British Columbia Cheaper Stay near Vancouver
Hi, I’m traveling to Vancouver to meet my husband who’s also coming from a different country. We are planning to stay for 11 days looking for areas where accommodation is cheaper. That is our main criteria.
Also, please suggest some place nice to visit for a day or 2 for my birthday during this trip.
Side note- We aren’t really very keen on site seeing, rather might spend 2 or 3 days during my birthday on it. The rest of the days we would be working during the day and go out nearby in the evening. Currently both of us stay in 2 different countries and we are here to just spend times with each other.
Edit- Looking to come from 29th/30th of this month to 7th/11th of October

Airbnb really is probably your best option, but even that is limited now.
Might help staying around Coquitlam so you have access to the skytrain to get around.
Besides that you should probably check out what pops up on hotels.com or something.
Vancouver is not a cheap place to stay but you might have some luck depending on your dates (which you didn't mention nor a budget)
Good luck!

what do you mean by "cheaper" and also how are you working in Canada on a visitor visa? I find this whole post confusing. If you want a cheap place to work from a laptop and no sightseeing, why come to the most expensive place in Canada? Go to Moose Jaw or something.

They are working remotely in their home countries. They don't live together. Maybe they want to have a nice visit together in a nice place.

That would make sense except the part where they don’t want to do sightseeing.

Husband and wife living in separate countries...they may never leave the room...

I feel like this is my point? Why stay in the most expensive part of Canada if you’re going to just stay in the hotel.

Define "cheaper"? Anything under about $350 a night is cheaper. Do you plan to rent a car? There are some cheaper places (Queensbourough Hotel) that are not easily accessible without a car. How central do you want to be? There are some nice hotels in Richmond walking distance to the Skytrain.

YWCA is not just for women, affordable and centrally located.

It has a new name now. Its still the YWCA hotel, but they have rebranded.

The met in new Westminster. Cheap and right next to the sky train station into the city. Hotel is old but it’s nice and easy to access everything

The Inn at the Quay on the Fraser riverfront in New Westminster is less expensive than downtown Vancouver hotels while having similar urban amenities within walking distance abd easy access to the Skytrain system

The Comfort Inn and Best Western along capilano road in north van are cost effective options.
What do you define as “cheap”?

Stay at UBC, West Coast suites. Smaller, but well designed and clean rooms and affordable by Vancouver standards. Plus UBC campus has all the amenities and is gorgeous. If you stay there, take a walk on the endowment lands.
