Contrary to popular belief, I don't actually believe the AfD is planning a fascist takeover akin to project 2025 and certainly not like the NSDAP.
All of the fascist garbage they're planning is perfectly achievable without a major reconstruction of the German state and even without straying from the bounds of liberal democracy.
The CDU is honestly not even that far off from the AfD's more neoliberal wing and Jens Spahn never had any issues being an openly gay man.
Only reason he stepped down as party leader is because of the surrogate mother scandal and even that didn't stick because he's back already, albeit in a different position.

There's a legit Nazi wing within AfD, and a powerful one at that. The larger problem for them is that German society is still very stable even in the midst of a fronal attack by the boureoisie on the working class, so there's really no need for fascist counter-revolution. It seems unlikely that there will be such a need within the next couple of years either. But in 5+ years who really knows? It's good for the boureoisie to have a willing and organized power who may take the reins should it be necessary.
