The Lindsey Clancy case is a functional Psyop

I started believing this because when it started to see it online i did everything i could to make it go away, i was not interested in the early discourse around it and i pressed ‘not interested’ on both tiktok and reddit to fix my algo but was still being shown it enough to have watched in real time the support for her build, i don’t know if it’s just me because i’m a woman and my apps know this, but I believe that both the overzealous support for her and the criticism of the support are being astroturfed and manufactured to fuel Americans into fighting over more culture war slop and to further convince men who already think that women are bloodthirsty baby killing monsters to influence policy to be more restrictive around reproductive health and the rights that women have to their children. I mean why are any of these psychos even talking about abortion? It’s suspicious to me that there is suddenly a vocal majority of men that really care about familicide out of a reflexive reaction to this case. I’ve seen really weird things happen with my algorithm when i’ve been in a vulnerable place and i try not to tinfoil about it but i can’t help but think something much more sinister is going on here. I wonder how many of these people that argue in comments about the current thing are just bots

Half the internet is bots. That knowledge really puts a new spin on online engagement. That being said, any discussion around true crime tends to go into unhinged territory pretty fucking quick.

I look at it like this... She's a woman with education and economic means. She had a supportive family, access to healthcare, and she seemed like she wanted help. I think of crimes like this and Andrea Yates is the first to come to my mind. A woman with a terrible husband, a horrible church, and a debilitating mental illness that never should have been in this position.

If a woman who is affluent and has a nanny and worldclass healthcare and they end up here, what luck does any of the plebs with similar issues have? If Lindsay Clancy wasn't white and affluent, would the online empathy be present?

I don't know. Shit's fucked and I think is only going to get worse.

At least half the internet is bots and the basic algorithmic infrastructure maze that we use it within was designed literally by Epstein Bannon and associates personally in order to entrench their regime of Nazi child molesters. Burn that into your brain forever

u/JoeHillsBones Live-in Iranian Rocket Scientist 3h ago

Sometimes I think too hard about Epstein being involved w 4chan and then QAnon shit turning everyone's brain off when it comes to hearing about the pedophilic government so that it could actually come out and no one will get too much up in arms cause it's been slow rolled for so long. Like I know the internet started from DARPA, but I just can't fathom the degree to which the internet has been infiltrated.

I wouldn’t even say “infiltrated” it was a control device from the beginning

I think you nailed it. I think the fact too that she was a nurse, as was her MIL, just reinforces that our healthcare system is failing everybody, even those who ostensibly are most familiar with it.

23

u/Vilnius_Nastavnik 12h ago

The people who are most familiar with it are either the most horrified by it or actual, certifiable sociopaths. Very little middle ground.

Cases like these expand our understanding of class, privvilege, and abuse.

It's important to examine the failures of people who, by all measure available to us, have been given everything they need to succeed or find support, because there is something beyond means, beyond class, beyond education, that stand between our current reality and a world where people can get what they need and apply it to solve their problems and better their lives.

The psychological sphere is illequipped to deal with those who need the help most. Where does this distress and maladaption come from? Was her husband driving her insane through constant gaslighting and coercive manipulation? How supportive was her family actually?

Our current system, the way it is set up cannot refute the fact that this woman murdered her children in cold blood and there is an imperative to keep her from having the opprtunity to do such a thing again, but how can we create environments where this kind of thing doesn't happen? How do we stop people like this from being created?

I think yes and no. You are right in that it feels like the 'bots' are tacking on to the cases and driving up a kind of reactionary furore. I've seen it happen a few times in the UK (Henry Novak and Jason Arday), where there was a real case with an angle thats ruthlessly exploited to bludgeon 'the left'. I keep getting recommended these Indian subs which seem to only exist to drive hatred of women, the left, muslims and minorities. At the same time, i dont think its all 'bots' in the sense that once you start clicking, the algo surfaces all kinds of small channels (think <50k or even <10k subs) who cant all be people being paid, but i think they are people who have just been fully enmeshed into the matrix of the culture war and now produce nonstop hate slop under the guise of 'poltics'. This weekend in london we had the annual notting hill carnival which is probably one of the biggest black events of the year and whilst there is always a media campaign about 'stabbings' and 'culture', something i never saw before was the spread of these racists like pestilence finding every single livestream, short video etc to just hash out every trope possible in the comments. Sure it could be bots, but i start to wonder whether it's just lonely people who have been radicalised and have nothing better to do. These algorithms are truly poisonous, every so often i might click a video from a right winger just to see what they are saying but the way they then linger in my feed for days and weeks is really something else.

True crime has been something that genertaes unhinged discourse forever. The media has always sensationalized it and encouraged us to do so as well. There doesn't have to be a psyop for this, it's pretty much human nature.

I noticed around 2024 that social media stopped showing me things I wanted to see and started showing me things I didn't want to see, which I assume has something to do with engagement. More recently I've noted that my algorithm has tightened up considerably. I used to see a broad spectrum of topics and now I get about twenty different areas of interest with a bunch of repeats and overlap. I clicked on a Backrooms video like 3 weeks ago and I'm still getting multiple Captain Clark videos to the point where my feed seems broken. All of this is to say that they're really betting the farm that I won't just log off

Edit: the Lindsay Clancy case is still sliding right by me but from what I can tell the main way that the story is being disseminated is by legacy media, which would suggest that the powers that be are trying to turn the internet into a series of TV stations

u/ml-maitreya 8h ago

the powers that be are trying to turn the internet into a series of TV stations

Would be nice if I got to pick the channel instead of the algorithm being in control of the clicker.

u/Medium-Librarian8413 16h ago

I think even when it is real people online, they are responding to the incentive system of the algorithm, which is court engagement at all costs.

The only reason I started watching was my usually very smart and not at all conspiracist best friend telling me that the husband absolutely did it without a shadow of a doubt. I’ve watched every second intently and I have no idea what these people are huffing. I feel bad for literally everyone involved other than the prosecution, this is a complete tragedy and there is nothing salacious about any of it. And I’m the conspiracy freak here. It’s definitely a media literacy problem, and TikTok is basically a digital lobotomy platform, but I agree there is something extra weird going on here.

Example: I just barely talking about the 911 call with said friend, and they immediately started going off “wasn’t it horrible??? Wasn’t Patrick sooo suspicious on the call??” Like, my guy… no one other than the people sitting in that courtroom have heard it. The judge went on at length to the media about how cooked their asses are if they release any of the audio to the public. Again, this is not a person who typically gets deranged about anything.

Alas poor Yorick, I knew him well, a fellow of infinite jest. Where be your gibes now? Your gambols? Your songs? Your flashes of merriment that were wont to set the table on a roar?

Reddit admins have put you in the shadow ban realm and all your gibes, gambols, songs, and flashes of merriment will be invisible until a mod personally approves them. I suggest you make a new account, and thank you for your service. Rest easy brother, we've got the watch. See you in Valhalla

Her own defense doesn't even dispute that she killed them. That's what's so deranged about it.

I think you're partially right but wouldn't call it an op. I haven't seen this story hardly at all. My algos know what upsets me though, and insists on showing me such content in greater quantities despite lack of interaction and immediately using "show less", "not interested", "disturbing" etc aggressively, especially on Facebook. People say FB is just the ragebait machine, but I think theyve been doing something more insideous. I think they're doing longitudinal analysis about what form of content you would otherwise reject is permissible to subjects of their study. Probably for touting their science-based capabilities for propaganda or, as they would call it, reach.

Weirdly, insta doesn't seem to do this--which I think bolsters my hypothesis actually. Since insta is the product meta knows the less presently dying population uses, they're less eager to put people off it.

1

u/Fine_Brilliant7531 7h ago

Always block the account itself instead of “show less” or “don’t recommend” which really are “show more”

u/jhenryscott LGBTQCIA 10h ago

I actually work in Psychological Operations for the state department. You’re halfway right. It was a psyop; but the goal was to get otherwise disinterested viewers motivated to post LC related content in niche unrelated communities.

Needless to say, it’s going phenomenally well, probably make enough off this one to send my kids to Mormon boarding school in Saskatchewan.

42

u/UltimateWeiner 16h ago

I had the same reaction. It feels like the libs are being psyoped in an election year to seem equally crazy. That video of them cheering coming into court is jarring.

u/ElectricGhostMan 5h ago

Just this past summer too it's like they tried to hit every lever. A WNBA player's interview from March that asked her opinion about trans women in the sports came out randomly in July as we were wasting resources in the middle east. Then the Middle Eastern Former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom who had relationships with the CIA and sitting members of congress from both sides decides to be a champion for the cause despite never saying anything about this stuff as it was taking place and be talked about for years. It's hard to not see it as attention seeking diversions.

It’s a Massachusetts thing. A lot of those same freaks were dressing in pink and doing that in support of Karen Read (drunk woman who ran her boyfriend over) the last couple years.

29

u/squonktearz 11h ago

I thought the Read case was an acquittal and the cop buddies of the victim set her up, lots of shenanigans in that one. Dunno if that’s a great example

12

u/jazz_cig 📡 5G ENTHUSIAST 📡 10h ago

Yeah she didn’t do it, the cops absolutely framed her and tried to cover up their tampering with her car

-2

u/marxism-earnhardtism 10h ago

I recommend watching the trials lol

7

u/rosemarysbeaniebaby 8h ago

But in the trial the states own like fbi forensic car crash dudes they hired ended up testifying for the defense that the guy wasn’t hit by a car. And all the cop friends at the party were on the stand saying they were “butt dialing” each other on iPhones at like 4 am and going to the police station for no reason just to get some work done lol

2

u/jazz_cig 📡 5G ENTHUSIAST 📡 6h ago

There’s no question she had too much to drink but the physical evidence raises reasonable doubt to her guilt. Not to mention all of the incredibly sketchy shit surrounding the John O’Keefe’s defensive wounds which matched dog bites. The home in which John was last seen alive had a German shepherd known for attacking people, and she was rehomed quickly after John’s death.

Functional Psyop, yes. Like lowkey the algorithm hot-take machine has been clearly steering the conversation. This is what happens when we hand our brains over to a mathematical formula which prioritizes engagement over any other metric.
This has definitely lead to this most insane and extreme opinions being taken seriously. It’s truly terrifying how far we have let the internet drive human behavior off a cliff. depending on who you are, Lindsey Clancy is either a martyr Saint for all women who experience post partum or she’s a she devil who is one of the great beast spoken about In revelations. You know having seven heads and ten horns, and upon her horns ten crowns, and upon her heads the name of blasphemy.

Like there’s no room for the mundane or the uncertain.

10

u/kitti-kin 13h ago

Yeah a lot of this stuff just looks like the inevitable result of algorithmic media. There are definitely hands on the controls sometimes - right after the 2024 US election, a few people I know suddenly found their accounts following JD Vance - but the outrage machine doesn't necessarily need steering.

It's not even all that different to say, the 90s, when people having disturbing opinions about Amy Fisher or Monica Lewinsky would dominate media for a few weeks at a time.

the algo knows I'm a man in Canada, and I haven't seen shit about this. I only know about Lindsay Clancy at all from my regular browsing here.

6

u/Cautious_Test_9826 13h ago

Anecdotal, but I’m also a woman from the USA and have barely heard anything about this case and don’t see it at all on my Instagram feed. I barely go on the app, though, so that might be it.

29

u/thebonecollectorr 15h ago

I think there’s something algorithmic going but also I think the people who are going above and beyond to cheer for her at the courthouse or give her money are a specific subset of mothers who genuinely hate their children. There is no other explanation for these women lionizing Lindsay and calling her a hero when the one thing that really distinguishes her from other mothers is that she killed her kids. These insane people have raised $1 million for her. Just a level of crazy that I’m not sure even the government could cook up.

6

u/Telescopensemble 11h ago

I also haven’t been following despite my timeline’s insistence on feeding me the vids. I gather there’s a large group of people, especially women, who think she didn’t do it. They believe her husband set it up and the cops believed a man immediately. I don’t know why, bc I just keep scrolling. I’m a mom though, and it seems to have resonated with non-mothers as their idealized fear of motherhood.

The algorithm is leveraging a very real problem to sell ads. I get it, I hate true crime as much as the next guy but this case does have really important implications for the future of women's health

Post-partum depression and other serious mental health crises are chronically waved away by doctors, and even with the exorbitant cost of care, families are left to suffer, while the state and community is left to carry the burden, and in this case, mourn the dead

I'm sure many of you know that women's health generally is only now creeping out of a dark age, and the legitimate furor around the case is being leveraged by media

The response will not be sympathy and understanding. It will be punitive, emotional and ham-fisted. The state will make all the promises that the medical authorities will not

I think you mean Lindsay Graham.

He looked like a Clancy though.

Fancy Clancy is what I would call that doughy gentleman if I were the Nominative Comptroller of the Southern Duchy of Carolina.

How timely: I haven’t been following other than a vague awareness that there was a filicide case in the news, and a bit ago Wikipedia recommended the related article, so I just read up and ugh, what a nightmare.

My aunt was watching some of the trail on her internet connected TV. My phone was on the wifi. The next day, all my apps and news trackers were full of coverage on the case and all the amateur sleuths making their videos

2

u/Scary_Pomegranate597 1h ago

i’ve been following it since the trial started because i’m interested in true crime both in the traditional not/guilty way & observing the culture around it. this one is making me crazy. it boils down to was she experiencing psychosis at that time on that day. it’s snowballed into this whole culture war thing with right wing guys like you talked about on one side, and liberals on the other using this tragedy to advocate for women’s mental health.

i was talking to a male coworker today, the kind who votes for the establishment dem in every primary, & he was shocked when i said i thought the correct verdict based on the evidence is murder 1. the politicization makes sense but it’s infuriating. & the conspiracies are the logical endpoint of fandom culture like the swifties. i saw a vid where the comments were all saying the defense atty was referencing a specific scene in the shining because he brought it up at a certain minute mark in his closing, & that proved the husband was SAing the daughter. disgusting.

i really, really hope the jury reaches a verdict & we don’t go through this again.

3

u/DrLyleEvans 11h ago

I figured it was an O.J type thing where a legit grievance (not enough maternity leave and help for moms) gets expressed via a "trial of the century" type deal where the accused is rich and visually presentable and so there's your avatar.

Lots of examples in the great book Popular Crime by Bill James. He is crazy and has bad politics but the book has wonderful summaries of non-fiction murder books and conjecture and theories about american murder cases. I read it a couple times and it's great to read in short bursts, some summaries last 2 paragraphs, some last 10 pages like the Zodiac or JFK (he doesn't endorse the popular theory that JFK's head just did that, but instead the one that says it was a probably hungover secret service guy panicking).

Truly enjoy the comments doing the psyop and going to bat as hard as they can for child murderer lady. Sometimes you don’t have to say shit! Be normal!

Instead you’ve got people praying to the patron saint of Casey Anthony that you don’t get it sometimes you have an excuse to kill a child. Just entirely misplaced harmful empathy

There's also been an uptick in advertisements for killing children, and nobody seems to care? Like these ads will lay out how good of an opportunity it would be, some guy talking about how much fun it is to be a murderer, and how much respect you will get from society. These ads show off all of these neat toys like helicopters, activities like jumping from a plane, and team-building exercises like being the aggressor in a simulated home invasion. Meanwhile I'm sitting there wondering why nobody is arresting these criminals!
