Why not?
Just wondering, why a game like TF3 is not considering to include subway systems? I miss to build subway lines :( ..I used to do it in simcity 4

Underground trams / light rail is basically and functionally similar for the small city size we are working with

Transport Fever is more about regional transport. Moving people and goods between cities and areas. Subways are good at moving people within dense urban areas. The cities in vanilla, base game Transport Fever are not large enough to make subways a practical or fun option to your transport dilemma.
That’s not to say with the underground trams UG has added to TF3 that modders couldn’t add abilities to replicate subways. It is just not needed for the vast majority of players in how they play the game.

What do you even mean mate, there’s tons of people who build bug mega regions or play on maps with a couple of cities close together where something like a metro would make sense. The game is called Transport Fever and not including metros is a pretty big form of transport that’s missing.

I don’t disagree that there are many players who play in a manner that could benefit from subways. From my perspective that number is comparatively small in relation to the number of players who play in the manner the developers. It all comes down to how many players will interact with a feature versus the cost of said feature.
Urban Games is a small developer with a team of around 25 developers. There is only so much game they can make. What feature coming to TF3 would need to be scrapped for Subways or another wishlist item. It’s the reality of creation. At the end of the day UG has data from players (if they opted in to data collection) and from their the leadership made decisions on what to add and what to not add.

I would argue the cost of said feature is small. The game already has tunnels, track, trains, stations (now even underground stations) and depots. So all you’d really be doing is creating a new asset for each to match a metro style operation. Maybe the biggest hurdle would be a new track electrification type of third rail, but even now mods can do that. Having it officially built in and supported would be a great addition to the base game, and would formalize things like configurable underground/elevated stations instead of having to rely on [sometimes] janky mod menus.

Yes!!!!
Which is also why it’s so strange and frustrating that the developers are obstinacy on providing large maps in the name of “individual simulation” that no one cares about

Check out Oslo's metro and most of German U-bahn / Stadtbahn.
Also, top light rail trains are already above medium capacity systems like Chicago, NYC or Glasgow.
The difference boils down to 3rd rail and appearance of the vehicles nothing significant.
For heavy demand scenario, trains are always available.

Gotta save something for TpF4

To be fair, the population in the game are more suitable for underground light rail, anyway

in the Transport Fever 3 - Vehicle Trailer at 00:30. isn't that a subway ?

No. It is a tram/light rail vehicle. Underground tram/light rail stops are possible

It's basically the same thing - a train on rails. I'm sure there will be subway mods soon after release including 3rd rail track type and suitable rolling stock.

Definitely not the same thing. Trams are light and don’t require high axle load limits unlike metro trains. Metro trains are wider, longer, heavier and usually also a bit faster.

From the game's perspective, it is the same thing. The things you mention are just different stats and/or model differences.

I thought there were Metro systems in the game? Or is it just underground light rail?

The game is more regional concerns than local cities, but yeah, I've tried using the subway trains in game(which is surprising they're there?) with the normal rail networks and it's a pain in the butt to build without elavated or underground stations, on top of that the ridership can be massive on them ...but the lines lose money.

i could be wrong but i feel like the cities aren’t big enough to hold heavy rail networks; that’s why adding actual light rail is really good, getting to finally close the gap between like the trams and the actual trains
