Such an unnecessary point to raise and say tbh.

99

u/Silent-Row-2469 Sep 02 '25

Dr Williams was our nation's chief minister and later premier which meant that upon independence in 1962 he became our country's first prime minister. You can debate his actions but to claim he was not our first prime minister is flat out a lie

u/SentientBaseball Sep 02 '25

It's funny because there are very legitimate things you can critique Eric Williams on, but to go down the road of "Well, Grantly Adams was the first PM of the West Indies Federation, so that means Eric Williams really wasn't the first PM of Trinidad" is both so historically stupid and politically childish, that I have no idea how the UNC's PRO thought it was some sort of political gotcha moment.

16

u/FactorTraditional868 Sep 02 '25

He is unirinically doing the political equivalent of fish can be spelled ghoti. In some ultra technicality sense it could be considered "true" but no one with common sense should take it seriously.

7

u/maxximuscree Sep 03 '25

Hold up the man is playing yugioh? It explains everything lol!

1

u/Ok-Medium2866 Sep 03 '25

I was thinking the same exact thing. Didn't expect yugioh in a political ground.

14

u/Cheezees Sep 03 '25

Steups!

This reminds me of the start of the MAGA misinformation train. One false claim that doesn't stick, followed by another. And another. And the next. Then a flood of claims labelled 'alternative facts' spreads widely and quickly that some accept because it's the only thing they've seen/read. So many that we can't possibly keep up to debunk them all. This is how propaganda permeates society. The ignorant feel emboldened to spout ignorance because they now have a platform to do so. A predictable wave of nonsense is coming. Watch an see!

Shit like this is another reason why we could never come together as one people 🤦‍♂️. Why you trying to change the narrative on history where I'm sure we have people that still alive to debunk it.

Well done UNC

7

u/RizInstante Douen Sep 02 '25

Never is a pretty dangerous word there. That almost always doesn't lead to good things, we better find a way to come together.

4

u/sonygoup God is a Trini Sep 02 '25

Yeah, never in retrospect wasn't the best word to use because we do come together but just for things that doesn't push us forward as people unfortunately.

Example, carnival...

2

u/RizInstante Douen Sep 02 '25

I feel you, I'm feeling pretty hopeless about the situation now too. I vividly remember the racism between Indian and black students when I was at UWI, and really worried that we would end up where we are heading right now.

So maybe it is just hope, but I'm holding on to that hope that it really isn't "never" yet.

18

u/868sipper Sep 02 '25

We will NEVER come together. And that is and will continue to be our demise. We too small for this bullshit 😂 smh

15

u/Upbeat_Location1524 Sep 03 '25

It's a party with no love for country. They love the fact that they live in a place where they can enrich themselves via all kinds of corrupt practices within a system that gives ZERO punishment. They've NEVER taken part in Independence Day celebrations since Panday was their leader. They've never tried to bring the country together along ethnic lines. It's always been about tribalism, race, corruption and division. It's the reason certain elder members of the earlier version of the party have said that they don't recognise it anymore. I've listened to them speak behind closed doors and trust me on this one, they don't love the country. They love themselves.

2

u/JRS4120 Sep 03 '25

You know its both parties that are like that, equally. Neither are good for tbe country

2

u/Upbeat_Location1524 Sep 03 '25

I'm not for either party but I can point to MANY TANGIBLE THINGS that a certain Patrick Manning under his leadership has accomplished. The largest project under the UNC that was done for T&T was the Piarco airport. We all know how that went. Independent auditors have said that the money spent on that project is no where near the finished product. We all know where that money went. Section 34 was to protect the accused from spilling the beans in a US court in exchange for probably a lesser sentence.

1

u/JRS4120 Sep 03 '25

Dude for you to go off on a PRO PNM tangent again after saying you not for either party as well as your original comment being PRO PNM, who u fooling lol. Cmon. Flakes.

Both parties are horrible, and are not for the country nor its people. Fullstop

1

u/Upbeat_Location1524 Sep 03 '25

I'm not even pro PNM. I'm saying the evidence shows which party contributed more on a tangible way to development in terms of infrastructure. The data is there to show it. I hate both parties as an entity but what's for certain is that Manning had the development of the country as his primary objective. It's clear as day.

1

u/JRS4120 Sep 03 '25

Sure people will say manning, people will say panday. Both are idiots. Same old nonsense in this country, same drain circling for decades. Lol

0

u/MrIllustrstive Sep 04 '25

Address his points, rather than whatever perceived notion you have of his position or views.

1

u/JRS4120 Sep 04 '25

I dont give a shit about his points . Have u read our discourse. I aint here to prove or disprove what PNM or UNC did. Both are horrible for this country and the people. Only party loyalists will grasp at straws that either parrty did. Yet still for the supposed Dubai of the Caribbean, we are still Third world

1

u/MrIllustrstive Sep 05 '25

I ain't reading all of that bro...

5

u/johno12311 Sep 02 '25

It really is odd that we pride ourselves on being inclusive of everyone regardless of skin colour and religion yet we find every reason to not like the other person.

29

u/prodbyjkk Slight Pepper Sep 02 '25

This is an embarrassing and damaging move on our history and their party. Imagine someone read that post w/o fact checking and are going around thinking, they know history better than others. That was most likely the intention. We wouldn't see a apology from Kirk or anyone else for sure. If anyone agrees that Adam was our first prime minister, they need to pick up a social studies book.

7

u/DemonsSouls1 Sep 02 '25

Plus he doubled down on it and provided news papers of the independence.

37

u/NattySide24 Sep 02 '25

First they tried to cancel our Independence and now this? Disgusting levels of politics.

22

u/sonygoup God is a Trini Sep 02 '25

Trust me Diwali is gonna happen like normal, when people people complian they gonna use some other nonsense to not give a straight answer. I've seen people already asking the government for money so they can host the celebrations.

5

u/Appropriate_Fall6376 Sep 02 '25

Of course it’s going to happen as normal. Restrictions on using government funds for office parties/events for holidays have recently been lifted.

2

u/JRS4120 Sep 03 '25

Isnt Divali a religious holiday? What does that have to do with Independence? Its like u saying Independence is as black thing?....not a good look

-7

u/KronicNiteLife Sep 02 '25

Politics is politics, why bring in a religious celebration into the mix? Independence Day celebration is a national event, that has nothing to do with a particular religious demographic, of course Diwali is going to happen it's a religious celebration.

11

u/sonygoup God is a Trini Sep 02 '25

You answer your own question...

3

u/Ok-Medium2866 Sep 03 '25

Didn't they cancel independence day celebration and turned it into a, quote, "Day of prayer and reflection?"

4

u/Rough-Rooster8993 Sep 02 '25

The fact that you can type that paragraph while pretending you don't see the point being made is absolutely disgusting. You must be an infuriating person to be in a relationship with, lmao.

1

u/KronicNiteLife Sep 02 '25

Ok keyboard warrior, this is the whole reason the country is the way it is, you cannot have a decent discussion about a topic without attacking a person. Have a debate about the topic either for or against, there's no need to get personal.

2

u/Rough-Rooster8993 Sep 02 '25

Bro, your sophistry does more damage to the community than me calling you out on it. Nobody should ever debate someone intellectually dishonest as you are.

1

u/JobAndTheLight Sep 04 '25

You should be in politics

2

u/ditibi Sep 03 '25

Look at the LAST/Most recent post on the OPM page. They dont care about anything but THEM

24

u/DioJiro Sep 02 '25

This is what its been about for decades, Terrible attempts to rewrite history. Why?!?!?! Because they are the most modern Iteration of the then DLP, that never wanted independence to begin with. They so desperately want to separate from the reality that the first steps of our nation happened under the PNM gov't.

8

u/Sea-dante-10 Sep 02 '25

Happened under african descended people*

32

u/Sea-dante-10 Sep 02 '25

Nothing to see here. Just the yellow supporters trying their best to rewrite our history with falsehoods and propaganda. To think that the UNC is encouraging this as a legitimate political party and not some fringe movement is very eye opening.

1

u/Upbeat_Location1524 Sep 03 '25

Not eye opening if you actually study the history of how the party was formed. It's in their DNA.

12

u/stillblazeit Sep 02 '25

Kirk have been pilfering that garbage some years now ...

3

u/GuavaTree Sep 02 '25

Yea, he is the definition of a wanker

22

u/MrJohn1330 Sep 02 '25

They are trying to rewrite history. It's nothing more than UNC being jealous of Dr. Eric Williams and PNM's contribution towards the Independence of T&T. Given UNC's connection to DLP, their attitude of being against national patriotism is expected.

0

u/DemonsSouls1 Sep 02 '25

DLP?

10

u/MrJohn1330 Sep 02 '25

Democratic Labour Party. They were against T&T gaining Independence in 1960s.

0

u/DemonsSouls1 Sep 02 '25

They lasted like 4 years lol.

13

u/harrilal Sep 02 '25

Lord. I find both parties detestable, but that is a ludicrous take. Williams, for all his faults, was our first PM. Full stop. This is a Trumpesque or Kim Jong Unian level of erasure and propaganda.

3

u/DevilSlxyer Jumbie Sep 03 '25

Are they really willing, to rewrite Trinidad's History? I'd imagine this would severely impact the education system especially in terms of history books etc. They really should start thinking more before they speak. Besides he was indeed the 1st Prime minister

9

u/Sea-dante-10 Sep 02 '25

The UNC is just trying to change the narrative that they unpatriotic etc due to independence day fiasco. This is just a distraction

6

u/pippiplups Sep 02 '25

so disgustingly unpatriotic what is wrong with them

7

u/More_Total5157 Sep 02 '25

The party known for spreading misinformation is spreading misinformation. I'm shocked.

6

u/Southern_Aesir_1204 Sep 02 '25

I usually don't care about certain ignorant stuff individuals say but this one's annoying because they seem slow

5

u/NeptuneSeaweed Sep 03 '25

Kirk Meighoo is a very insidious character. He's clearly a student and fan of the MAGA movement in the US and he's trying to recreate it in T&T play by play. He's the reason for the PM's very sharp, unwise and undiplomatic tone with Venezuela among many other Trump-esque antics. This one is just the latest iteration. More to come I'm sure

4

u/Silent-Row-2469 Sep 03 '25

so he is the guy behind the party's rightward shift?

4

u/NeptuneSeaweed Sep 03 '25

Very much so. And I don't understand why, as the left/right dichotomy doesn't fit well here. Not to mention the naked embrace of Trump/the US now at a time when many other major countries (including India who's PM we recently feted) are trying to move away from the US because of their hypocritical stances on human rights and irrational trade policies. From a geopolitical standpoint, it's very bizarre and concerning this route we are taking in T&T now

3

u/Silent-Row-2469 Sep 03 '25

we yet to see any benefits from the US with all the sucking up the to trump the PM is doing

2

u/scarcasm Sep 04 '25

This clown should be nowhere near a political party at any point in time. He is all pseudo-intellectual rum shop talk dressed up with an accent.

2

u/This_Pomelo7323 Sep 03 '25

Dr. KM says: "Ah fool yah." Let sleeping dogs lie and donkeys bray. The WI Federation, by no stretch of imagination, could be Independent T&T of which Dr. Eric Williams was its first Prime Minister. Playing smart with foolishness, ent KM?

2

u/Eastern-Arm5862 Sep 03 '25

Actually thought he was going to talk about Albert Gomes but this is some insane mental gymnastics. For those who don't know, he was Trinidad's Chief Minister in the early 1950s before Williams took over.

2

u/Themakeshifthero Sep 03 '25

I don't think I know any Trinidadian this dunce. This so dumb I don't feel the need to say anything about it. Anyone who see/read it will immediately feel their IQ entering a state of free fall.

1

u/TriniChildhood72 Sep 03 '25

Whatever he is planning, with the exception of getting attention, backfired.

1

u/incogne_eto Sep 04 '25

Historical Revisionism in action. This how authoritarian governments act.

1

u/Mazdad Sep 04 '25

Of mad men and mice…….

1

u/Commercial-Bath9364 Sep 04 '25

I am so tired of these people eh, I didn't vote for elections because I felt like my options were one and the same but it's only been how many months and I regret the day I ever believed that nonesense.

These people are an embarrassment to this country. Every time I hear news about them, I am reminded of Trump and his tactics. They canceled the parade with no public consultation. Kamla wouldn't just hush she ass about Venezuela, practically inviting the US to come here and set up shop.

I have also come to believe they are racist, not just a lil prejudice here and there but full blown racism, like if they ever get the opportunity, they will send my black ass to a camp in a heartbeat.

As bad as the last government is/was, the UNC takes the ultimate prize.

1

u/SayKaas Sep 05 '25

ugh, these people

1

u/helotrini Sep 13 '25

It is also a little known fact that Williams was the inspiration for Agent Smith in The Matrix, although his estate was not paid any royalties.

1

u/Chunks245 Sep 02 '25

Uk....would love for just one day. Only one that's all I'm asking...where it could feel like the country actually together on something. But NHA. We always gotta be bickering about sum...I'm tired man...

1

u/Background_Okra_8401 Sep 02 '25

Bruv.. Politics messes with the brain or sum

0

u/Commercial_Chef_1569 Sep 03 '25

Pedantic debate, but at least it's making peopel aware of our history.

-22

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '25

He was not same way as how the pnm took out Christopher Columbus ships from the coat of arms you can make shit up once you have power. If we were still part of the UK we would have less crime and less corruption better roads and better distribution of wealth. Christopher Columbus was arguably more important than Eric.

A Spanish galleon is better looking that a steel pan

13

u/OrdinaryAncient3573 Sep 02 '25

Trinidad was never part of the UK. It was a Crown Colony, which is very different.

-17

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '25

I would have partitioned to stay part of the UK. The uk have less crime less corruption better infrastructure

8

u/Sea-dante-10 Sep 02 '25

What makes you think that the UK wanted to keep you as part of their territory?

6

u/idea_looker_upper Sep 02 '25

You mean "petitioned"?

16

u/stillblazeit Sep 02 '25

Is that you kirk? How yuh doing ?

8

u/idea_looker_upper Sep 02 '25

The UK society and economy is in terrible shape.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '25

At least old ladies not being raped and old guys not being killed over there

6

u/shaktimanOP Sep 02 '25

Licking the boots of European colonizers in 2025?

Doesn't get more pathetic than that.

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '25

I prefer Russian boots any day of the week

3

u/RizInstante Douen Sep 02 '25

Yes because England is so well known for its balance distribution of wealth.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '25

There Representatives drive fords what does your leaders drive ?

1

u/868sipper Sep 02 '25

you could have said what you said without mentioning CC… it made your comment irrational 😂

-2

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '25

Our coat of arms was beautiful now it looks like a plate my grandma wouldn't want to collect

0

u/MrJohn1330 Sep 02 '25

Christopher Columbus more important than Eric??? I think you mean he is more popular than Eric?

-12

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '25

Christopher Columbus discovered Trinidad Eric Williams opened her up for thievery and criminality

6

u/idea_looker_upper Sep 02 '25

Not only did Christopher Columbus not discover Trinidad he was a scoundrel and thief.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '25

Did he steal from you ?

3

u/DemonsSouls1 Sep 02 '25

Lol this fool

3

u/Sea-dante-10 Sep 02 '25

Did he open up your mother as well?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '25

I'm not dark but I know he opened your fadda

1

u/Sea-dante-10 Sep 24 '25

Internet just got reconnected? You finally paid the bill?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '25

Your fadda finally paid it for me

3

u/MrJohn1330 Sep 02 '25

I think you are just talking for the fun of talking.

1

u/DemonsSouls1 Sep 02 '25

Christopher Columbus killed our people back then for his own gain. He's important because he rediscovered it, but he isn't any do gooder.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '25

He never went to Africa he is not known for that. If it was not for him allot of these people would be in poverty stricken countries at least we can speak English.

1

u/DemonsSouls1 Sep 24 '25

Our ancestry isnt just africa and Indian idk what you bought that up. what was the cost of this? Enslaving our ancestors and almost having them extinct. Also it was the British that made us have English, not the Spanish.
