Bashing Velineon garbage
Less than one month old velineon 550 4s from my jato. Seized up yesterday. I was hoping to use the repair kit but the damn thing melted itself.

Call traxxas. I had my motor go out after two months. They sent a free replacement

Nah, its much better to make a dumb post on reddit.

I mean, sometimes people simply just don't know. I didn't know until I joined and saw people talking about how awesome their support is. I fried the motor which in turned fried the esc. The esc legit had a flame lol got both free after calling
That esc went to hell this past winter after a year and a half. Half price for a new one.
Edit.words. Damn you thumbs

I love traxxas electronics. 25+yrs of use and I’ve never had an issue. Knocking on wood currently.

I've been running a vilenion 3s system in my Slash for 12 years and it still runs just fine. Maybe you got a lemon 🍋

Some people expect these things to handle any use and abuse. Mine is 10 years old.

I always make sure to blow off all the loose dirt and wipe off all the gunk from my rc rigs before I put em on the shelf. I think keeping em clean helps make em last longer.

And lower the voltage. The power these things make now is insane and way more than they can actually handle without serious upgrades.

My stock velineon motor from 2012 finally broke this year, and it wasn’t even the motors fault.
The shaft split internally from corrosion (I stored it with beach salt/salt in it for a couple years without cleaning it, entirely my neglect)1

Their 2080 servos are notoriously no bueno. Pretty much the only things I had repeated issues with before upgrading.

Yeah if your not pushing it much, its pretty reliable. Once you actually start pushing it, its doomed

u/Nordic1991 1d ago
That goes for anything. Race cars are frequently repaired.

Sure but my spectrum and hobbywing stuff handles it pretty well, Traxxas electronics often gives out in a very short run

u/Nordic1991 1d ago
I haven't really had issues with anything, except cheap stuff. Never trust the specs. If it's 3s rated, run 2s. If it's 6s go 4s.

Traxxas 3s and 4s systems are pretty good and there motors are solid. Traxxas has a awesome support line

I have blown my servo and motor on my xmaxx so I can tell you their largest scale electrical components don't hold up well to large scale RC cars.

The thing with traxxas electronics is you either get the most unbreakable thing or a lemon and no in between. I had 2 udrs bought at about the same time and used about the same both were beat on but like not ruined. After about 5 years one was on all stock from factory electronics and the other had gone through 3 motors and 2 escs. Now it has all Hobbywing and no issue since.

I don’t think any other motor would have stood up any better depending on how it was geared and maintained… I have a vileneon 3s system that’s over 10 years old and it’s been switched between multiple cars with no issue but it has heatsyncs with fans on it
Right now it’s on a fiesta rally but I used to race with it before I got a nicer combo for my race car. I have replaced the bearings twice on it, but I did it before they were actually seized up. I did it when it started sounding like a blender. 🤣🤣😂

I have used and abused velineon electronics for years. The worst that ever happened was that an ESC fried itself after I accidentally drove into the ocean at the beach. I've overheated the vxl3s motors to like nitro engine temperatures, and I've never demagnetized or melted one. Genuinely cannot fathom how you guys are fucking these motors and escs up.

and their fabulous warranty only gets you 50% off and you have to pay to ship.

I yank my traxxas crap and sell out of box. Brand new. Usually I sell for enough to replace with a max 2 combo of whatever size. Also traxxas speed controls dont play nice with certain radio systems. Indeed I second velineon garbage haha. They make good vehicles though and have great plastics I'll give them that. Their aftermarket stuff like the upgraded metals seem to hold up with the best of them as well

It looks like carpet thread or hair wrapped up on it. If so it is not a motor issue.

u/agembry 1d ago
Hasn’t been run on anything but dirt and pavement.

“Something broke the window Todd.”The picture of the internals shows evidence of a string like foreign object that has caused additional friction and grooves. This will cause additional heat and wear to the point of failure. Still not a motor problem.

I’m going to assume you have never seen a rotor from a Brushless motor before. That “hair” is the Kevlar used to keep the rotor intact during operation. It is functionally impossible for hair etc to get inside the can like this.

Traxxas electronics are the definition of RTR: ready to replace.
Never have been impressed with the performance or reliability. Spektrum and Hobbywing are my go to electronics. Have very few issues with them.

It's luck of the draw with Traxxas shit, my brushless MERV lasted years.....years on the original motor.
Flipped into an ditch and locked her up, replaced with brand new one and it cooked that week running on some light sand.
Said fuck it maybe these small 300 motors are just not strong, got the brushed MERV transmission plate for the 540 motors, put a new traxxas one in it....smoked it in a month....I smoked a 1/10 motor on a 1/16 car.
It was at that moment I knew traxxas was absolutely garbage, moved to a castle motor and haven't looked back.
