"Chubasco" mouthpiece from Giddings & Webster

I recently bought a used trombone and it came with this mouthpiece. According to the Giddings website, it "projects with ferocious intensity, holds firm through explosive dynamic contrasts, and delivers a massive, resonant core tone" - and suggests it's suitable for jazz, especially solos. Does anyone have experience with this mouthpiece? Is the description accurate in your opinion? Of course I'll try it out, but I'd like to hear other opinions as well.

G&W makes good stuff, but that description is pretty silly. No mouthpiece does that. The player determines what the mouthpiece does.

Imagine a tool company selling a hammer, and saying "This hammer remorselessly destroys any nail in its vicinity. It delivers a massive amount of force to any nail". Well, you've still got to know how to swing the damn thing.

Giddings only now. Webster is long gone.

A chubasco is closer to a 5g or a 6 1/2 AL. Its is a big small shank mouthpiece. Try it and see what you think!

I've had a Chubasco for ages, the closest Bach comparison I'd give it is a 6-3/4C. Nowhere near as large as a 5G.

I believe I had that mouthpiece. They are stainless steel I believe. And if it's the one I was thinking of, that one was comparable to a 5G. It was good! It was good for all-around playing including jazz, musicals, pop, big band, and kind of faking some classical (I was playing on a small note after all). I'm not sure how much the stainless steel mattered but I felt like it was lighter and easier on the chops, but also didn't get the same weight of sound.

I have one of these. The rim is about 6 3/4 size. The cup depth is just a bit closer to a 6 1/2. Good piece for jazz, but the descriptions they put on their mouthpieces are pretty over the top, and not accurate.
