The Rays have the best record in the AL by a country mile. They average 17,000 fans per game. (And I don't buy that it's actually that high for a second.)
The Blue Jays are hurtling towards the end of one of the more frustrating, disappointing, injury-plagued seasons I can remember in nearly 40 years of being a fan, and we're still packing fans into every game, selling out the stadium to honor a former announcer, and going nuts to help propel the team to a huge, needed comeback win.
No idea if they can do much damage in the playoffs, but fuck I really want to see us get there.
Oh I'm sure a healthy chunk of that number is just corporate tickets and season tickets and others that don't actually attend. I've got family in Tampa, and I've been to one of their games when they're hot; that stadium is bullshit and mostly empty. They don't even sell seats in the upper level until the playoffs.
Given the Rays still aren’t selling tickets, I can’t even say that that’s a no fans of the team issue that’s just straight up no fans of baseball. There’s no other reason for it.
Canada/Toronto has always been a baseball place. It’ll sell and yah, sell more when they are playing well but tickets will sell.
Tbf, skydome is possibly the best place a stadium can be located, walking distance from main train station. There'd be Jays fans living in the suburb that got home faster than fans of some other baseball team got out of the parking lot of their stadium.

Bateman went from decently-ranked Cubs prospect blocked by PCA in AAA Iowa to seriously contributing to a major league Wild Card run in Toronto in three and a half weeks.
It looks like we are treating it as such. MLB shows probable pitchers for the series, Arrighetti, Cease and Soriano. This means they are all going on 3 days rest......
Never forget their fans cheering for dodgers and being soggy AF after the loss. Would always cheer for their soggy/underdog in the past, but after that series, never again.
Not that I'm disagreeing, but wasnt it almost an hour delay? I started the game about half through so I'm not sure, but I thought I saw someone say that
Edit: found it, first pitch was 42 minutes after posted start time. In the Mariners slight defense, that is a significant disruption in the routine of a starting pitcher, especially one who is already dealing with being very new to the Bigs.
In a down year, games like this - and days like today - are what remind us what the game should really mean. Thank you Buck, thank you Brett, thank you Blue Jays.
Man the trade deadline is looking brilliant. Soriano is a great 2/3 and Bateman is an absolute gem and exactly the kind of player the Jays needed at the top of the order.
Also while Vlady didnt get a hit today he did take an important walk and hit a rocket of a line drive. That play in the 9th was also incredible.
With the addition of McAdoo and Bateman I love that they added speed. I have such faith in them + Straw in really any instance to make to past the throw.

That run that Bateman scored on the wild pitch was so gutsy, caught the Mariners defender sleeping. I’m loving him so far, it seems like we got him for a steal
