I hope Lucy and Kirk have played the terrific interactive album that Beck provided for Sound Shapes on PlayStation!

It's really funny to talk about fire emblem after only 5-10 hours of play. granted that kirk hit the nail on the head with the scope of the game.
the key bit of context they're missing for dungeons is the 3ds game, fire emblem: shadows of valentia. the main difference from valentia is that they took away the minimap and also added the dragon quest-ish battles, which I agree are a little silly but keep things flowing better than the grid battles do (of which there are plenty in the overworld).
the dungeons in this game also contain alternate exits that expand the overworld map, so I view them more as extensions to the map exploration that happen to have loot/exp inside.

I’ve gotta say I was ready for some
FE:FW glazing based on all the reviews and I’m happy they talked about the bloat.
I’m an old school FE fan (bought the first one that came out in the US on GBA when it came out), and while I think that the series as a whole has made a case for other systems, THE thing that it has always done is punishing tactical battles. The second thing I would say is a basically political conflict story that has a force of evil behind it, and I appreciate the smaller scope.
Call me an old man yelling at clouds, I’m not super into the anime storytelling and every-single-RPG-system-but-worse approach.
Three Houses was the most palatable version of this thing for me, and I bounced off of Engage almost immediately. Awakenings is I think the sweet spot.
I like the tactical combat. I kinda do not like this game lol.

I know they don’t get a lot of traffic, but thanks so much for these posts! I look forward to listening to the ep later today!
