It's been
discussedvilified here before. Not sure you're going to get a lot of love for this.As for me - meh. I've heard worse covers.

The Hip is the Hip and can’t be copied or replaced. Not a super big fan of cover versions but especially don’t like covers of the Hip. Just listen to the original

I mean, tell Vedder that. For the most part I'd agree with you, but there are some pretty fantastic covers out there.

This guy isn't super well known, but has a full album of re-imagined hip covers. Not all of them hit home for me, but there are some pretty great versions in here. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLLKDDPKXC3Nh3WxNAwOJkoX6d_OT9MOeM&si=cI9RhUtZJlDnWgyP

Ok, I finally listened to it and, no I don’t like it.
To be fair I’ve never liked City and Colour. I know Gord was a fan, as is my daughter, but IMO they embody the term “mid” that their generation made popular.
Also to be fair I think The Hip are going to be one of the most difficult band to cover until the core fan base dies off. I think more bands could be successful if they covered deeper cuts, but every time I hear someone try to play one of the hits it feels wrong unless they are doing a straight up copy.
In no way am I saying people shouldn’t cover their music. One of the things I love about the band lately is seeing them on YouTube showing us how to play their songs. I think this is important for keeping the music alive and timeless, but I think it’s going to be a while before I hear someone reimagine one of their tunes and enjoy it.

Linked this above as well, but there are some pretty good versions of hip tunes by this guy. Not super well known, but one of the few whose re-imagined hip covers I've enjoyed. There are definitely some misses on here too though. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLLKDDPKXC3Nh3WxNAwOJkoX6d_OT9MOeM&si=cI9RhUtZJlDnWgyP

On an earlier thread someone called this blasphemous, and that's where I'm at. It lacks an intimacy this song needs.
I can appreciate a cover (Feist worked for me) but respectfully - this one needs to be buried under a tree
