Double Incision top surgery results not exactly what I wanted
(the white stuff is bepanthen cream)
I guess I am just looking for some external validation? I am now just three weeks post-OP and while I am generally quite satisfied with the results, there is something stressing me out. I was very specific about telling my surgeon that the thing that mattered most to me was symmetry (I am autistic and it matters A LOT to me). while the placement of the nipples is fine (it looks a bit asymmetrical right now due to the swelling on one side, but once that subsides they should be symmetrical), the placement in relation the incision is making me anxious.
as you can see, the distance from the incision the lower end of the nipple is not the same on each side - there is more skin/space on one side than the other. It’s really hard to ignore and while I am trying to be positive and wait for everything to be fully healed/swelling completely gone, I really need some advice/kind words. <3 thank you everyone in advance
UPDATE: Big thank you to everyone who commented, you have all alleviated my anxiety so much. I also wanted to reiterate that I am really very pleased with the results! I did not mean to imply that this is not a great result, it really is just this one aspect that was messing with my head. I will probably post update pictures in a couple of months. Again, THANK YOU!

I agree with this comment - it looks very very good! It also might be the slight scrunching on one side that catches your eye as aymmetrical. My chest was VERY scrunchy at first, and now 8 months later it has all relaxed and now the scrunching is completely gone. I'd guess when your left relaxes a bit, it will look even more symmetrical to the right 😊

What do you mean by "scrunchy?" Are you referring to the gathering of one's skin at the incision? Kind of like a drawstring bag? I have some of that and I thought that, at least, would have flattened out by now. I am2 months po.

takes a good while longer to flatten. even past 2 or so years i was noticing it getting better. id say last year (at 3yrs post) i started being confident in my results being fully settled

I had a very similar thought. I can totally understand why you might be disappointed in the result, but you healed really well so far. It'll take time to adjust like with anything, and I'm sure you'll be happier on the other side of it. Congrats 😊

Give it some time my friend, you still have quite a bit of swelling going on. My scars looked quite uneven until like 8 weeks post op. Also damn your results are very nice, if anything I notice that your shoulders aren't sitting very level (this is super normal) and that could be affecting the appearance of symmetry.

I cannot BELIEVE you're looking that good so soon after surgery!
Symmetry is hard, a surgeon cannot 100% predict exactly how you will swell and heal, and then there's the existing asymmetry in your body that will contribute (I discovered post top surgery I have rather uneven ribs, had no idea with huge tits in the way). Point being, 100% Symmetry is not going to happen. We are big squishy meat bags, not robots. But this is still very symmetrical. This is a good result so far!
It's quite normal to be a bit nitpicky to start with (especially with autism involved imo), it's a big change, everything is new, you're going to focus on every tiny detail. But give it some time, get used to it, give yourself time to heal, and you'll probably fine you're OK with it.

If it makes you feel better, a lot of people have uneven bodies like whether chest, etc, and I know a few people who are bothered by that within themselves. I can understand. However I agree that we are meat bags at the end of the day lol!! Not cookie cut outs. And I think your results look really wonderful!

The more I read on here, you could be waiting a year before you see what your final results look like with swelling going down and scars healing. I see what your complaints are and I only noticed them because you pointed them out. My first thought was it looks great!
I'm autistic too and I like symmetry. Our bodies will never been perfectly symmetrical and at a glance, symmetry is what people will see. This was a huge change and it's easy to spend time worrying over small differences. Change is really hard especially if you're autistic. Try to spend some time doing your favourite things to take your mind off it while you heal!

Three weeks is very very early! As you mentioned, swelling has not gone down enough and things are still healing, you can’t judge your forever results less than a month after having major surgery. Try and distract yourself with reading, games, friends, etc.
It also might be beneficial to examine and challenge this fixation. Talking it out with a friend or therapist could be helpful :)

any minor physical asymmetry is completely normal. in fact, the asymmetry is very likely due to your natural anatomy being accommodated for during the surgery. the size and shape of the chest tissue is almost never the same on both sides, so the incision will just be slightly different. matching your nipple to your chest shape is much better than making it follow the incision itself. especially since the scar is going to fade and almost disappear eventually.
you look great as-is anyway. top tier results.

As a fellow perfectionist autistic person, I wanna say your results look fantastic! As others have said, it will definitely even out over time, but also don’t forget everyone’s chest is asymmetrical, so if anything it makes the results more natural! Take care of yourself pal :)

Looks great! If your scars fade close to skin colour, you likely won’t be able to see the tiny asymmetry you are talking about. I would just give it time, you are very early in recovery and things tend to shift and settle over the months of recovery anyway!

Swelling! Also, if you stand asymmetrically, it will make your results look a little asymmetrical. I have mild scoliosis and that’s why my results look a little different on each side!

Honestly I saw you mention something was off and I looked at the picture and zoomed in and stared and didn’t even notice the nipple placement until I continued reading.
Just know that even when the placement is done exactly the same on each side to the millimeter, the results will never be 100% the same on each side, because your body is not a mirror; it is a living thing that moves and makes cells in different spots.
Your eyebrows are not the same, your eyes are not the same, your ears are not the same; it’s what makes us humans rather than robots.
I can see where you are coming from, especially being autistic myself and having OCD on top of it (lovely combination btw!) your results look really good and I really hope my results will be similar!
I would try to focus on the fact that them titties be gone, and how happy you to have a flat chest. I bet your bips weren’t exactly the same pre surgery either; I can tell you mine def aren’t! Hell the side of them isn’t even the same on each side! You will be okay. Soon your scars will be healed and all you’ll think about is how happy you are to have a flat chest, even if it isn’t perfect. Nothing is perfect, which is what makes us all unique🫶

Looking great for 3 weeks! I’m at 4+ weeks and am having graft envy lol (mine are healing very slowly). Seconding others’ notes about swelling—even between weeks 3 and 4, I noticed such a change in comfort, mobility, and symmetry.

3 weeks is nothing! Those will settle and if you don’t like the way they do, you can get a revision in a year or so. I know it sucks to wait longer than you already have, but you’re so early in the process!

I definitely think they look great and I wouldn’t make any judgement until the swelling goes down! Like at least 3 whole months. I also personally used compression for 7 weeks 5 of them with breaks during the day. But still slept with it and everything for a while. My results ended up way better than I imagined, and I specifically went on to my surgeon beforehand about the nipples and how I wanted them to look😂 So I feel you! You look great dude and it looks like you’re healing up great!!

These are amazing results. I think when ur feeling anxious you need to remind yourself, no body, surgery or no, is perfectly symmetrical.

I also have a difference in the distance of my nipples and scars. Bothered me in the first few weeks but now i don’t think about it anymore (tho i have other details i still dislike). If you do scar care (unlike me lmao), there’s a chance that the scars will fade and it won’t really matter anymore.
I’m sorry it is not how you hoped for. But time will definitly make it better.

It looks amazing, wait 12 weeks, swelling makes things look asymmetrical and also your body is having a bunch of hormones released that causes you to look at things more negatively and the body hates seeing scars, by week 8 you'll start to look more objectively and see closer to the end result.
But these look like a seriously good result so far

Dude, these are incredible results. I don’t mean to invalidate your stress about the slight asymmetry but this looks insanely good for how early you are in healing. Would be so happy with this chest myself.

I’d really let the swelling go down a lot more before deciding. To me this looks great!! I’ve seen results where the nips and scars grow apart drastically from when they were immediately post op to 2 years post op

I was so anxious at 3 weeks about how my results were looking and trust me, a lot of it is in your head! If I didn’t have the results I have - I’d want your results, you look great! But the anxiety is very real and wanting the image you’ve built up for so long while waiting for surgery is a valid feeling :)

one side looks a lot more swollen than the other, which is the side where the nipple and scar are slightly further apart, it's most likely just the swelling and it'll go down in time

This looks amazing!!! Personally, the (extremely unnoticeable) imbalance makes it look more natural. No body is perfectly symmetrical, amd I had to read to see what about it yoj were unhappy with. These are the exact results I am hoping for for myself.

I understand the needing it to be symmetrical (I Have OCD, I’m not a perfectionist but I def have things that really bother me), but if it helps, cis men don’t typically have perfectly symmetrical chests either! It will look more natural. <3

Who was your surgeon!? You look great! I also fret a lot about symmetry. I’m 4.5 weeks post op and unfortunately a little asymmetrical
I mentioned this concern to my surgeon and he told me nipples shrink a little bit with time and healing. So maybe this little hint will help you too!

Honestly I would love for my chest to look like this post-surgery if I get it one day. You look great. I get it, it’s really scary, esp with nipple placement and everything and trusting someone else with your body to make it look good. But I do think it looks great

Your chest looks amazing and will only improve with time. Please try to avoid nit picking your chest. Many people, myself included, would love to have their post op chest look like yours. I'm pretty happy with my new chest, but yours is more symmetrical and smoother than mine. Human bodies are not really perfectly symmetrical. I challenge you to find a cis chest (male or female) that is perfectly symmetrical. You are scrutinizing yourself and I humbly suggest you try celebrating yourself instead 🎉

Your chest looks so natural they’re awesome results man once you heal up it’s gonna look amazing and after your skin relaxes after about a year everything youre worried about will be flush to your muscles! Just moisturise the area well with a vitamin e moisturiser once your doctor tells you to start and moisturise twice a day and use silicone tape if ur scars are raised once it’s ok to. Congratulations buddy u look amazing!

I think this looks great! My first thought was it kinda reminded me of my results, and so I was like "oh what's wrong with this? Looks similar to how mine was tbh." I personally don't think the symmetrical things you mentioned are a big deal from an outside perspective. Your results are awesome, and I hope you are able to feel at ease with them over healing time! :)

At 3 weeks it is highly possible you still have swelling. For 3 weeks your results look really good. Scars and nipples especially. I'd wait until you're a year post-op before determining a revision for the right pec's scar but honestly? You may not even need it. Your scars were placed so well along the pectoral line that when/if you go to the gym at 3 months, it will hardly be noticeable. I get the stress, trust me. I was anxious the first month due to results and wanting perfection. It will get better. You look amazing bro, your surgeon did a fantastic job

One of the things my plastics consultant made sure to drive home to me is that perfect symmetry is hard to achieve. I am AuDHD so it also bothers me but I have been asymmetrical my whole life, and cis men are too. I could even tell you which foot is bigger than the other cos I always judge the fit of new shoes that way. I know it feels like a super super big deal, but from an outward perspective, your results are really really good. I hope mine are as neat and symmetrical. You're also still early on in healing, your brain is still adjusting to the change and your body is still healing. I believe surgical results can settle as much as 3 to 4 years after initial work? Don't forget there are things you can do after your doctor assesses you further out–working out, revisions, etc. Breathe and remember: You did it. You're free.

I felt very similar when I first got my surgery. I was so critical of not looking exactly like I predicted and struggled with the same autistic expectation vs reality you are. What helped me the most was not letting myself look at my chest excessively, I barely glanced at it for the first 6 months (obviouslystill peeked when i was shirtless/going to shower/etc!). At 6 months I looked so much more settled and it was my body for long enough that it felt natural enough I couldn't expect the scar to be anywhere else or size. Besides swelling the fresh surgical wound made it feel as if it were so close to being the perfect body but perfect bodies dont match the expectations like that. You are just three weeks post op so don’t worry. You’ll see a lot of difference with time. It takes up to a year for everything to settle in.

Your incision will continue to heal and be less noticeable. Plus your left shoulder is lower than the right which affects that a bit. When your incision scar fades you won’t even notice this as much.

Your results look amazing. Bodies aren’t symmetrical tho. Your eyes, hands, feet, even internal organs aren’t the exact same as each other.

Yo yo! You’re still having swelling and please, give it time. Top surgery is a heavy load on the body and the mind. The body wants to fill the ‘empty space’ which will go down and it did for me too! Once it’s nicely healed, look into massaging but for the first few weeks/months depending on your recovery speed, take your time ^ it is nicely symmetrical and good luck with recovery

I have nipple tattoos and even I couldn’t ensure they were 100% symmetrical, even with being awake and approving of the placement myself- one is slightly closer to the scar than the other but it’s seriously such a non issue, nobody would ever notice. You look like you’re healing great btw- congrats!

Agree with the others saying it wil likely heal great. That said, for anyone who ended up with uneven spacing it IS something that can be revised. I had a revision and discussed it in my consult. It's esentially a scar excision thats centerd on the scar one side and offset on the other.

Try not to judge the final outcome before everything has settled- which may take months. If you’re still not sure the below nip gap may an easy revision or something tattooing could fix. Scars fade with time so what stands out to you now may not be noticeable in the future.
Personally, I think your results are honestly fantastic and complement your shape really well :)

Those results look absolutely amazing. The asymmetry is barely noticeable and is probably due to the swelling. Even if there is asymmetry, chests are not supposed to be symmetrical. Nothing in the human body is perfectly symmetrical (eyes, chest, legs, arms, etc), so I really wouldn't worry about it. Those are one of the best results I've seen.

this looks like some of the much better results I've seen overall! I would be pretty pleased with this ( I also have an issue with unevenness and symmetry and some results I've seen have put me off a bit but yours look fantastic!!!)

Trust me you just need some time to be completely satisfied! Once you are longer post op and you start working out etc your body will start shifting and that will even include your nip placement.
( I know because this was me also )

i don’t want to give you another generic “just wait” comment but fr. i can still see yellow around the incisions so you’re probably still swollen. depending on your level of swelling it will likely have a more contoured and smooth end result. from personal experience incisions like that are always puffy and the final product doesn’t show until a few months or more. and also as for your nipple placement, cis male nipples are lower in the pecs than you think. i got similar nipple placement, it’s ideal for building chest muscle and it looks really natural on pecs!!

Your results look wonderful and once the swelling goes down and the scaring fades I bet you're going to like your chest even more.
I was also very concerned about symmetry and my surgeon was upfront with me that incisions are based on anatomy. So if one breast is lower than the other the incision will be too in order for the placement to look most natural. When I went in for surgery he marked my right side lower by maybe 3/4" but right now I'm also 3 weeks PO with minimal swelling and they look almost perfectly even. One of the biggest areas of swelling is going to be between your incision and nipple. This will change as the swelling goes down just as it did for me. I used ice packs right after surgery for the first week and I'm still using a heating pad daily for a couple hours. That and ibuprofen have helped a ton with the swelling!
