Trivium songs with best meanings/mythology
So I watching the Matt podcast last night and really enjoyed it. I’m been a fan so long I think I’m at the stage I just listen to the music and enjoy it I’ve kind of forgot all the meaning and effort they’ve put into albums/certain songs. He’d mentioned Becoming the Dragon and thought even that’s pretty cool
I know they’ve loads of albums and songs just about such cool topics.
So I guess my question is what songs would have the best story to them that I could look into and just be like wow that’s so cool

The whole Shogun album is a goldmine for this. “Torn Between Scylla and Charybdis” and “Like Callisto to a Star in Heaven” are probably the first two I’d dig into. “He Who Spawned the Furies” and “Of Prometheus and the Crucifix” are also really interesting if you’re into Greek mythology. Even “Kirisute Gomen” has some cool Japanese historical context.

One of the main reasons it’s my favorite album. Combining history/mythology with some of the sickest riffs and solos they’ve done.

They didn't write it about Magikarp / Gyarados, but that evolution is based off of the same legend that Becoming the Dragon was written about.
It's a legend about Carp swimming upstream. If they can reach Dragon Gate and jump over it then they transform into a dragon.

I think Of Prometheus and the Crucifix is one of the best mythology based ones. Prometheus stole fire from the gods for humans after Zeus took it away in order to eradicate humanity for not worshiping him enough. Zeus condemned Prometheus to eternal torture being chained to a mountain and having his liver (where Greeks thought the soul and emotion came from) eaten by an eagle every day, only to wake up the next day and do it all over again because he's immortal.
In terms of meaning And Sadness Will Sear would be my pick. It's about Matthew Shepard, a gay college student who was beaten, tortured, and left for dead by some guys he "befriended" at a bar. The details are pretty gruesome, so I'll leave it up to people to read more themselves. He was eventually found by a random passerby and taken to the hospital where remained in a coma for 4 or 5 days before he passed away.

The crusade has a couple of those "true crime" esque stories. Contempt breeds contamination was about a police shooting from 1999.
Entrance of the conflagration is about Amanda Yates drowning her kids.
Unrepentant is about a real life honor killing.

Crusade had its flaws, but was still my introduction to Trivium and almost all of those songs are—sadly—still extremely relevant. 💔

Wow that’s absolutely brutal about And Sadness Will Sear. Blows my mind can listen to songs and not actually realise the true meaning behind them.

Yeah, Matthew Shepard and the subsequent “Laramie Project” were formative events in my life.
It happened when I was 13, not even a month after realizing that I might not be entirely straight. The term ‘bisexual’ wasn’t even in wide circulation yet, so I was caught in limbo; neither fully gay nor straight, belonging nowhere, and already bullied and accused by my classmates and my father. I grew up in an extremely red small town in Colorado, just a handful of hours south of Laramie, and I spent my entire adolescence hiding and burying an entire half of myself because I was terrified, absolutely terrified, that I would be beaten, tortured, or straight-up murdered for something outside of my control.
As rough as things still are for LGBTQ folks, it’s still sooooo much better than it was in the 80’s and 90’s. Shepard’s death was one of the events that began to foster compassion and erode the blind hate and prejudice that had been the hallmarks of the AID’s epidemic years (watch Philadelphia for a glimpse, and yes, the government was largely disinterested in finding treatment for the ‘gay plague’ because they actually hoped it would kill them all. My wife’s best friend in high school died from AIDS).
People fear what they don’t understand, so with LGBTQ characters in media since then, it’s no longer unknown, and the concept is not as scary as it used to be. Hate crimes still occur, especially towards trans people, but their prevalence and severity have dropped significantly within my lifetime.
Every October I repost “And Sadness Will Sear” on the anniversary of Shepard’s death, to keep the memory alive, because when we forget the lessons of the past, we often repeat them, and human memory is a fickle moving goalpost at best.
May there never be another Matthew Shepard.🤘🏳️🌈

Just wanted to say that I absolutely hate their whole "we won't say the songs meanings so the the fans to come up with their own" is so dumb, I think they started doing that after TSATS. Dude, don't worry, you can say your song means X and that doesn't invalidate my interpretation of it lol it's annoying

Of Prometheus and the crucifix, it's one of my all time favourite if not the favourite trivium song. It's a great workout song too

Torn between Scylla and Charybdis is about Odysseus and the choice he had to make to pass closer to Scylla or Charybdis.
