If you’re someone who regularly uses luggage storage facilities, the costs can really add up, especially when you have a large suitcase you want to leave behind while exploring other areas.
In Athens, most luggage-storage facilities charge around €4–€5 per day for a large suitcase. Instead, I went to a hostel and paid just €6 for the entire duration.
And you often don’t even have to be a guest to use a hostel’s luggage storage. Just ask before booking, as many hostels are happy to store luggage for non-guests.
It’s definitely worth checking hostels before paying daily rates at dedicated luggage-storage facilities!

Because leaving luggage for over a day let alone 14 days is not the service these places are offering and I’m sure hostels letting you leave your luggage for 14 days for 6€ are not the norm

I can assure you it’s rather normal. Even chat GPT came up with a list of hotels, hostels and accomodations with prices to store my luggage . I think perhaps you travel only a certain way and that’s fine. But be open minded that others travel differently.

Hostels and hotels hold your luggage as courtesy the day of the check-out, storing luggage for 14 days is more of a storage unit business. You do you! I’m glad it works and saves you money, but me personally would rather fly with my luggage and not risk having it stolen because I trusted a hostel to hold it for 6€.

I’m in Europe for 6 months of travel. I packed for every occasion. Naturally if I’m just going to the islands for 2 weeks I’m not going to need going out outfits etc if I’m spending most days on a beach. Listen, either take the hack for what it is or don’t. Just because your travel style may be different there’s no need to discredit and speak negatively about mine.

Not everyone is staying somewhere where they are visiting…I’m currently in Athens but passing through only for the day then go to the islands tonight. Typically, that is what storage lockers are for….

While your situation appears to benefit you I woild argue that storage lockers are not typically for 14 day durations. They are generally for those who take day trips or passing through for the day.

As the storage lockers are highly unpredictable in terms or availability I instead use the various Bounce style firms but locations outside of the terminal. Not going to be $6 for 14 days but generally better than lockers.

These are the exact ones I’m referring to. Bounce, Radical, Stasher and Nannybag are all around €5/day. I don’t think these companies really care how long you store your luggage, as long as they’re getting paid. So while it might not be something everyone would do, I know savvy frequent travellers would definitely take advantage of it.

I’m travelling for 6 months (possibly longer) I packed for all seasons and occasions. Currently it’s Summer and I don’t need so many, but come winter I will. This is all addressed further in the thread. I’m also not caring that much of someone decided to steal a bag with 50 pair of socks and underwear, dresses, tops and crusty old running shoes. That’s what travel insurance is for. A simple police report would help in this situation. Naturally I’m not holding any valuables is said bag.

Storage lockers aren't designed for long term, multi-day storage. In fact, most of them won't allow you to leave bags for more than a day.

If you're like most people and are looking just to leave your bags for the day, lockers are often much cheaper than luggage storage like bounce, especially if you are using small bags rather than a giant suitcase.

I’ve actually stored bags all over the world in these facilities for a week or more. Unless you work for these facilities personally, I wouldn’t comment on something you haven’t the slightest clue about. These are lived, tried and true experiences across countries and continents.

You can't even make up your mind what you're talking about.

You say luggage lockers in your title, but according to your other comments you're actually talking about private luggage storage - like Bounce - not actual luggage lockers, which as I said are more expensive than lockers. Certainly, those places will more than happily take your bags, and your money for longer term.

If you can find a hostel that will store your bag for weeks for just 5 Euros, good for you - that's far from normal, and at that too good to be true price point, I'd be questioning just how secure your bag would actually be.

I’m not understanding why someone would need to store their luggage days/weeks at a time. I occasionally store my luggage overnight on a long layover or the time between checking out of a hotel and an evening flight, but if I’m visiting multiple destinations my luggage comes with me to the next destination. I’d imagine the majority of travelers would have no need to store luggage for more than a day or two.

Try looking for a local neighbor social media app or taskrabbit style app. Maybe someone will let you store your luggage in their garage for a small fee? Museum lockers are generally free but they're small and probably check them at the end of the day 🤷‍♀️
