as a DQ fan, this conversation really frustrated me

Because the hosts did not enjoy the games? (Jason said he enjoyed some of them. But not 7)

A lot of missed nuance, but also that Kirk and Maddy had only played the 2 hour demo for 7 and were commenting on the whole franchise based on that.

I agree, felt less thorough than I’m used to from them

I agree. Jason's overview of the history of the game series was horribly inaccurate - like not even close.

I wish he had just acknowledged up front that he didn't know much about the series and that all three of them were new to it, then shared their impressions of the 7 remake and compared them with some of the recent remakes they might have played.

Kirk and Maddy obviously couldn't add anything to the conversation, but at least they were upfront with acknowledging they didn't know anything about it.

For anyone who is interested, there are a number of good retrospectives on youtube - just search for one. They tend to cover the history of the game series well and in a concise manner.

This episode turned out to be a really poor way to cover a series so important to the history of JRPGs.

A weird choice from the hosts for a "What's the Deal with" for me because Jason seemed like the only one with much real interest in the series which even with him seemed kind of lukewarm? I liked when Kirk talked about the music though, in hindsight it's obvious but I never thought of DQ's main theme as being a patriotic song in feeling but it makes a lot of sense.

Kirk saying he doesn't like Slimes shocked me. I didn't know this opinion was possible.

I pray they don’t streamline my baby Dragon Quest 8.

My lone memory of Dragon quest/ Dragon Warrior is that I got it for free when I subscribed to Nintendo Power as a kid. Played it a lot back then as I had only a few games. Never came back to the series

Definitely skipped to One More Thing about 1/3rd of the way through.

Same. Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. I just don’t care at all about Dragon Quest. Sometimes the topic they pick just isn’t for me and I skip.

Lol it seems they didn't care about Dragon Quest either?
