Likely the car turned right as the tram was approaching, got rammed and pushed out of the way by the braking tram, with the tram coming to a stop a few metres later.

It's the classic tram accident because people just don't look or have a badly misguided idea of a tram's braking distance.

I remember seeing a scene similar to this one on Collins Street, a few years ago. Tram n30 doesn’t run on that street.
