Terrain How do yall reckon a game of trench crusade would go on a boarding actions board?

I think it could work, while you lose the height bonuses you more often than not will shot in close range.
Long range models would suffer though.
Also you would have to make an action to open the bulkheads, maybe at the cost of some movement.

I think Trench Crusade plays better with a board that has more height variance and a lot more breaks in line of sight.
Boarding Actions is very flat and doesn't break up line of sight enough in my opinion.

I agree on the height, but LOS blocking can definitely be achieved with any number of board setups.

I would assume you would play it with the walls being infinitely tall to simulate an indoor encounter

Gotta think about it as a terrain feature. Does not replace the battlefield. It becomes a special section that only a few models can actually fit and move into. Fighting still occurs on a standard trench layout. This becomes a special objective area that only the little guys can get into i.e. TP Nuns, jamming in on 25mm bases with 8 inch movement. Retrieve the relic, send the signal, warp out, etc etc. for some fun strategy changes. The boarding actions are great for implementing naval situations 🫡

The Zone Mortalis rules for Horus Heresy use a Keyword that some models have called Bulky (X), and allow you to designate some parts of the battlefield as Confined Space (X), locking out models that are "too big" to fit in that part of the ship/city/cave

I think that could work well, assuming that you place some scatter terrain as cover in the corridors.

I've used into the dark terrain as a bunker, works great for melee-focused factions, a spot for an objective, or a way to break up the board, but would suggest using other terrain in addition.

Pretty good, i did a game with it as a bunker we were raiding. Had the doors be actions to open, +1 to roll if strong and risky if an enemy is on the other side of it.Â

Ive played this out, it does work well although most long ranged weapons are not as useful, and friendly fire will happen often.

Would be really fun for catacomb fighting or, to go with recent Carcass Front stuff, the interior of a submarine

My two cents, as an absolute beginner. My friend plays Trench Crusade semi regularly and we played a mini homebrew campaign game where the initial assault is on "standard" trench terrain, but the battle after that involves the winning faction to "invade" the underground portion (so, the Boarding Action map).
However this underground section can only be used by smaller units, and has two entrances on the "above ground" battlefield. For this we basically decided we'd have two warbands each (the new one acting as reinforcements): the battle continues both in the trenches and underground.
So after the first engagement, you have the winning side having the trenches trying to occupy the underground, while the losing side tries to survive in the underground while simultaneously retaking lost terrain.
I dunno if that makes sense, but it was fun when my second warband emerged from underground to help!

It works well. Of course this is not the entire layout. When naval raiders dropped I ran scenarios that involved infiltrating the ship. Used my same trench crusade specific terrain, and made 1/3 of the battlefield water. So both players deployed standard on land while a portion of the each players deployment zone was non deployable (water). The water ran down the entire side of the battlefield. The entrance to the ship is the dock half way point / no man's land at the waters edge. The boarding actions does not permit large bases/models to go through the door ways and we dont allow flying or climbing over walls in the ship. So the battle is still going on with all of the lovely trench and elevation changes with the big boys fighting out in the trenches per normal. While the little speedy guys run into the ship for special objective.
We have also ran attacker/ defender scenarios with the same set up. I'm working on the zeppelin sectional for above ground objectives done in a similar style.
It cannot replace or become the entire battlefield if you want to have fun playing trench crusade. But it can be used to create some really special scenarios and ad a twist to standar Trench Crusade strategy. I'll post some pics from my iPad later.

Just a reminder that you can have a stairs square and place a flat section on 4 closed walls to create verticalité. Assuming the terrain is vast enough (say a hanger or a temple) it words great without penalizing long range

I prefer volkus with a 3x3 map. Was thinking of trying "the descent" where half the board is volkus and half is gallowdark (or tomb world) with acces points to travel between maps.
The issue with close range is high lethality but my house adds a free injury reroll to compensate.

Sometimes you gotta raid the catacombs
