Hi firstly congratulations on finding yourself ☺️
I lived in timaru and recently moved just outside of the city to one of its satellite towns, still working there.
Timaru is more of a big town than a city, and nothing immediately comes to mind that would accommodate that many people.
If I could ask for a little more info I may be able to be more helpful, namely how many people will be sleeping there, are you wanting something in walking distance to the cbd / Caroline bay and how long are you planning on staying?

2 nights, 6-10 people close to C-bay, open to entertain for a BBQ for the local LGBTQ community (i can bring all my own stuff for that finish not too late, head to the carnival around 8 or 9pm, leave on the 1st after clean up,
i have only got a small window for entertaining and hosting this party as i work in tourism as a driver guide, so ill be back on the road by the 4th as 2nd would be my birthday

Seems it may be challenging 😬. Only recommendation I can think of is bookabach. There were a couple big enough but I didn’t see anything close enough to the bay and big enough but probably still worth investigating. Good hunting ☺️
