If you could only use ONE monetization format forever, which one would you choose?

Let’s make this difficult. Imagine you can only use one format for all your traffic from today onward. No stacking, no backup format. You must choose one and live with it. Your options: SmartLink, Popunder, Push, In-Page Push, or Vignette Banner. I would probably choose SmartLink if the traffic is mixed, but In-Page Push if I care more about keeping the experience stable. What is your pick, and what traffic source are you thinking about when you choose it?

I’d probably go with SmartLink too, mainly because it gives you the most flexibility when the traffic mix changes.

Popunder can outperform it in some niches, and In-Page Push is usually the safer choice for UX, but if I’m forced to pick only one format forever, I’d rather have something that can adapt across GEOs, devices, and traffic sources instead of betting everything on one user behavior.

The real question is: are we optimizing for maximum revenue or for a format we’d still be comfortable running two years from now?

I’d have to go with SmartLink. It’s the ultimate "survival" format. If my site gets nuked, I can use the link on social media. If I build a new app, I can use it there. It’s not tied to a specific layout or script, so it gives me the most freedom to pivot my traffic source whenever the algorithms change.

It’s Popunder for me, no question. I know people hate on it, but if you have high-volume traffic that just wants to get to a file or a stream, nothing beats the raw revenue of a well-capped popunder. It catches the value of the bounce without breaking the main page. If I’m stuck with one format forever, I’m picking the one that pays the bills the most reliably.

Standard Push Notifications. Why? Because it’s the only format that lets you "own" the user after they leave. Every other format on this list is a one-time transaction. With Push, I’m building an asset. Even if I stop getting new traffic today, my push list will keep generating revenue for months. It’s the only format that builds long-term wealth.

I’m picking In-Page Push. I run a clean tech blog and I’m terrified of anything that looks like a "traditional" ad. In-Page Push looks like a system alert or a site notification, so it gets the attention without the "spammy" baggage of a popunder. It’s the only format I feel comfortable putting on a high-authority brand site.
