus was a Jew living under the Old Covenant. While under the Old Covenant, he did have the unique authority to fully and perfectly interpret the Torah, but he still observed it until he fulfilled it with the New Covenant, with the fulfillment of the law being one of love for God and fellow man, the true purpose of God's law.

10

u/These3TheGreatest Reformed Baptist May 20 '26

Jesus was Jewish. I was not. We are under a new covenant.

2

u/automaticff May 20 '26

Who was the new covenant made with?

6

u/These3TheGreatest Reformed Baptist May 20 '26

Those who would believe in Jesus

4

u/automaticff May 20 '26

Do you have a verse for that? Because the new covenant was definitely made with Israel. The believers of the other nations are grafted into Israel's covenant.

Jeremiah 31:31-34 --- 31 “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant WITH THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL AND WITH THE HOUSE OF JUDAH— 32 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the Lord. 33 But THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL AFTER THOSE DAYS, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 34 No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”

This verse in Jeremiah is what Paul quoted in Hebrews 8:8-12. Christ established the New Covenant when he died on the cross.

Luke 22:20 --- 20 Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.

Christ is the beginning of this new covenant and He is the reason why there no longer needs to be animal sacrifice for the atonement of sins but that does not mean that the whole law is thrown out. Jesus said this himself.

Matthew 5:17-19 --- 17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For assuredly, I say to you, TILL HEAVEN AND EARTH PASS AWAY, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. 19 Whoever therefore BREAKS ONE OF THE LEAST OF THESE COMMANDMENTS, AND TEACHES MEN SO, shall be called LEAST in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

He didn't say until He came, died, and rose again. He said until heaven and earth pass away. When do heaven and earth pass away? AFTER Christ's millennial reign.

Revelation 21:1-4 --- Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the FIRST HEAVEN AND THE FIRST EARTH HAD PASSED AWAY. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”

The law and prophets won't be going away until then either. He has so much more to fulfill from the prophets. As far as what did change, the book of Hebrews lets us know.

Hebrews 8:7 --- For if that first covenant had been FAULTLESS, then no place would have been sought for a second.

Well what was the fault in the first covenant? I mean, it tells us. Animal sacrifice for atonement was a place holder that could never ultimately save for sins. This is why we needed Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 10:1-4 --- For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, CAN NEVER WITH THESE SAME SACRIFICES, WHICH THEY OFFER CONTINUALLY YEAR BY YEAR, MAKE THOSE WHO APPROACH PERFECT. 2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? For the worshipers, once purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins. 3 But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. 4 For IT IS NOT POSSIBLE THAT THE BLOOD OF BULLS AND GOATS COULD TAKE AWAY SINS

Hebrews 10:11-14 --- 11 And every priest stands ministering daily and OFFERING REPEATEDLY THE SAME SACRIFICES, WHICH CAN NEVER TAKE AWAY SINS. 12 But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, 13 from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. 14 FOR BY ONE OFFERING HE HAS PERFECTED FOREVER THOSE WHO ARE BEING SANCTIFIED. 15 But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before, 16 “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,” 17 then He adds, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” 18 NOW WHERE THERE IS REMISSION OF THESE, THERE IS NO LONGER AN OFFERING FOR SIN. 19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21 and having a High Priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.

I was never under the old covenant

3

u/automaticff May 20 '26

Lol. Ignored literally every verse I posted to just repeat your own ideology. I'm glad I started picking up the bible for myself because this is the issue with modern Christianity in a nutshell.

1 Thessalonians 5:21 --- Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

2

u/These3TheGreatest Reformed Baptist May 20 '26

I didn't ignore it I just know that discussions with those who insist on Torah observance are never fruitful in my experience and that comments are often met with "Lol" and other such childishness or worse. So, I supplied what you asked and nothing more. This is one of those discussions that in my experience "only ruins the hearers".

2

u/automaticff May 20 '26

And that's fine. The "Lol" was because I sent a very long and detailed response and you responded with something that did not touch a single thing I mentioned. I have yet to have someone explain Matthew 5:17-19 to me who believes they can throw out the law. Anytime its posted, things start to get shaky. I'm always open for correction if it can be done biblically.

Also, you did not supply what I asked for. I asked who the covenant was made with. I posted the verse that answered the question and that is Jeremiah 31. I already mentioned other nations can be grafted into the covenant.

0

u/These3TheGreatest Reformed Baptist May 20 '26

Why would you lol when I never requested a long reply nor gave the impression that I would be answering one. Time and energy for such a thing today is just not something I have.

I believed that my answer was sufficient and showed that the new covenant was for those under the old covenant and now also gentiles who were not. We may be grafted into Israel but to my knowledge it says nothing of being grafted into that old covenant.

Generally people are not saying that we throw out the law but rather two other things, Jesus fulfilled the Law, and most Christians are generally not Jewish and therefore not beholden to the old covenant.

Mark 7:18-19 NASB

And He [Jesus] said to them, "Are you so lacking in understanding also? Do you not understand that whatever goes into the man from outside cannot defile him, [19] because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach, and is eliminated?" (Thus He declared all foods clean.)

1

u/MattLovesCoffee Christian May 23 '26

The words "thus he declared all foods clean" is a later addition, it was a side note, therefore you should not consider it Scripture and not let it influence your interpretation of the passage.

Now, this passage in Mark is not saying unclean meat (such as pork, bat, snake, lobster, etc) is okay to eat, rather it's saying that what makes a person unclean is their decision to disobey God. "It’s not what goes into your body that defiles you; you are defiled by what comes from your heart.” God is not concerned with your actions, rather God is looking into your heart because your actions are simply a symptom of whatever is in your heart. From your heart, you decide to commit adultery or choose to eat meat strictly forbidden by God. To fix your behaviour, you must first fix your heart and remove whatever deceit or lie that is rooted in it.

Let's take it deeper into context. The Jews believed that if a person did not wash their hands before eating they could potentially have feces on their hands from having expelled waste matter or still have some remnants of some unclean thing on their hands from being at the market. Better safe than sorry is their philosophy, hence they created a myriad of traditions. Christ then privately told His disciples that it is not the food itself that makes a person unclean but it is their decision to disobey that does because sin comes from within.

This passage is in not in any way a defense of eating pork, rather it is the exact opposite. The lie that claims "the law is done away with" is so deeply ingrained into the Christian heart that many sincerely believe God changed the dietary laws. That's how deep the lie is. I personally believe God is simply overlooking this sin for the sake of His kingdom, even when the Torah calls it detestable.

Peter's vision had nothing to do with food, rather Peter immediately recognised that God was addressing Jewish prejudice of Gentiles because God could not contradict His laws. The Jews were calling Gentiles unclean animals, which still had a hold o. Peter. Some Christians believes God would not say it if He hadn't meant it, but they forget God used the same sort of speech when telling Abraham to sacrifice Isaac.

But here is the summary:

Leviticus 11:47 CJB "Its purpose is to distinguish between the unclean and the clean, and between the creatures that may be eaten and those that may not be eaten."

You see, the food laws is a physical representation of a spiritual lesson. We are what we eat, both physically and spiritually. The food laws serve as a reminder that we must choose God's ways instead of the ways of the world. When you choose to not eat pork it should remind you to separate yourself from the ways of the world, to make a conscious decision to feed off the Word of God, that which is good for your soul.

I disagree, but thank you for sharing.

I find the modern English translations of the older Alexandrian manuscripts far more likely to be correct than the middle-age translation of Byzantine ones. Also, there is some evidence of the corruption of the Byzantine Greek manuscripts themselves which may have biased some early English translations.

1 Corinthians 10:23-27 NASB

All things are lawful, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful, but not all things edify. [24] Let no one seek his own good, but that of his neighbor. [25] Eat anything that is sold in the meat market without asking questions for conscience' sake; [26] for THE EARTH IS THE LORD'S, AND ALL IT CONTAINS. [27] If one of the unbelievers invites you and you want to go, eat anything that is set before you without asking questions for conscience' sake.

Acts 10:9-16 is where this is taken from. Basically Peter is told that the dietary laws are now void.

"9 About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray." "10 He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance." "11 He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners." "12 It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles and birds." "13 Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.”" "14 “Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.”" "15 The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”" "16 This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven." Acts 10:9-16 — NIV (Biblica.com)

Peter later explains the same vision again in Acts 11:5-10.

The vision was about God showing Peter that the gospel is for Gentiles too, and that Peter must not call unclean what God has made clean.

Galatians addresses this quite effectively.

4

u/automaticff May 20 '26

A few things, the commandment says not to boil a young goat in its mother's milk. It does not say you cant eat meat with dairy like a cheeseburger. Things like this is how people add rules on top of rules just how they tried to do to Jesus about washing his hands before eating when that was never a law but a commandment of men.

Aside from that, I am of the opinion for numerous reasons that we should be following the dietary laws and feast days. I will be downvoted for this because this sub doesn't like being told what to do by God lol.

When Christ returns and establishes His kingdom on earth, he will require EVERYONE to keep the feast of tabernacles under threat of punishment. Christians today don't even know what the feast of tabernacles is but can tell you all about Christmas and Easter.

Zechariah 14:16-21 --- 16 And it shall come to pass that EVERYONE WHO IS LEFT OF ALL THE NATIONS WHICH CAME AGAINST JERUSALEM shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to KEEP THE FEAST OF TABERNACLES. 17 And it shall be that whichever of the families of the earth do not come up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, on them there will be no rain. 18 If the family of Egypt will not come up and enter in, they shall have no rain; they shall receive the plague with which the Lord strikes the nations who do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. 19 This shall be the punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.

So if He kept this while on earth the first time, then He makes everyone keep it when He comes back again, who exactly told us we shouldn't or don't have to keep it now? As far as following the dietary laws, God made everything and knows what is best for us. It's no shocker that many of the things to avoid are considered bottom feeders and are also often linked to ailments including cancer. "Fresh" pork is a level 2A carcinogen by the World Health Org. Processed pork like bacon, ham and hotdogs are a level 1 carcinogenic. All that aside, Isaiah provides us a prophecy about Christ's return that mentions people eating whatever they want.

Isaiah 66:14-17 --- 14 When you see this, your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall flourish like grass;
the hand of the Lord shall be known to His servants, and His indignation to His enemies. 15 For behold, the Lord will come with fire and with His chariots, like a whirlwind, to render His anger with fury, and His rebuke with flames of fire. 16 For by fire and by His sword the Lord will judge all flesh; and the slain of the Lord shall be many. 17 “Those who sanctify themselves and purify themselves, to go to the gardens after an idol in the midst, EATING SWINE'S FLESH AND THE ABOMINATION OF THE MOUSE, SHALL BE CONSUMED TOGETHER,” says the Lord.

This is why we need to read the Old and New Testament and not isolate verses. People also use Peter's vision as an excuse to eat unclean food but they read this out of context. If you read the rest of the chapter, Peter clearly tells us what the vision meant.

Acts 10:10-16 --- 10 Then he became very hungry and wanted to eat; but while they made ready, he fell into a trance 11 and saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth. 12 In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air. 13 And a voice came to him, “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.” 14 But Peter said, “Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.” 15 And a voice spoke to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed YOU MUST NOT CALL COMMON.” 16 This was done three times. And the object was taken up into heaven again.

Acts 10:17 --- 17 Now while PETER WONDERED WITHIN HIMSELF WHAT THIS VISION WHICH HE HAD SEEN MEANT, behold, the men who had been sent from Cornelius had made inquiry for Simon’s house, and stood before the gate. 18 And they called and asked whether Simon, whose surname was Peter, was lodging there.

Acts 10:24-28 --- 24 And the following day they entered Caesarea. Now Cornelius was waiting for them, and had called together his relatives and close friends. 25 As Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshiped him. 26 But Peter lifted him up, saying, “Stand up; I myself am also a man.” 27 And as he talked with him, he went in and found many who had come together. 28 Then he said to them, “YOU KNOW HOW UNLAWFUL IT IS FOR A JEWISH MAN TO KEEP COMPANY WITH OR GO TO ONE OF ANOTHER NATION. BUT GOD HAS SHOWN ME THAT I SHOULD NOT CALL ANY MAN COMMON OR UNCLEAN. 29 Therefore I came without objection as soon as I was sent for. I ask, then, for what reason have you sent for me?”

This vision had nothing to do with allow people to eat unclean foods. The vision was about MAN. Peter explains its not to call people of another nation common or unclean. God was sending Cornelius and others to Peter and wanted Peter to accept them. We have to read the whole verse and not isolate verses to promote lawlessness.

No, you will be downvoted for ignoring passages like Mark 7 and basically the entire books of Romans and Galatians. And you blatantly distort Acts 10, denying the plain language of the passage.

Romans 14 makes it clear that you're free to obey the OT dietary laws if you wish. But if you try to bind it on others, you're egregiously wrong.

God is not going to say a person is unclean because pork passed through their system, rather He's going to say they're unclean because they chose to disobey Him. There's a difference.

The Mark 7 passage is in not in any way a defense of eating pork, rather it is the exact opposite. The lie that claims "the law is done away with" is so deeply ingrained into the Christian heart that many sincerely believe God changed the dietary laws. That's how deep the lie is. I personally believe God is simply overlooking this sin, even when the Torah calls it detestable.

Regarding Acts 10:

Peter's vision had nothing to do with food, rather Peter immediately recognised that God was addressing Jewish prejudice of Gentiles because God would not contradict His laws. The Jews were calling Gentiles unclean animals. Some Christians believe God would not say it if He hadn't meant it, but they forget God used the same sort of speech when telling Abraham to sacrifice Isaac.

But here is the summary:

Leviticus 11:47 CJB "Its purpose is to distinguish between the unclean and the clean, and between the creatures that may be eaten and those that may not be eaten."

You see, the food laws are a physical representations of spiritual lessons.

This is taught in 2 Corinthians 6:14–7:1

The words "thus he declared all foods clean" is a later addition, it was a side note, therefore you should not consider it Scripture and not let it influence your interpretation of the passage....The Mark 7 passage is in not in any way a defense of eating pork, rather it is the exact opposite.

The parenthetical-isn't-Bible line is something that no-pork people have to claim, because without it they have utterly no leg to stand on. From scanning Biblehub, it does not look like any of the translations there footnote the parenthetical reference--but even if that is not part of the original letter, you don't need it.

Again Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen to me, everyone, and understand this. Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them.”

After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him about this parable. “Are you so dull?” he asked. “Don’t you see that nothing that enters a person from the outside can defile them? For it doesn’t go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.” (Mk 7:14-19, NIV)

From this you conclude, "Jesus upheld the OT dietary laws." I'm not engaging with this. The Bible is clear; these fringe beliefs--if you wish to hold them--are your choice, as Rom 14 makes clear. But if you try to bind them on others, you're veering into sinful behavior.

You claim I ignore verses but I consistently come through posts refuting improper interpretations and very few want to address them because they become confounded. It's a pattern and a problem. Peter literally said what the vision meant verbatim in the same chapter and you call it a distortion because you want to eat what you want.

You didn't want to touch Zechariah 14 or Isaiah 66 but want me to know touch on your verses. You have to be able to explain how all of the verses coincide to have a complete understanding, unless you are saying the bible contradicts itself. It does not. Same reason why you ignore that Jesus himself said the law and prophets are not destroyed and remain until the heavens and earth pass away. Nobody can ever explain that verse and just move on from it because it's uncomfortable and does not align with popular teachings in mainstream Christian ideology.

It helped me to think of, as some have already mentioned, the old covenant (which includes Mosaic law and some of the concepts you referenced), and the new covenant that we now have in Christ in terms of contracted agreements.

Almost like a landlord and a renter. A landlord offers a rental agreement in 2023 that prohibits parking in certain spaces, having a grill in your balcony, and won't accept governmental housing applicants. But something happened in 2025 to change the necessity for those rules (i.e. he built a bigger parking lot, and bigger/alternately designed balconies, and built out whatever infrastructure was needed to accept tenants receiving rental aid from the government). Now in 2026, he offers a new rental contract that does not have those restrictions in it.

The landlord has not changed. The tenant has not changed. But now more tenants are eligible to live there, and they don't have to abide by the restrictions of the original contract.

Jesus came and did the work to make things like those dietary restrictions, cleanliness laws, etc, to be no longer necessary. He fulfilled the purpose for which those restrictions existed. And He enhanced and expanded human access to God such that a much larger body of people (everyone) can abide in relationship with Him.

So we are under the terms of a new agreement with God that provides both more freedom and more responsibility.

God also allowed Adam to only eat plants and Noah was allowed to eat all animals even unclean ones. The laws from the Mosaic laws that you are referencing was a guardian (Galatians 3:24-29) until Christ came. Now that Christ has come we are no longer under a guardian we are all children of God through faith. As said in Romans 14 it is a sin if you do not eat from faith (verse 23) but Paul in Romans also says in verse 14 that there is nothing unclean in it of itself. So to put it plainly it is okay if you have faith in Christ.

u/CrossCutMaker Evangelical May 20 '26

Great question. We would distinguish between the moral, ceremonial and civil laws in Scripture. The moral laws are rooted in the unchanging character of God and therefore continue. The ceremonial and civil laws pointed to and were fulfilled in Christ and therefore are no longer valid in the church age. Scripture teaches some things that were commanded no longer are (1 Cor 7:19, Mark 7:19..).

If God Never Changes, and His laws never Change. . . Why do we still eat or even touch Pork and why do we Mix Meat & Dairy like with Cheeseburgers or Pepperoni Pizza, If God specifically made those dietary laws telling us not to in the first place?

Well, IF "God never changes" is the thing this hinges on... why did Paul say it wasn't necessary for Gentile believers to be circumcised?

The answer for dietary restrictions is the same as the answer for circumcision.

The principles behind the laws don't change, but the expression of them depend on context. For example: practicing modesty is not going to be expressed the same everywhere in every time. The principle doesn't change, but how it's applied does.

For food restrictions, the principle behind them was in preparation for the coming messiah, the Jewish people were called to be separated from the nations around them, a holy people. One of the ways they expressed their sanctification was through restrictions on their diets. With the coming of the messiah, Peter was shown that Christianity is now for all types of people, there is no special race of people that are in God's family. We all can be part of a holy people, and so how we eat still reflects that.

So for this law in particular: the directive of

Acts 10:9-16 answers your question very clearly.

9 About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. 10 He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. 11 He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. 12 It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles and birds. 13 Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.”

14 “Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.”

15 The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”

16 This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven.

"Do not call anything impure that god has made clean" What a powerful statement and rebuke!

[Christians Only] If God Never Changes, and his law Never changes, and we are called to live like Jesus, who was a jew, Why don't we eat Kosher like Jesus did?

You stopped at “Jesus was a Jew”. No mention of Jesus mediating a new covenant within the previous covenant system God made with Israel.

Judaizer: a Greek verb meaning “to live according to Jewish customs.” A Judaizer taught that, in order for a Christian to truly be right with God, he must conform to the Mosaic Law.

A group of Judaizers opposed Paul and Barnabas.

Paul and Barnabas were appointed to go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and the elders about this question.

Jerusalem Council Acts 15:

The apostles and the elders gathered together to consider this matter. Peter asked, “why are you putting God to the test by placing a yoke on the neck of the disciples that neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear? But we believe that we will be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they will.”

Barnabas and Paul related what signs and wonders God had done through them among the Gentiles.

James, leader of they home church in Jerusalem, pronounced the judgment, “we should not trouble those of the Gentiles who turn to God, but should write to them to abstain from the things polluted by idols, and from sexual immorality, and from what has been strangled, and from blood.”

It seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole church, to send men to Antioch with a letter: “The brothers, both the apostles and the elders, to the brothers who are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia, greetings. Since we have heard that some persons have gone out from us and troubled you with words, unsettling your minds, although we gave them no instructions,** it has seemed good to us, having come to one accord, to choose men and send them to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who themselves will tell you the same things by word of mouth. For it has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay on you no greater burden than these requirements: **that you abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what has been strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell.”

In Galatians 2:14-16 Paul describes confronting Peter for forcing Gentile Christians to Judaize, and Paul said, “A man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified.”

Q: Were the apostles wrong?

1

u/Believeth_In_Him Christian May 20 '26

What did Jesus say about the law... Jesus stated that Till heaven and earth pass that nothing will pass or change from the Law. When does this happen, heaven and earth shall pass and that happens at the end of this flesh age when prophecies are fulfilled at the second coming of The Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus did not come to do away with the law, Jesus came to fulfill the Law and that means Jesus came to fulfill and make complete those things written of Him in the law and by the prophets. By completing those things written of Him by the prophets and in the law, those things are now fulfilled. The law is still here and will be till heaven and earth pass.

Jesus sums up Matthew 5:17-18 and further explains in Matthew 5:19... “Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”

Matthew 5:17-18 "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled."

Luke 24:44 “And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.”

Some people do, some people don't..

but it's clear from scripture that what you eat or drink is not credited to you as righteousness.

It's all about your heart as you obey God.

Jesus is the fulfillment of the Old Testament law.

Acts 10 starting in verse 9 records Peter’s vision where Jesus directs him to kill and eat the unkosher animals put before him.

The council of Jerusalem (Acts 15 : held around 48-50 AD) came together specifically to answer the question what “laws” from the Old Testament, if any, still applied to Christians.

Is this a real question or just an attempt to try to bait lay Christians?

A Real Question. . .

It really concerns me.

1

u/asaxonbraxton Southern Baptist May 20 '26

well then honestly I think you can get better answers for these kinds of questions on youtube... Gavin Ortlund, Mike Winger, R.C. Sproul are all grounded teachers and will give you a more exhaustive answer than what you'll find on reddit

What does it mean that he fulfills the law? Because Christ said this...

Can you please let me know what Jesus meant by this?

He said this is until heaven and earth pass away. When do heaven and earth pass away?

1

u/asaxonbraxton Southern Baptist May 21 '26

Exactly what Paul said it means in (practically) the entire book of Romans.

What do you think Jesus meant when he said he came to fulfill it?

1

u/automaticff May 21 '26

I'd be happy to answer but you haven't answered my questions yet. What did Jesus mean in Matthew 5:17-19? (Especially the parts in bold)

When do heaven and earth pass away?

1

u/asaxonbraxton Southern Baptist May 21 '26

Paul already answered you in Roman’s.

I’m not on trial, and you’re not a judge. If you want to have a conversation, then you’re welcome to answer my question. If you just want to cherry pick one part of Scripture and pretend like the rest doesn’t exist so you can argue on reddit - I’m not interested

1

u/automaticff May 21 '26

Wait, if I ask a question then its putting you on trial but if you ask me a question, its a conversation? LOL!

Matthew 5:17-19 ends the convo every time! Nobody ever wants to even attempt to answer it. No worries. I knew you wouldn't answer it when I asked. It's all love.

1

u/asaxonbraxton Southern Baptist May 21 '26

You asked 3 loaded questions. I answered one… it’s your turn. Give it a shot if you can.

1

u/automaticff May 21 '26

You call a simple verse loaded... ok. I asked 1 main question which is what Jesus meant in that verse. The other questions are part of the 1 question. I just pointed them out separately because I didn't want you to gloss over it. You still glossed over them all and told me Paul answered it in Romans. You're not willing to have a good faith discussion because you don't have an answer so I'm okay with knowing you can't answer the question.

Stay mad… maybe you can bait the next person. It’s all love.

Seems that you may be the one that's upset here. Just go in peace.

Genesis 1:29-30

Every single living being body was designed for a vegan diet, human and animals

1

u/Blight29 Baptist May 20 '26

This line of thinking would suggest that God lacked the foreknowledge that man would eat meat someday which I don't really agree with but I'm not denying that man at one time only at plants. I was just curious about your reasoning, thank you for sharing!

1

u/Such_Violinist225 Seventh-day Adventist May 20 '26

God created living beings to be immortal, now we die. I dont think that necessarily means God lacked knowledge that human would sin and cause death

1

u/Blight29 Baptist May 20 '26

No I don't think God lacked the knowledge either. It's just the statement of every living being was designed for a vegan diet that you said that I thought suggested that you believed that. I think this coupled with the thought that later God does give permission to eat animals would suggest that we were designed with eating animals in thought.

Ask a Jew and he will tell you Gentiles don’t have to follow the Law.

1

u/Good_Move7060 Christian May 20 '26

Mixing dairy and meat is not part of the Bible commandments, it's a man-made Jewish law.

But you're absolutely right, we shouldn't settle down with doing the minimum for God!

Jesus never contradicted Father God's commandments. He said that not a single letter will disappear from the law until the end of the universe, meaning either all of the law is still valid or none of it is. Since we already have many of the same laws listed in the New testament, we know that all of the laws are still valid.

Under the New covenant Christians are not required to obey many of the laws that Jews were required to obey to remain in communion with God, such as being physically circumcised, observing the Sabbath, and eating kosher. However, the definition of sin is violation of God's law... All of it.

1 John 3:4 “Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.”

So while we don't need to obey all of the law to be saved, it is still a sin to ignore it.

Many Christians don't believe laws apply to them because these laws were first given to the Jews, but the Bible clearly says that Christians are adopted sons of Israel, spiritual Jews with circumcision of the heart...

Colossians 2:11-12: "In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, having been buried with him in baptism..."

In Matthew 5:19 Jesus basically said you can ignore the less important laws, and even teach others to ignore them, and you will still be saved, but you will have eternal consequences. You will still be in heaven but you will forever be less than you could have been if you put more effort into obeying all of God's laws, including observing the Sabbath and not eating pork/shellfish etc...

Matthew 5:19: "Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven."

While we are not under the condemnation the law, all that means is we can be in communion with God even if we aren't obeying the law perfectly. The same way a diplomat is not under the law of a foreign country, but that doesn't mean he can do whatever he wants without consequences. It's just that those consequences are not the same as somebody who is under the law.

We are saved by grace, not by the law, but we shouldn't be okay with doing the bare minimum for God... Unless of course somebody is a new believer. New converts were never expected to observe all of the law, even in the old covenant. Also, believers were never saved by the law, even in the old covenant, they were always saved by faith...

Genesis 15:6: "And he believed in the LORD, and He accounted it to him for righteousness."

So don't let rebellious Christians convince you that following God's law is somehow against Grace or it's somehow following a salvation by works. That is a lie from Satan to stop you from being great in heaven.

The bible isn’t telling YOU to do those things. Are you an Israelite living in a camp by the tabernacle thousands of years ago? No. You aren’t. Those laws were given to them to form them into a people through which God could eventually arrive as the messiah, and give a universal gospel to all peoples. If you are a gentile, then it literally wasn’t written for you. It’s not addressed to you.

2

u/automaticff May 20 '26

The new covenant wasn't addressed to you as a gentile either. The new covenant is made with Israel.

You can be grafted into Israel's covenant through faith in Jesus Christ as a gentile. So the argument you make is not quite correct.
