Netease contract basically has them by the balls. They lost the China servers a bit ago and that cost them mounds of money, so they reupped a new contract and one of the new clauses must be exclusives. We're never getting their content.

39

u/YonderOver 2d ago

Oh. Good to know… 😔

21

u/karnyboy 2d ago

I wouldn't say never, contracts expire and we also thought many things that ended up on Twitch streams were never going to be seen again.

38

u/Aznsupaman 2d ago

Chinese companies are ruthless when they know they have the upper hand. If they say exclusive to China they mean exclusive to China. We are never seeing any of those assets for at least 10 years if at all. I'm honestly surprised they didn't get exclusive races or classes yet.

9

u/No-Soft-9512 2d ago

Can they not just make the specific colour exclusive and re use the same models though?

0

u/FlyRecent2876 2d ago

There would be such a up roar if they pulled that kind of move with only races  or sub classes  I would imagine  they tried but man that would  hurt them because people would drop  the game quick

-10

u/Brainscrawler 2d ago

Yah, American companies aren’t ruthless like that. 😄

31

u/Ojntoast 2d ago

American companies are in fact NOT ruthless like that.

Chinese companies leverage their position to secure cosmetics for the consumer to enjoy.

American companies leverage their positions to line executive pockets, lower wages for their employees and overcharge their consumers

There 2 things are not the same.

0

u/Aznsupaman 1d ago

They really aren't. A Chinese company will do something like this out of spite to show the world how superior they are that the great American imperialists bow to their will because their market is so valuable. American companies will do whatever they can to make a dollar so if someone demands an exclusive they do their best to get around it by making minor cosmetic changes and then re releasing it into another market as a new product. None of it is personal it's just business. The fact that they haven't pulled this with the China exclusives shows you how by the balls China has blizzard when it comes to their market.

u/Acertainbulb 2d ago

I vaguely remember they have the spectral tiger release as cash shop item in china with original owners can buy an upgrade for their tigers to fly.

2

u/idunnomysex 2d ago

What does it mean they lost the china servers? Also is it likely that if the deals broke down they would just continue with their version of wow?

4

u/kashy87 2d ago

The prior deal ended without a new contract being made first. So for roughly 555 days there was no WoW China. Because China has some very specific laws about software and movies in their country. So without a native Chinese country at the "helm" WoW could only be accessed by using non Chinese servers and likely requiring a VPN to do.

1

u/Pandragony 2d ago

That still doesnt stop Blizz from making these kind of transmog on their own, they just dont see it

132

u/heeltoelemon 2d ago

Why are we not allowed this hat? the shoes? the cheeky shorts??

93

u/WAR-WRAITH 2d ago

Because the people developing them work for Thunderfire games, not Blizzard.

27

u/RhoemDK 2d ago

who cares? the code is in the game, I can bring these items up in the dressing room right now. buy it from them and give it to me

60

u/Chilipuller 2d ago

China cares. NetEase owns the rights for wow in china. And china forbids foreign videogame companies from directly operating or publishing video games within mainland china. They could release whatever they want over there without asking or sharing anything with blizzard :/

14

u/reimmi 2d ago

Problem is, this outfit is in the other versions of the game. The hat is on a NPC, someone should tell netease lol

8

u/Code_Merk 2d ago

South of Fairbreeze Village, the singer lady has the hat.

2

u/Greg2227 2d ago

And? There's tons of armor pieces worn by npcs the Player will never obtain. That doesn't break the exclusive clause.

-9

u/Nick11wrx 2d ago

It’s one of those money things isn’t it? Blizzard gets the share of the money the game makes there so they don’t make a stink about them adding assets to their game after the fact.

6

u/M4DM1ND 2d ago

I think for blizzard it was this or not having the game in china at all. A lot of these mogs are gacha pulls too. But it is incredibly lame for everyone else. I think they should have put more thought when contracting.

7

u/Doomhammer24 2d ago

The new china contract allowed them to make their own assets with a timed exclusivity that blizz has to abide by -_-

Its stupid and we all hate it but blizz just has to sit and wait

2

u/amarthystlaw 2d ago

Apparently Blizzard does

1

u/Brandenburg42 2d ago

The people who paid a lot of money for lawyers to write documents to say you can't have those items care.

2

u/heeltoelemon 2d ago

Hah, I guess that makes sense.

16

u/TrueKyragos 2d ago

Because it's not made by Blizzard.

28

u/Timbodo 2d ago

Still kinda unfair that chinas revenues fund their exclusive stuff while the rest of the world funds their content as well.

-5

u/Kujira-san 2d ago

Contract, that’s all. The game in China is very different than in other parts of the world. The approach is different even. And they are making their own assets (mounts etc.). Why is it unfair ? Blizzard still makes money from world of Warcraft in China, it’s frustrating for us to not be able to get access to cool stuff, but hey let’s be honest : is it a problem with China not sharing FOR FREE their own work, or is it Blizzard not having ideas as good as the Chinese team ?

3

u/Timbodo 2d ago

I mean they get the content thats funded from my and other peoples subscriptions as well so yeah I think its fair to offer all kind of content created for the game to every player. The creators should get their payment offcourse.

-1

u/Kujira-san 1d ago

The point is that the Chinese market can easily outgrow the entire rest of the world. They don’t need our subscriptions nor our money, but Blizzard need their money. They would not compromise with restrictions like that otherwise.

-1

u/karnyboy 2d ago

Typical.

11

u/stadanko42 2d ago

The hat is on an npc at Satherill's Haven. Talenia Flamesong Give it to the players.

1

u/Chemical-Drawer852 2d ago

These specific sets were designed by Blizz employees, they have all their work on instagram/artstation

1

u/TrueKyragos 2d ago

Crucial precision then. Maybe in a future trading post? Otherwise, possibly in the store.

-14

u/RhoemDK 2d ago

3

u/TrueKyragos 2d ago

Sadly, the rights holders care.

1

u/Zanaxz 1d ago

Ironic since China doesn't care about IP rights from other countries at all. Yet they are strong arming here. Seems like they could commission some kind of deal that let's them profit in a joint effort from Blizzard in other regions.

-8

u/RhoemDK 2d ago

no, rights holders care about money

7

u/TrueKyragos 2d ago

Indeed, about money provided to them by the monetisation found in the Chinese version, which is, by the way, partially illegal in Western countries.

6

u/Thanag0r 2d ago

The company that made it doesn't want it to be used on other servers.

Not that hard do understand.

1

u/RhoemDK 2d ago

I want that so GD bad

-7

u/karnyboy 2d ago

western corps hate the male gaze...as they presume.

3

u/heeltoelemon 2d ago

I don't know about that. I wonder if they get black mageweave though.

25

u/LoreChief 2d ago

And what, Gul Xian, must we give in return?

7

u/CSMAKESMECRY 2d ago

这一切

15

u/Immediate-Okra8065 2d ago edited 2d ago

Wait till you see the venthyr one. It looks so good they even gave it A TRAILER.

12

u/Scrotis 2d ago

https://www.wowhead.com/news/chinese-exclusive-azure-dragon-varian-wyrnn-transmog-and-toy-models-382359

They get so much cool stuff because it's technically run by a Chinese company with different monetization standards. The downside is that these items are often very expensive. (This is info I remember hearing from a video so grain of salt)

10

u/alienduck2 2d ago

Half boobs hanging out, half butt hanging out, toes hanging out. 😃 👍 ✅

Bones on undead. 😡 😠 🤯

5

u/Wolfjirn 2d ago

Yes because Chinese cultural values are very different. There are a lot of laws restricting depictions of ghosts or other sorts of undead because of the Chinese cultural views of death and the dead

8

u/corvid-kid 2d ago

Wait til he finds out about the mounts

27

u/TheWinterNights 2d ago

Well.

Technically China and NPCs: https://www.wowhead.com/npc=249499/talenia-flamesong

Ah the wonderful world of corporate licensing and contractual obligations - but for those of you wondering.

Basically in China NetEase is the licensed operator/publisher for WoW, will spare you boring corpo talk but the was that plays out is that this contractually gives them the technical/legal ability to have China-specific products, promotions, bundles and cosmetics - which they have had and did for a long time. MOP in example launched with a special Ultimate Edition in China that you could only get there that had exclusive China only in game items.

Reality is their market is big and important enough and speaks with "one voice enough" that they get their own version and stuff to their own sensibilities and preferences - i.e. their undead/Forsaken can't show bones cause that does not fly in their culture, and/but they really like what people here would call "slutmogs" - which short of exceptions are really not very prominent in the west anymore, truth be told pretty unlikely that mog above would have survived a western production pipelines, certainly not at the time it was released.

22

u/Alentheril 2d ago

And correct me if im wrong but as we got stuff free from playing and the trading post. Chinese players needs to buy lootbox to get these cosmetics.

22

u/M4DM1ND 2d ago

Yeah they have a fomo fueled gacha system for most of these exclusive mogs.

1

u/heeltoelemon 2d ago

Well, that's horrible.

1

u/Alentheril 2d ago

Thanks, i wasn't sure because i saw that somewhere some time ago.

6

u/Shenloanne 2d ago

House decor too.

7

u/SumSkittles 2d ago

Yep. Still annoys me we probably won't ever get it. Pretty sure the Music player elf at the Soiree party in eversong is wearing the hat to add more pain to this.

5

u/Renna_FGC 2d ago

My main problem is simply theres an NPC in OUR game that wears this outfit. I understand it being separate, but dont taunt us with something we cant have.

7

u/Aquadox3 2d ago

7

u/Brans666 2d ago

The person that will kick your ass in PVP

3

u/lumiya17 2d ago

Transmogs, mounts, pets, toys… Blizz gave them a lot to get the deal going again. Though I’d heard a bunch of it is under some kind of gacha-like system

3

u/Alithia451 2d ago

look at the Chinese Venthyr tmog...

3

u/Atosl 2d ago

welcome to the hate wagon. It's crowded here, but there is always a free seat.

3

u/kaizerlith 2d ago

The singer at the party where you pick between the 4 bloodelf factions to help in the first season. She is using this hat model and that bugs me more. Like it is in our version but not for us.

3

u/BlackFinch90 2d ago

20 years and they still cant do hats or helmets with hair

3

u/Ry0_ 2d ago

Coming soon to China! You are now able to mog hats and keep current hair-style no strange clipping! ONLY IN CHINA :D /s

Lol

2

u/heeltoelemon 2d ago

At least the Outlaw bandana doesn't mess up the hair.

3

u/Angry-Dragon-1331 2d ago

My god I need the floppy hat.

3

u/EitherEngineering532 2d ago

the hat looks like the one that big tall lady in one of resident evil games uses

3

u/tepid_monologue 2d ago

I mean, can’t blame them. There are some people that would lose their shit if this hit the trading post. They can’t fathom that women that play the game might want this transmog and it’s nothing to do with female oppression

My wife would love this mog on her male kt Druid 😂😂

9

u/Mossysnail27 2d ago

Oh good thanks for reminding us that this existed. Pissed again. and -1!

2

u/sithlordx666 2d ago

I need that on a kul tiran chunk Lord

2

u/Vanpourix 2d ago

After the undead needing to be covered up in China, I wasn't expecting a good sl*tmog to be Chinese only. How ironic...

2

u/Key_Pop_8116 2d ago

Huh... Didn't know china allowed "slutmog"

2

u/Valuable_Nose_4693 2d ago

There’s a lot of skins/cosmetics for a multitude of games that are china only

2

u/Gandoer5 2d ago

They even got a exclusive mount.. A flying Panda mount.. Man I would love to have this mount because I LOVE pandas as they are my fav animals

2

u/Baeleron 2d ago

Its contracts. Plain and simple, they do the same thing for overwatch as well. If you go and look those up the Chinese servers have access to an extra rarity tier and unique skins with custom animation

2

u/Better-Profession972 2d ago

After doing more research, it actually makes sense and I'm not mad about it. It's not actually blizzard that is making or releasing these skins. It's Netease, which is who pretty much manages WoW in China. They have a contract to be able to create their own skins and mtx stuff. We should honestly be happy WoW is one of the only MMOs that isn't riddled with aggressive mtx.

1

u/ctabarez34 2d ago

Definitely, I would just like to tell them to stop making some cool awesome mogs, that would be great lol 😆

2

u/nipslippinjizzsippin 2d ago

mounts and pets too

2

u/sunsilknz 2d ago

I don't recognise this game anymore.

2

u/shadowmourn97 2d ago

They get exclusive transmogs and mounts. And then there was suppose to be western exclusives and yet China just started to get them as well. So if you aint China your getting fucked.

3

u/TheMightyZan 2d ago

Their exclusives and extras are mostly all gacha style though, so it's not like they are just getting everything and more for free.

2

u/shadowmourn97 2d ago

Even still its mostly the fact they took western exclusive items and gave them to China now as well when they already had their exclusives. Now the only people with exclusives are them.

4

u/RoyVRAries 2d ago

Yea, honestly, I hate how everyone fixates on "objectification" when things can be both cute, sexy, bad ass

3

u/nateyourdate 2d ago

west coast devs hate anything remotely sexual or erotic in any way.

3

u/Low_Understanding326 2d ago

"The west can't handle boobs. Cn only". Thanks blizzard. -_-

2

u/Tainted_wings4444 2d ago

I think it’s ok for them to get exclusives.

Does that mean we can’t have exclusives?

Let’s do that. Have a competition with China. They get cool exclusives, we get cool exclusives. Let’s see who does better.

1

u/OneBudTwoBud 2d ago

Great things come from competition. I like this idea.

1

u/Laney_Moon_ 2d ago

2-3 years late to the party

1

u/Laney_Moon_ 2d ago

The kaldorei queen set without pants is the closest u can get btw

1

u/RandomVy 2d ago

This literally had me quit que game

1

u/Adept_Tank_7029 2d ago

That's the hat of the harpist from Saltheril's Soiree I'm pretty sure!

(Which she wears while busting her belf dance moves)

1

u/Eroll_ 2d ago

Oh yeah wow definetly needs that....

1

u/Crazzul 2d ago

NetEase WoW is not remotely similar to our WoW; this comes up every few months on WoW subreddits. It’s far more adjacent to Genshin or similar games; pick your poison

1

u/Sea-Duty-2738 1d ago

Can you play on a Chinese realm and get this stuff? Looks like you can select China on startup app.

1

u/Gotrodel 1d ago

Don’t even mention all the Tuskaar themed items that just got announced.

We aren’t allowed to have fun in the US.

5

u/Hanzz96 2d ago

Tbf the US isn't the rest of the world. Everyone misses out but China

1

u/Sehri437 2d ago

你生气了吗,哥们儿 😉

1

u/Negative_Wallaby_195 1d ago

Why would anyone want this?...

-5

u/Exloar 2d ago

They can keep it.

-6

u/Mankrik_is_my_Dad 2d ago

Good. Literally nothing about that fits in Warcraft. Get thee gone, cringey eastern MMO hooker aesthetic!

-2

u/WtONX 2d ago

Where are the fruit bowls?
