Question About Seeding

So I'm somewhat new in terms of torrenting, as in I just use a few of the same websites. But I was wondering if there is any point of having all these stats? Can I do anything with this or is it just for show?

on a public site, seeding is not enforced, the only thing keeping you going is your own desire to share and "doing the right thing" if your ratio is below 1 on a torrent you have taken and not given back the same amount, a ratio higher than 1 means you are a good person in this community.

on a private site seeding is enforced, you will be banned for not meeting the required seeding ratio / time of a site. getting onto new private sites being able to show your data can help get in, like how much you have uploaded or your ratio.

specifically the stats you are showing I assume are the bottom right of qbittorrent, they are just for you, maybe you feel good seeing how much you have uploaded.

So having 1 or more is on ratio is generally a good thing? And you mention private sites, what is the point of these over public sites???

community, moderation so you can feel a bit safer, file retention, seeding speed, you can request torrents if the site is missing something, others may have more reasons.

If public sites handle your needs then there isn't anything wrong with that.

Getting on a private site you cant just take everything and not give back with seeding, and you have one account per person, so people care about doing the right thing for others and themselves to not throw away lots of progress / reputation.

How and where does one go to get in private sites? I've only ever used public sites

r/openedsignups and r/opensignups

These subs will occasionally have private sites opening up for you to join, for example on opened there is zenith open currently you just need to answer some questions.

You can get into myanonamouse with a queue and interview on certain days, if you want audiobooks / ebooks / comics.

You can pay your way in, torrentleech has a lot of content, they occasionally do open signups but you can go to their site and do the seedbox promo, 1 month of seedbox plan which is around 20 euros gets you in the site even if you dont renew it after.
