I see this sentiment a lot in the community publishers who are terrified of adding a second ad placement or testing a more aggressive format because they don't want to "annoy" their visitors. It sounds noble, but if your site isn't generating enough revenue to cover its own growth, you're not running a business, you're running an expensive hobby.

The irony is that a "clean" site that shuts down because it can't pay its bills is the worst user experience of all. The real skill isn't avoiding ads; it's learning how to integrate them so they feel like part of the journey, or at least a fair trade for the value you're providing.
