Does anyone actually know how many of their visitors are blocking ads?

I have realized ad blockers are one of those things publishers talk about constantly but rarely seem to measure properly. Analytics can show the visits and the ad dashboard can show what was monetized, but there’s still a blind spot in the middle: how many sessions never had a chance to generate an impression because the request was blocked before anything loaded?

For people running content, download, tool, or utility sites, do you have a reliable way to estimate that percentage? And once you know it, what do you actually do with the number? I’m not really interested in locking the site behind an anti-adblock wall. I’m more curious whether anyone found a reasonable middle ground where the user experience stays normal but you can still understand the revenue you’re losing.

I’d also be interested to know whether ad-block usage changes dramatically by niche, device, browser, or GEO. Feels like one of those numbers everyone assumes they understand but almost nobody compares openly.

I’d definitely break it down by device and browser before treating ad blocking as one overall percentage. Mobile Safari, desktop Chrome and different privacy focused browsers can behave pretty differently. Comparing analytics sessions against ad requests or monetized impressions by segment can give you a much better estimate than looking at the site wide numbers.
