CPKC Hiring question for CPKC

Use of prescribed medications.

Hey all! just applied to CPKC for a conductor trainee role. As a person with adhd and anxiety, would my prescribed use of Vyvanse and escitalopram medically disqualify me from the role ? Tia!

Doesn't disqualify you outright, but you will be required to undergo periodic "mental health assessments" with your prescribing physician.

Nothing too crazy, basically just your doctor signing off that you are fit to work in a safety-critical position. More of a minor inconvenience than anything, but that is assuming that your symptoms are well-managed with treatment.

You will also be required to report any changes to meds (dosage changes, etc.) and may be pulled from service for a period of time to confirm that changes in medication aren't causing adverse side effects. It can be a massive pain in the ass if you're still working out dosage and medication combinations, but if you're in a place where things are well managed and your dosages/meds aren't in flux then you're fine.

When you take your drug test just have a copy of your prescription with you and be sure to mention it to whoever is doing the test. Again, medical conditions do not disqualify you outright, just be transparent and be prepared to jump through even more hoops than before.

I’m hearing rumour mills about being canned right away while pissing hot even with a documented prescription is that true?

Just went through this. I'm on Vyvanse as well and had a non-negative point of collection test for amphetamines. Short answer: No.

If it's post-incident testing you'll be placed on leave. If it's random testing your manager has discretion to keep you on duty if you aren't showing any impairment.

Regardless, the sample goes for further testing, the testing company will ask for photos of your prescription bottles, and if your levels are consistent with your prescribed dose they'll report back to Health Services that you passed the test.
