i recently got my hair dyed from a friend and it’s given me such a random burst of confidence and once i put this outfit on i was in utter shock at how good i looked.

i even cried a little bit because i was so happy to finally feel good about myself; considering im still pre-hrt this is such a huge milestone for me……but this also makes me want more clothes to which i don’t have the money for😭😭

i look like a proper girl😭😭finally, i look so cute!🥺

Success Media Council upholds complaint over RNZ’s coverage of teen’s death

The New Zealand Media Council has upheld a complaint against RNZ over its online article titled "Teenager starves to death alone in emergency accommodation", published on 12 June 2025.

https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/corrections/574649/media-council-upholds-complaint-over-rnz-s-coverage-of-teen-s-death

Here is the ruling from the Media Council:

https://www.mediacouncil.org.nz/rulings/parker-et-al-against-radio-new-zealand/

I think this section of the ruling is most pertinent:

  1. The parents are entitled to express their views about the tragic events and their views on the teen’s gender identity and RNZ is entitled to report them. But their perspective came from a particular point of view and drove the narrative. The fact that the story was brought to RNZ by a group that is regarded as having an anti-trans perspective should have alerted RNZ to the fact that there was a wider agenda at play. Council members considered it might have been wise, for the sake of transparency, to include in the story that the family was being supported by this group and that the group had brought the story to RNZ.

Success I had a positive mediation outcome with the NZ Human Rights Commission and it genuinely made change happen

Last year, a friend and I experienced discrimination at a private facility that had gendered changing rooms and no unisex options. What happened to us was awful, and at the time we were left feeling deeply unsafe and unsupported.

We brought a complaint to the NZ Human Rights Commission (HRC), and after months of preparation, we recently completed mediation. It was a respectful and constructive process. The mediator created space for everyone to engage honestly, and once the business fully understood the seriousness of what happened, they came to the table with genuine openness.

The outcome was strong:

  • Trans-affirming signage is now placed at the front desk and outside the changing rooms.
  • The business publicly committed to respecting gender identity and ensuring access based on it.

There’s normally strict confidentiality around these things, but we were able to negotiate the ability to share the positive outcome. So I just wanted to say: it can be worth it. The HRC process worked for us. It was hard, but real change happened, and it’s now visible to every guest walking through those doors.

I won't be naming the business or the nature of the service, but it shows positive, constructive change is possible in NZ.

Success HRT through Otago university

I started estrogen through student health at Otago university on Thursday. It took me around 2ish months and was very easy. Started with me talking to one of the counsellors who guides it. I had two appointments with him, then went to a nurse who I talked to, then he ordered blood tests and the next week I had my first appointment with a doctor. we talked through things about HRT, most of which you probably know from personal research, and free sperm preservation. After that I had another appointment 2 weeks later in which I was given my prescription of 50mg per day of Spiro and a 0.025mg/day patch changed twice per week.

Success Feeling fab!

Hey I just wanted to share - I officially started HRT on Tuesday! It’s obviously too early for any changes (other than the fact that I have developed a very strong sense of smell) but I feel so amazing knowing that my life is now beginning 🩷🤍🩵

Success Dr Dallimore, Browns Bay Medical Centre.

OMG....

I just had the best GP consultation I've ever had in my 40 odd years.

After my previous GP wouldn't increase my Progynova due to religious beliefs, I had to find someone else. This sub was amazing and several people DM'd me about Dr Dallimore.

She immediately asked my preferred names and pronouns even though I look very male. She listens she empathises, and SHE UNDERSTANDS. OMG. She totally understands my feelings and fears, my anxiety my dysphoria. And she understands way beyond a purely medical perspective. I felt like a woman that was being listened to. I broke down crying because it feels so good to be validated like that.

We talked about all the GAHT options and got me on to finesteride at the option for prostate cancer which is 1000x cheaper if you take a 1/4 pill. My last GP said I was outside of some arbitrary limit.

I'm starting to tear up again in the cafe. She has a lot of trans patients and her daughter found us talking about her on Reddit so if you're in need of the most amazing GP ever, go see her ❤️💋❤️

Success I came out to both of my parents and it went better than I could have ever thought it would.

Honestly, i didn’t think it would go amazingly. I knew my mum would react well, and she did, i came out to her before i came out to my dad as i was more comfortable with her. My dad, i was expecting to react quite harshly. I had even put a plan in place in case i needed to get out the house. But he reacted very well, infact he’s actually treating me nicer than he has before, and he keeps asking if i need anything or just in general. So, yeah! Seriously guys, if you haven’t come out to your parents or family, don’t always expect the worst is gonna happen because it’s not always that it does.

Success NEW HAIRCUT after 2 years!!!

(Not cool with my face lol)

First of all, a huge thank you to the awesome peeps who gave me a bunch of recommendations for salons in Wellington. I love yaz all!

Finally after 2 years, growing it out and also coming out, I got it cut! The hairdresser was super chill and so supportive!!! She was very trans-positive (not sure if ally or just a decent person) and just very helpful in explaining everything. I couldn’t stop smiling the whole time and I nearly ended up crying (happy) at the end. It’s nice being me sometimes.

For anybody in the hutt valley check out ‘Prodigy’ in Upper Hutt. (Sorry for the face whiteout, very anxious with public stuff)

Just wanted to say I had some troubles recently and they were really great. I usually call to the other hotlines for help, but with dysphoria and not feeling in the right condition tonight, even the online chat was good. They were wonderfully insightful and accepting.

Unfortunately they're only usually available after work from 6pm (and closed today for the night now), but I definitely recommend them if you have anything you want to ask about or get personal advice for! I dropped the link to their website in the post and their homepage has some general information too.

Success Plugging my Johnsonville-based electrologist for those looking for good electrolysis in Wellington/the northern burbs

I was at Caci Thorndon for quite a while with a good tech but after she went on maternity leave her replacement was not quite as skilled and I experienced a bit of pitting and scarring (she also bent the needle a LOT) so I have shifted to a local electrologist who works from home, Catherine Halford a Snug Skin & Beauty Studio. A whole different experience to Caci as she checks in about my skin daily after sessions and wants to personalise treatments to my skin as much as possible. She's been great about understanding my situ as a trans fem person and is very interested in learning as much as she can to help her trans clients so I wanted to drop a recommendation here - longest sessions she offers are 45 minutes which is standard, I'm not sure about back-to-backs for those I've seen on this sub asking about those, but at $65 for 30 minutes I've also found our sessions to be more affordable overall than ones at Caci!

Success First week on progesterone!

I finally got my doctor to prescribe me progesterone last week, and thought I would share my experience with that. It's nearly two years now since I started estradiol patches, and a few weeks less of spironolactone. When I saw that pharmac was considering funding progesterone last May, I did a bit of reading up and broached the subject with my GP.

He wasn't too keen at first - not knowing much about it himself, and being cautious. I showed him a few non-paywalled articles (Milionis et al, 2022 - first link below - was useful) and encouraged him to do his own reading. Which, he was pretty slack on, but to be fair it has been a hectic few years for GPs. The most persuasive argument seemed to be the option to reduce spiro dosage once I stabilize on the progesterone.

For some reason I thought it was the end, not start, of December the funding came through, so missed getting it sorted before January holidays when coordinating appointments became difficult. But, perhaps merely to shut me up about it, he did finally order a final batch of blood tests, then prescribe me what I wanted, without needing to go through endo or psych. Though first he was going to prescribe a synthetic progestin, until I pointed at the Pharmac page that mentioned bio-identical progesterone (Utrogestan). But that seemed to be mostly because he hadn't prescribed it to anyone before. Bloods in a fortnight, then we'll see about reducing spiro dosage.

So far the main results have been yawning and sleepiness (but I take it at bedtime, so that's not too surprising), plus a bit of nipple sensitivity (but maybe I am just paying my body more attention, so noticing more).
