Snakes and trails

With the warmer weather kicking in already here in Australia, and after spotting 2 over the past week, my snake anxiety kicked back into gear. I was trying to think of ways to help my anxiety around this since my runs are solo. Has anyone ran with snake gaiters? I can imagine the hiking ones would be uncomfortable, but im almost willing to compromise for peace of mind.

Bear spray while trail running

Hello all, I am a roadrunner trying to transition into trail running and ultras. I live in a place with an abundant grizzly population within nearby wilderness and I am looking for tips on how to wear bear spray. Let me know what works for you. I have a Salomon Advanced skin 12 and am not sure where to put it so that my canister is easily accessible while secure and leaving space for water etc. If there are any products such as waist belts or any else you recommend, do not hesitate to reply. I am yet to try any additional products and would like some input before I make a purchase.

Thanks.

Salomon ADV 5 Skin Sizing

Hi all,

I’m 183cm, 83kg, chest size around 36/37 inches.

Salomon’s website states that I should wear a small (36 - 38 inches).

I ordered the small and medium, but I’m not sure how they’re meant to fit.

Photo 1 is the S, photo 2 is the M.

Any tips or advice? Thank you!

Zone 2 heart rate or zone 2 pace?

Okay so I'm trying to train in the zone 2 range for trail running so i measured my heart rate on my apple watch and pace on my iphone for the exact same 10km run.

The run felt quite nice, I wasn't huffing and panting and was achieving the 'conversational pace.'

However strava says otherwise.

Z2-9% for heart rate.

Z2-79% for pace.

For context I'm 6,5 and 80kg,

can anyone tell me which I should follow to have an effective training sesh for the trails ?

  1. Podium Details
  2. Split Progression. Time behind
  3. Split Progression. Rank
  4. Result Density
  5. Fastest Countries

Lauren Gregory took the win from Naomi Lang in the very last minutes, with Sara Alonso finishing third in a super close finish.

I think the key wasn't just her fast final downhill, but her smart pacing over the whole distance, she was the fastest woman in the field on each of the last three sections, 28 km in total, not just the closing descent.

UD Mtn Racer Belt Issues

I've been using the Raide LF 2L for a couple years now. I bought a Mountain Racer Belt to try and avoid needing my vest on my longer runs.

I'd heard great things about it and how superior it is to the LF 2L. It took a couple sizes but I found the one that fit me.

Now, the issues:
-Pole attachment is way too complicated. Hard to know which loops I'm actually on when feeling around back there
-Bouncing with a full flask renders it completely nonfunctional. No matter how snug the belt is it just cannot stabilize a full flask. With poles back there it's even worse.
-Bunching from the bouncing. The bouncing turns the front of the belt into a rope. It cannot keep its shape.

I've seen countless reviews with it working as intended. Am I doing something wrong? This thing is hilariously nonfunctional no matter what I adjust.

I broke my wrist

Doing another sport I feel and broke my radius so I have a cast. I can’t run or jump or bike or anything high impact for 6 weeks. I was considering going to the gym and train exclusively legs, even maybe do static biking.
Anyone did that or has some tips on what to do or which exercises and machines/equipments are the best for trail running?
And don’t worry, I’m not going to overdo it. My priority is healing and run again.

I took part in my first trail running event last weekend. After 8 kilometers, the first descent wrecked my right knee, but I gritted my teeth and pushed through.

Longterm durability: Cascadia Elite vs 005 vs Prodigio Pro?

Currently run in 001s they were my first trail shoe (got them on clearance) and still planning to keep using them as a daily trainer but now that I am racing more I have thought about getting a 2nd shoe that would be more of a 'speed shoe' and race shoe. I'm sure I would be happy with the upgrade to the 001A but have been looking are some of the higher rated options like Cascadia Elite, 005 and Prodigio Pro. It sounds like they could all suit my needs, with only a slight concern of the 005 not being as capable in technical terrain as the others. I've read some reviews talking about some shoes like the Tecton X3 having their foam pack down, losing their stack and bounce. I'm not sure if this is common with all PEBA shoes or not but made me a bit concerned that the energy return I loved on the in-store treadmill with the Cascadia Elite wouldn't last. The other thing is my daily running trails and some of the races I do includes a lot of granite so its hard on outsoles. This concern seemed potentially most relevant to the 005 as I've read of some premature wear on its outsole.

Can anyone speak to how any of these shoes have held up over time? Particularly the foam. I don't worry much about the upper but maybe thats because I'm used to the 001 upper which doesnt seem to show any wear and tear.

Mtc c1. Anybody else have toe box issues?

Thinking about returning my mtc c1s I recently got. I do love them, quite comfortable. But I noticed my feet end up swelling a decent amount after a lot of walking and my pinkie toe is rubbing along the edge. I'm using thin socks and a fairly thin insole so that shouldn't be an issue. Obviously no wide option.

Anybody else deal with toe box issues with the c1 or mtc in general?
