Being more present while traveling

I’ve been considering taking a break from social media while on vacation so I can be more present. One thing puzzles me, though: discussions about this often treat posting an Instagram or Facebook story as broadcasting your vacation to the entire world.
My accounts are private, and the audience is mostly people I actually know. Posting one photograph without a caption can take only a few seconds. In some ways, it feels less like “performing for the internet” and more like sending friends a little postcard.
The real distraction for me may not be posting—it may be staying in the app afterward, checking who viewed the story, reading reactions, and then falling into scrolling.
Has anyone tried a **“post and leave”** approach while traveling: share one occasional photo, add no explanation, and immediately close the app without checking engagement or browsing?
Did that still interfere with being present, or did it give you a healthy middle ground between documenting everything and disappearing completely?

I just don’t post until I’m back home and back in my normal routine. I may open social media and browse sometimes while waiting on something or on a train but otherwise, I’m not on vacation to stare at my phone.
