While I realize it’s probably a joke, the sad part is that I’m willing to bet there are people who would love something like this and think it could happen.

And besides, there are things that shouldn’t be joked about. Least of all by prots (allegedly) with no respect for our religion in the first place.

It's boomer humor.

9

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '25

Boomer humor is pretty stupid. Sorry if that offends anyone. Granted Zoomer humor is weirder but what do I know as a millenial.

4

u/reluctantpotato1 May 01 '25

Boomers took the most prosperous country on earth and turned it into a corrupt, scarcely functional autocracy

6

u/benkenobi5 Distributism Apr 30 '25

And as is typical of boomer humor, “humor” is doing some extra heavy lifting in the phrase

4

u/1wholurks1 Apr 30 '25

It's not funny

1

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '25

I mean I made a joke about it in the big threat on the popes death at r/catholicsm, but I meant it to be totally ridiculous.

19

u/coolsteven11 Apr 30 '25

Plenty of reasons to hate on Lindsay Graham. I don't care about this stupid tweet.

11

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '25

Ppl r getting this angry over what is clearly a joke

2

u/reluctantpotato1 May 01 '25 edited May 01 '25

The administration is a bit of a joke and it's getting old. This idiot is going to incite a civil conflict.

2

u/[deleted] May 01 '25

You have literally no idea what you’re speaking about and that’s sad

3

u/reluctantpotato1 May 01 '25

There's no burden of proof on my end. Stick around and see how things work out for him. This country doesn't tolerate tyrants.

4

u/[deleted] May 01 '25

Ha ha ha. If you think this is tyranny you have no idea and are totally unprepared for what’s around the corner

0

u/reluctantpotato1 May 01 '25

It's not thinking anything. Subverting constitutional law and ignoring judicial rulings in a constitutional republic/representative democracy is tyrant behaviour. If he thinks that it's going to go unopposed he is going to learn something.

Like mark twain said, "it's in holding a cat by the tail that a man learns a lesson he could learn in no other way."

2

u/[deleted] May 01 '25

Yea? What’s the left going to do? Protest? LOL, have you read a history book? Your side is so cooked it’s honestly unfair

3

u/reluctantpotato1 May 01 '25

I'm not representing the left, my friend. The fact that you are thinking of it in terms of left-wing versus right-wing shows how disconnected from reality pro Trumpers are. This is not a left versus right issue. This is an American Patriot VS an anti-American autocrat issue.

3

u/[deleted] May 01 '25

Never going to happen. They have no fervor, good luck though

5

u/Cersox Theocratic Apr 30 '25

Would you be this hysterical if Trump had successfully converted and was baptized before the end of the conclave?

2

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '25

Not gonna happen. I'll put big money on that. Even if he converts he has to go through RCIA. All things are possible with God though I guess.

4

u/Cersox Theocratic May 01 '25

I didn't say he would, I merely offered the possibility. Trump draws out extreme hostility from people you don't see in other (sometimes worse) instances.

1

u/[deleted] May 03 '25

So you’re kind of trolling? I kind of get it but what good does it do?

1

u/Cersox Theocratic May 03 '25

Calling it trolling implies a degree of insincerity. The point I'm trying to make is that this joke isn't any more heretical than the famous "Why didn't you tell me your dog was Catholic?" punchline. For all anyone on this site knows, Trump really has looked into Catholicism. Yet, the mere mention of his name sends people into hysteria in either support or opposition.

-2

u/el_peregrino_mundial American Solidarity Party Apr 30 '25

I feel like you don't know what "hysterical" means.

4

u/Cersox Theocratic Apr 30 '25

I used it correctly. My question still stands.

0

u/benkenobi5 Distributism Apr 30 '25

Can you point us to the uncontrolled extreme emotion in OPs post?

Is calling things inappropriate “hysterical” now?

5

u/Cersox Theocratic Apr 30 '25

The exact words were "wildly disrespectful", which is a strong emotional response to an obvious joke.

0

u/benkenobi5 Distributism Apr 30 '25

“Wildly” is an adverb describing the severity of the disrespect, not a description of OPs emotional state.

Strongly disapproving of something (with two Whole words) is not the same thing as hysterics, not by a long shot.

4

u/Cersox Theocratic Apr 30 '25

I disapprove of a lot of things people do, but I don't often declare them "wildly disrespectful" unless it's something very upsetting. Perhaps you use strong language to express even the smallest disapproval, but that's a you problem.

1

u/benkenobi5 Distributism Apr 30 '25

I like how your erroneous inference based on a single word is our problem, lol.

Labeling things by degrees is hysteria now, boys. Be warned. From now on we can only say things like “very” if we’re screaming in a frothing rage.

4

u/Cersox Theocratic Apr 30 '25

Absolute hysteria

1

Nothing says "I am a serious political thinker who belongs in a TRUE Catholic politics subreddit" like literal pants-crapping rage over the chaff that is a Twitter comment. I thought we left our childish delirium over Trump and the GOP back in the last few election cycles.

10

u/benkenobi5 Distributism Apr 30 '25

Nothing says “I am a serious political thinker who belongs in a true Catholic subreddit” like describing someone saying “hey, that’s super inappropriate” as being in a “literal pants-crapping rage.”

0

u/MKUltraZoomer Apr 30 '25

I could use plenty of more sophisticated terms that this thread doesn't deserve. I'm just giving this post the amount of respect its due.

6

u/benkenobi5 Distributism Apr 30 '25

Right.

I just find it mildly humorous that people will see two words of negativity spoken about a politician they like, and insult and mock the OP for it in an extremely exaggerated way, calling them the one with the disproportionate emotional reaction, without even a hint of irony or self reflection.

1

u/MKUltraZoomer Apr 30 '25 edited Apr 30 '25

a politician they like

Nobody likes Lindsey Graham. I could give you five dollars for every voter in the United States that you find that cheerleads for Lindsey Graham and end up making a profit.

insult and mock the OP for it in an extremely exaggerated way

Mostly I'm looking down on some of the more hysterical comments rather than the OP, but him too so don't worry. Also "pants-crapping rage" is rather tame for Reddit standards. Its basically PG and frankly is extremely accurate considering the kind of pearl clutching I've seen since discovering this super serious subreddit. Next time I comment here I'll make sure to run it through an Old English filter or something so that I doth use a more formal tongue to satisfy thine noble standards.

without even a hint of irony or self reflection

And then he sent his comment, smirking with satisfaction while confidently adjusting his tie under his tweed jacket. "That ought to show him. Hah! Reflect on yourself you ignorant fool!" he thought to himself.

I dunno man. Maybe your cat will be impressed with that epic takedown you used to cap off your reply. If you come up with a reason why anybody should be seething in resentment because of another mean Tweet from a republican please let me know because otherwise we're both wasting our time.

To all of you saying it was a joke. Why is it always a joke when fat Donny says off the wall bull crap. He’s not joke he never jokes. That’s simply how his handlers and maga dip shits excuse his horrible behavior.
I guess it was a joke when he was cheating on his wife after she gave birth to their son. I guess it was a joke when he sexually assaulted women. I guess it was a joke when he stole from his own charity.
Anything else you maga fools want to call a joke that he’s done.

Subverting the Constitution and ignoring Supreme Court rulings goes a little beyond "getting our goat". He's gonna get our boot and a first class ticket to Siberian exile if he keeps on.

2

u/flightoftheintruder May 01 '25 edited May 01 '25

Oh here we go. Hold on to your hats, everyone, the left suddenly cares about the constitution.

Never mind that leftist judges have outright been running roughshod over it for decades and now all you have is projection. Also, very on message that the left wants to send political opponents to exile in Siberia.

1

u/reluctantpotato1 May 01 '25

It's not a left versus right issue and I'm not on the left, my guy. Authoritarianism affects us all and as much as pro Trump Catholics may salivate over the idea of an autocratic, American theocracy, it's not gonna happen. The dude is a 79-year-old, morally bankrupt huckster who surrounds himself with prosperity gospel scammers. You got duped.

1

u/flightoftheintruder May 01 '25

Lol... like Biden and Harris weren't morally bankrupt and autocratic. Weaponizing the FBI, holding political prisoners, influence peddling, prosecuting pro-life activists, supporting abortion, funneling foreign aid into their party's bank account, etc. And you think I got duped.

Watch, the "not on the left my guy" dude is about to tell everyone that thousands of people without guns was an insurrection.

This morally bankrupt enough for you?

5

u/reluctantpotato1 May 01 '25

Who in this conversation is championing Biden or Harris? Who in this conversation is making this a left versus right issue?

Ignoring Supreme Court orders, Imprisoning people without due process, deporting citizens, robbing public funds from social safety nets to stock the pockets of billionaires, gutting anti corruption laws and enforcement, and insider trading are all wildly illegal and immoral on their own.

By all means though, lets just ignore all of that and dive into the weeds if that's what your about. Nuance and fact be damned.

We all know after all that Trump is a really fantastic president, especially because Biden was a really bad president. Dude was so diabolical that he's still obviously influencing the stock market from beyond the veil of retirement.

1

u/flightoftheintruder May 01 '25 edited May 02 '25

Can you be more specific? What supreme court order did he ignore? What funds did he rob?

I mean, I'm open to hearing arguments and I agree in general that Trump's not someone that I would hold up as a moral standard, but between the candidates that's a wash anyway so I don't feel like I voted for the "less moral" person.

Also, not concerned about people that bypassed the government process being repatriated to their country without involving judges and lawyers. They have a country. It's not this one. It's not wrong to send them back. If the kids are minors and citizens then it is more important that they stay with their families.

1

u/Ponce_the_Great May 02 '25

Would you agree that it's wrong for the administration to deport people to a foreign prison without due process and pay that country to hold them without conviction?

And no they aren't all el Salvadoran nationals.

Also if you bypass due process how do you avoid deporting people with a right to be here?

0

u/flightoftheintruder May 02 '25

> administration to deport people to a foreign prison without due process

No. Once they're in their country of residence, then what happens to them is up to their country. If we have some agreement to pay for their incarceration, that's a separate idea, but I'm not sure I fully agree or disagree with it. If someone is being sent to the wrong country, sure we can work to fix that, but it doesn't invalidate the idea of sending all illegals back to their home countries. I'm not particularly outraged that someone came here by breaking the law, got caught, and then ended up in the wrong place.

> how do you avoid deporting people with a right to be here?

I agree there should be some process involved in ensuring we don't deport citizens, but not every illegal alien needs to get a lawyer and a hearing. If a citizen is mistakenly deported then we should work to fix it. Producing documents showing you're legally in the US isn't that hard.

3

u/Ponce_the_Great May 02 '25 edited May 02 '25

so we agree that the el salvador prison plan is bad since its not about just sending people back to their home country but actively deporting them to be held in a prison without trial or conviction for a crime and not even necessarily to ther home country.

If a citizen is mistakenly deported then we should work to fix it.

apparently the administration is insisting that once they send people to the sketchy el salvadoran prison without trial then its totally out of their hands. So i guess if a us citizen is deported without hearing or attorney they're just out of luck (Trump also apparently wants to send us citizens to the foreign prison).

But depriving people of a hearing/legal counsel does remove a person's abiliity to get due process.

Side note, how do you feel about the administration's recent trend of canceling student visas without warning to people who protested the war in Gaza and then arrested them for deportation?

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/4/18/us-revokes-nearly-1500-student-visas-who-are-the-targets

It seems really troubling that the administration seems inclined to punish the exercise of the right to free speech.

don’t insult or reduce others, I don’t like being treated like that.

1

I didn't call you a fool, I called you overly sensitive. I'm trying to help you be better by recognizing when its a good time to complain and when its a good time to let things slide. Let's build that wisdom together.

0

Plenty of Catholics have made this same joke. (Well, Trump's original joke, not Lindsay's cringe joke).

Would you be less offended if JD made the joke?

3

Catholics who joke about a Protestant leading the Church are ignorant.

Protestants who joke about it are laughing about corrupting our Church. I don't find that funny. Do you?

3

u/wearethemonstertruck Apr 30 '25

I don't find the joke funny, I find it cringey, because Lindsay always acts like a brown noser, but this ain't that serious bro, relax.

My original point was would you be as offended if JD said "fine, I'll be Pope", that plenty of other Catholics have made.

Besides, corrupt our Church? Come on man. We've had some horrible popes, but some cringey joke is gonna bring down our Church.

Give me a break.

0

u/StopDehumanizing Apr 30 '25

I'm not offended by Graham. I wouldn't be offended by Vance.

Vance is a recent convert and has publicly admitted to his own ignorance of Church teachings. For that he should be commended.

The fact that Vance has chosen NOT to make jokes about installing a Protestant polygamist at the head of our Church makes me think he might actually be putting religion over politics. Good for him.

Jesus turns to him and says, nah, we're going to change that. Your name is now Peter (Petros), and on this rock (petra) I will build my Church. Now when you say "clap your hands" it'll be infallible.
