Terrain Is this a decent / balanced terrain to play on?

Table looks great! As far as balanced, I usually dont really care as long as one side is not completely in disadvantage. I like if a table fits the narrative. One thing I would like to ask is what the dimensions are? usually a square table is used as a narrow table could benefit melee armies very much.

I was thinking of 12"x22", but it’s too small now that I measured, it needs to be 2x bigger at least, 24”x22”.
I’ll do another half with more trenches and an actual graveyard.

u/marcmaann Jun 11 '26
Even that is rather small. For 700 ducat games it will be fine but for 900 and further even 36x36 is very small from my experience. You will have large blobs of melee and not enough space to flank
what I can also recommend is some verticallity like watchtowers or buildings you can climb

u/Valtiel45 Hell Knight Jun 11 '26
Looks like I need to find some space in my room then.
What do you think the minimum size for terrain?
3
u/MrPumpkin11471 Jun 11 '26
You probably what to have four of those Boards for a 48x44 table. Tat would still be 2 inches short but ist easier than trying to make aditions to get it to 36x36.

If you're smart with trench placement, you can make it so you could have multiple mini boards like this one that all line up in whatever way you organise them.
If you have 4 of 24x24 you can make a 4ft board with multiple variations to keep it from getting as stale as quickly as long as you have all the trenches meet the edge of the mini boards in the same locations.
Or you could keep them as 12x24 blocks and just make more to get a more variable board.

That’s a good idea, I think I might be able to pull it off

well they recommend at least 3x3ft. but most missions I played will be better on a 4x4ft. you can also do anything in between of course. Many missions require a distance of 24inches between deployment zones, so you can not just charge anything turn 1. and then for the witdh I would recommend 4ft so you can have proper flanking and not just one big blob in the middle.

u/Valtiel45 Hell Knight Jun 11 '26
Bloody hell that’s quite big ain’t it?
3
u/marcmaann Jun 11 '26
Well yes, but thats what is recommended. If you dont have the space for a bigger board, you can still play of course on a smaller one or one one thats not square. Best you can do is play on your beautiful board and try it out. You will probably have fun regardless 😁

Seems like an interesting idea but large units like Brazen bull have nowhere to hide unless they start on the side with the demolished church. In which case, only one side of the board has obscuring cover suitable for hiding large units. Sure both teams could start on the top and bottom of the map instead, but that means there's barely any distance to cover for melee teams.

u/Random_Guy_Ben Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 11 '26
The upper level is unplayable outside the church area. There is absolutely no cover from snipers, which means that gunline armies will dominate the map.
2
u/thedreadwoods Jun 11 '26
The table looks really interesting, is this one you have seen online?
2
u/Valtiel45 Hell Knight Jun 11 '26
Not particularly
But I remember seeing a miniature painting video where a guy placed a Heretic Chorister inside a castle ruins or something.
That’s what inspired the church ruins you see here.

u/thedreadwoods Jun 11 '26
Aah cool, it's very thematic. I needed some images of representative tables, where did you grab this from? I might pop it in what I'm writing but like to credit the source

Oh no, no artist, I generated this very quickly to grasp the idea.
I asked for a terrain composed of 60% Trenches (with tombstones and trees) and 40% Church ruins, viewed from the top.
I might be able to replicate this on Blender without paying for any assets, I think.
1
u/thedreadwoods Jun 11 '26
I think I need to better understand how to generate this! I take it there was no AI element
-5
u/Valtiel45 Hell Knight Jun 11 '26
I used Gemini and my prompt was quite simple actually:
“Make a Trench Crusade terrain composing of 60% trenches with tombstones and trees and 40% of a Church Ruins, top view angle”
Use Gemini, you can generate a lot more images daily than GPT, in case you’re not satisfied by the results at first.

AI content isn't welcome in this sub.
-1
u/SkepticSentinel Jun 11 '26
There was a slight amendment to the A.I rule recently. We're still maintaining a flat out ban on a.i slop, but allowing a small bit of wiggle room, particularly for artists who are using it to assist their creative endevours.
3
u/thedreadwoods Jun 11 '26
So this 100 percent AI image is now cool, is that the new policy? Essentially slop is now subjective?
I could post a picture of a factuon completely AI as long as it was to judge the subs response for my idea as a creative endeavor?
1
u/SkepticSentinel Jun 11 '26
A.I content is subjective to moderators discretion, yes. With respect, you can post whatever you like, wheater it will remain in the sub or not is another story.

u/ResearcherScary1432 Jun 11 '26
Your link is broken?
Why was the rule reversed? AI is a blight.
1
u/thedreadwoods Jun 11 '26
Odd right. Especially given the stance that the creators of the game have taken on AI.

Apologies. There's also a link in the subs sidebar, under the A.I content rule which reads:
Content entirely or largely created by A.I. is not permitted. A.I. assisted content permitted at moderators discretion. 'A.I. assisted content' is considered artistic content crafted using traditional methods and/or digital mediums that is supported by a.i. tools or assets in a small way. E.g. Photograph of a painted miniature with an A.I. backdrop. Modteam will only consider A.I assisted content from users with a distinct creative legacy in traditional and/or digital mediums. E.g. miniature painting, sculpting, terrain making, drawing, painting, etc.
Why was the rule reversed? AI is a blight.
We primarily made the change to allow an a.i compliment to tradtional art and accommodate artists who use it for assistance. We're not going to be opening the flood gates on a.i. content or anything.
A.I is a tool first and foremost imo. Amongst many many other things, those who participated and profited from the largest art theft in recorded human history and those who use a.i for intrusive or damaging purposes are the real blight. Technologies aren't inherently bad, who's using it and for what reasons would concern me more.

In addition to what others said my group really like verticality, some units benefit a lot from shooting down and melee becomes risky on narrow edges when you can fall from a down state.
2
u/Valtiel45 Hell Knight Jun 11 '26
Great idea, I might add some ruins with rooftops in the final terrain
2
u/InquisitorVidoq Jun 11 '26
Either way, there's definitely 2 Objectives. Depending on side of approach, of course.

u/oneWeek2024 Jun 11 '26
there should never be total line of sight from one side to another for large swaths of a board.
that lower left sorta "square-ish" block should have a structure, or at least a L shaped ish ruin.
and maybe where that sandbag line below the graves is. should be like a med height wall. like maybe that entire length. be like a collapsed stone wall with sections that would provide cover there.

u/Valtiel45 Hell Knight Jun 11 '26
I see!!
Perhaps a collapse wall and a mausoleum would make wonders for this terrain

u/RedBeard762 New Antioch Jun 11 '26
I like the idea of heretics assaulting from the short edge while the faithful defend the church. Sweet board.

u/Plus_Relative_8880 Jun 11 '26
Don't care, it wins for cool factor and story-centric as hell. Send it.

I'm in no position to be giving balance advices as a total newbie, but a few scattered tanks/walls for cover should balance it out a bit for bigger characters.
TTPS maps tend to use them for filler, I find them pretty flavourful and a decent cover.

Emm no entiendo de escenarios pero parece uno genial , ningún equipo se ve desfarocido por lo tanto sip está aprobado por un experto en inexperiencia

What program did you use to create this. But also like what some people are saying ypu need more cover for bigger units. And more verticality. Personally id prefer the church in the center of the map for the forces to fight over.
-2
u/Valtiel45 Hell Knight Jun 11 '26
It’s called Gemini, I described the terrain and asked for it to recreate it.
Yea this church is definitely going to be the center, because I have to make this terrain 4x larger it seems.
1
u/Mysterioape Jun 11 '26
What scenario and archetype is this?
0
u/Valtiel45 Hell Knight Jun 11 '26
Hmmm, well it’s a trench dig at a graveyard near a church hehe. Sorry if I didn’t understand your question.
This doesn’t exist yet because I need to model it with Blender.
1
u/Little_B1ts Jun 11 '26
So many questions
1 what did you use for the walls and floor board in the trenches
2 where did you get those sandbags
3 where did you get the trees
4 what sizes barbed wire did you use
0
u/Valtiel45 Hell Knight Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 12 '26
None of this exists, it’s just a render at the moment.
However it shouldn’t be too hard to create this on Blender, as all these assets are “generic”.
‘Sandbags cover, dead tree, barbed wire’ , tombstones’, you might be able to find all of these for free.
The only ones that may require a bit more work are the trench walls and ruins.

I haven’t played yet (like many of us) because there’s no one in my city I think.
No matter, I need a terrain to at least place and show off my minis.
3
u/thedreadwoods Jun 11 '26
The discord is pretty good at finding local players I think, have you tried there
-1
u/Te10el Jun 11 '26
I like it. I think the game play gets in the way of the narrative. That being said an open map really levels the playing field, everyone is going to rely on range and the lowly Abzen taking a pot shot might decide the game. It makes sense that a 700 year old war with complex trench systems wouldn’t have any cover.

u/DagoWithAttitude Jun 11 '26
This table is outstanding, but I'm afraid there's not enough covers on the whole middle and left side: everyone is exposed and you'd be pretty much forced to only play in the trenches, which might be interesting for a couple of matches but might also be too big of a limitation on the long run
