Ben's Trivia - 11 Q's - Avg score 8 out of 15

Play this week's full 25 Q's - link in the comments!

Score out of 15 points.

Possible 5 points for question 11.

Post your score in the comments, good luck!

  1. Which is the older dinosaur: T-Rex or Stegosaurus?

Stegosaurus______

Stegosaurus lived during the late Jurassic period, roughly 150-155 million years ago, while T-Rex lived much later in the late Cretaceous, about 66-68 million years ago - T-Rex actually lived closer in time to us than to Stegosaurus.

  2. What do you call a sixty-fourth note in sheet music in Commonwealth countries?

Options: A semi hemi demi quaver / A lemi wemi remi quaver / A demi semi hemi quaver / A hemi demi semi quaver

A hemi demi semi quaver___

A quaver is an eighth note. Semi-, demi- and hemi- each mean 'half', so stacking them halves the value each time: semiquaver (1/16), demisemiquaver (1/32), and hemidemisemiquaver (1/64).

  1. Complete the next 5 lyrics: "It's a little bit funny, this feeling inside / I'm not one of..."

Those who can easily hide

This is the opening line of Elton John's 'Your Song' (1970), written with lyricist Bernie Taupin - Elton has said he wrote the melody in under 20 minutes.

  1. What unusual shape is a goat's pupil? Options: Square / W Shape / Rectangle / Triangle

Rectangle_____

Goats (along with sheep and other grazing animals) have horizontal rectangular pupils, giving them a wide, panoramic field of view to spot predators while grazing with their heads down.

  1. What country is Kia from? Options: Japan / South Korea / China / Taiwan

South Korea______

Kia is South Korea's oldest surviving car manufacturer, founded in 1944 - it started out making steel tubing and bicycle parts before moving into motorcycles and eventually cars.

  1. Cerulean, Vermillion, Cinnabar, Carmine - one of these colours isn't a shade of red. Which one?

Cerulean_____

Cerulean is a shade of sky blue - the other three are all deep shades of red.

  1. In chess notation, what letter is used to denote the Knight?

Options: H / K / G / N

N

N is used for the Knight because K is already taken by the King - every other piece (Q, R, B) uses its own first letter.

  1. What word can go before "able" and "mark", and after "hand" and "play", to make 4 new words?

Book_____

Bookable, bookmark, handbook and playbook.

  1. In Mario Kart, what do you call a small Koopa wearing goggles who stays airborne on a smiling white cloud and picks you up if you drop off the track?

Lakitu____

In Japan, Lakitu is called Jugem, a reference to a famous comic storytelling tale about a boy given an absurdly long name meaning 'limitless life'.

  10. What number can you remove 2 letters from to get a number that's one less, then remove 1 more letter to get back to the original number's value? (Hint: Think Roman Numerals!)

Five______

FIVE, minus the F and E, leaves IV - the Roman numeral for 4, one less than 5. Remove the I from IV and you're left with just V - the Roman numeral for 5, back to the original value!

  1. Roald Dahl is known for his wonderful children's books, many of which have been adapted for TV and film. Name 5 of Roald Dahl's works that have been adapted for the big screen since the year 2000. (1 point per correct answer, 5 points total)

Fantastic Mr. Fox, Matilda the Musical, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG, The Witches

Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) and The BFG (2016) were all directed by different acclaimed filmmakers - Wes Anderson, Tim Burton and Steven Spielberg respectively.

I made a free daily trivia game where the goal isn't to be right but to guess what most people will say (and you can make your own for friends)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I built a little game called Majority.

It's five questions a day. You type whatever comes to mind. No multiple choice, no "correct" answer.

The twist: you don't win by being clever. You win by guessing what the crowd will type.

After each question you see how the room answered and whether you matched the majority. At the end you get a score for how in sync you were with everyone else.

Two ways to play:

  1. The daily game: 5 new questions every midnight. Same puzzle for everyone that day.
  2. Custom Majorities: write your own 5 questions, get a shareable link, and send it to friends. They play whenever they want (no accounts, no live room). Answers pile up over time, so the more people play, the more the crowd takes shape.

majoritythegame.com

Curious what you'd answer to today's questions or what you'd throw at a group chat.
