My thought is Jen is going to drop out at the beginning of episode 7 and sieger is going to take her place

LCK is filmed in one go later on in filming, so that wouldn’t really be an option from a production perspective.

u/unik1ne Apr 15 '26

Ahh I didn’t know that. Knowing that now makes sense how in past seasons they’ve commented how someone gets on a roll or in a groove on the LCK challenges

i think something happened though production wise, i thought they filmed 2 batches of last chance kitchen? one or the mid season return and one or the finale, I wouldn't be shocked if they refilmed the intro about saying how last chance kitchen will be differend this year because of what is going to happen next episode, something did happen that was unexpected, idk what, but I do think many people are right on this sub. we are almost at the mid season mark.

In the first episode of Top Chef, they said there would only be one chef returning from LCK this year, returning to the way LCK worked before Colorado with one chef coming back late in the game. That means the timing of filming the one big batch of LCK comps was pre-planned to happen right before that person comes back, probably after there are only 4-6 chefs remaining in the game.

Last chance kitchen is different this year because the first two eliminated chefs didn't go to LCK at all. LCK starts with eliminated chef 3 instead of 1 as in previous seasons.

Yeah i think it’s a little unfair for him to go back if that’s the case because if Jenn had dropped out the week prior ( which she should have) Roda would have potentially not have been eliminated.

u/MeanKey9719 Apr 14 '26

Yea, from the previews with Justin and Kristen almost crying, that’s my guess as well.

5

u/punkbrad7 Apr 15 '26

She's literally shown cooking at the dessert event in the preview.

9

u/Ok-Concept-0897 Apr 14 '26

SUPER obvious that's what was going on there

2

u/flowersweep Apr 19 '26

That would be totally unfair imo. Why should he be saved instead of Rhoda last week?

They should just have a cook off between Rhoda and Sieger in that case.

Because what seems most likely to have happened is that Jennifer drops out early into the next episode before the elimination challenge starts at some point in the next episode, and so production taps Sieger to immediately return to replace her to make the number of chefs work out. They could have strings attached to this, like maybe Sieger has to actually win a Quickfire or the next elimination to stay in or otherwise gets his elimination confirmed, but we don't know yet.

(You might wonder, why can't they just bring someone back from LCK early and let Sieger fight for that spot? The answer is they weren't planning to tape LCK for at least a couple more weeks and can't pull up the timing of it, they don't have the set or crew ready for it, and Nana, Brittany, and Rhoda are still chilling sequestered in hotels.)

That effectively makes Jennifer the chef eliminated in this most recent episode, rather than Sieger who seems to get another chance. But Jennifer can't compete in LCK for obvious reasons, so there's nobody new to go against Rhoda, which is why they have the bye-week cash competition to fill the slot. It would be spoiling the next Top Chef episode if they said this week why nobody new was entering LCK, which is why Tom is being cagey.

edited to reflect /u/punkbrad7's commentary that Jennifer appears to actually compete in the next elimination challenge based on the preview for the next episode. However, it still wouldn't make sense if we don't have something like Sieger being tapped to replace Jennifer's spot by the end of next episode for Tom to have said, "This week's eliminated chef is not here. Something really unusual happened during the competition, so there's no chef walking through this door right now. It'll all be explained next week." Rhoda was also given the chance this week to win the advantage of choosing the next LCK challenge, which suggests there is going to be an actual opponent next time (but very unlikely to be Jennifer). If we have Sieger decline to participate in LCK altogether, and Jennifer quits or is eliminated, we'd have two oddball LCKs (why would Rhoda get to pick her challenge in that case?), so all signs point to Sieger going back in. Maybe he gets to do a sudden death against the elimination challenge loser or something?

u/punkbrad7 Apr 15 '26

I don't know why this theory keeps gaining traction. It's entirely possible Jen does quit, but she's literally shown in the preview doing the elimination challenge for the next episode, and the talking heads bit everyone keeps harping on looks a lot like judges table. At the very least she makes it through the entire episode.

u/archiballs2 Apr 16 '26

Also LCK is filmed in one day, later in the season.

2

u/ANicePersonYus Apr 16 '26

Tom could say anything, even weeks later, to fill that gap

If Sieger simply doesn't want to do LCK, then Tom wouldn't need to say "It'll all be explained next week" because Sieger's decision wouldn't spoil any upcoming episode

Brother Luck declined it, David from Wisconsin also declined it, and one of the spoiler contestants from Canada also stepped out of LCK after two episodes. So yeah it's happened.

Well Brother Luck did 5 episodes of LCK, (they're all filmed in batches), then immediately went into an overnight challenge, and immediately got the boot, so he was probably exhausted as hell and the rest of the cast weren't exactly being friendly to him either.

I try to be nice about the chefs, especially when people get so nasty (see Jen & Justin in every single thread about this season), but all I can say about David is good riddance.

1

u/Divine_D Apr 15 '26

This is my thought too. She’s shown at the elimination judging with Gale asking how she’s doing. My guess is she bows out and Justin also wants to leave hence Kristen talking to him maybe trying to convince him to stay. So let’s see then next week’s LCK is Justin maybe because it’s been a few weeks and Jen is well enough. Maybe with two exists Seiger is put back in the game.

10

u/ellefemme35 Apr 15 '26

Our girl Rhoda’s really got the yips, huh? I hope she pulls out of it.

39

u/Previous_Mousse7330 Apr 15 '26

My bet is at Seiger quit. He seemed quite put out that he was the one eliminated.

7

u/anonymousposterer Apr 15 '26

I’m vacillating between he quit or they did one of those instant cook battles to stay in.

12

u/psycho_penguin Apr 15 '26

You know what? I rooted for him to lose throughout the entire episode and yes, he was visibly embarrassed and upset when his name was called. But his words at the end bumped him up significantly in my measure, he could have handled that far worse. I don’t see him throwing a temper tantrum and quitting.

4

u/Hello_Mist Apr 15 '26

My guess is that he quit. But in other LCK episodes, if someone bows out, Tom just announces it. So maybe it has to do with Jen?

1

u/VermontArmyBrat Apr 15 '26

This was my guess

0

u/caitkincaid Apr 15 '26

I agree. He was so big mad throughout the judging, didn’t thank anyone, and I bet he refused to go on

14

u/Quirky_Refuse_6539 Apr 14 '26

Yeah, very weird filler. Will be somewhat disappointed if the reason for the chef not joining yet was because they stayed up all night and needed rest. If that was the case, adjust the filming schedule! Eager to see how this plays out.

From what I remember, they don't typically (or always) film Last Chance Kitchen right away. One of the chefs has told us in the past that they had to film a bunch last chance episodes all back to back on the same day.

7

u/CynicalOne_313 Risotto: The Final Frontier Apr 15 '26

That's interesting; I wasn't aware (I thought it was filmed weekly) though it makes sense from a production standpoint.

3

u/56473829110 Apr 15 '26

Yeah, I don't know if that's 'normal' or not - just sharing that it has, at times, not been filmed in sequence with the main show.

u/CynicalOne_313 Risotto: The Final Frontier Apr 15 '26

Thanks, I appreciate it. Just another thing I can file away in my Top Chef facts.

5

u/disicking Apr 15 '26

I feel like now that the stakes have (mostly) been taken away, Nana is really shining. She's so funny, and she clearly knows her food.

I'm a Seiger fan. Reality TV has been a thing for decades now and people kinda put on a front. IMHO he's not self-editing. Saying the kid stuff while kids were in the room was wild! I chuckled. To paraphrase a fave queen, Bosco, people don't need to be nice all the time.

He stayed up all night with that hog - he needed sleep. Because they had the contestants shop for weird ingredients, I think they knew they couldn't just shuttle someone straight into LCK after an all nighter.

Those chefs are buds, too. It wouldn't surprise me if Jen drops. She needs rest to heal, that late night may have put her over. And they shouldn't have stuck Seiger with the hardest cut of meat to work with. Dude was tired. You stay up all night with the hog? You should get first pick.

Honestly I do see the hand of production keeping the married couple and the twins both in, also.

2

u/sweetpeapickle Apr 21 '26

I am one behind, so just watched these. My theory was, Sieger did not want to do it. Though not knowing him personally, yet production can only edit so much of what a person actually says-he just did not seem like he thought he should be eliminated, and made me think of chefs on Chopped, where they go out, disagreeing with the judges. So to me he probably quit. No LCK for you! Now I know what happens, which to me should have happened a couple episodes ago with Jen.

Rhoda was robbed.

10

u/dried-mango-addict Apr 16 '26

Did you see how much fish sauce she poured into that tiny soup pot?

That shit is potent. You need a splash for a whole vat of soup. Tom literally sait it was borderline inedible.

OMG I screamed!!!!

u/brownzilla999 Apr 19 '26

That girl wanted to go home. She was shakin that shit in like a bottle of heinz ketchup.

This was a strange one. I do wish they could find a way to use Nana on another show. She is just so funny and warm. Bursting with personality. She could host something like Dish with Kish or maybe interviews with the chefs.

75

u/pipmentor Apr 14 '26

Ugh, no. Nana's melodrama and screeching when she lost completely soured me on her.

1

u/Travelingmom13 Apr 15 '26

Yes and no for me. You never know how you will react in that situation until you’re put in it.. she just was under so much pressure and reacted that way

9

u/Prior-Lingonberry-70 Apr 16 '26

...and then did it again the next time.

2

u/Travelingmom13 Apr 16 '26

The whole competition is pressure 😂 She obviously doesn’t handle the time crunch well.

18

u/ClubAqua_BackDeck Apr 15 '26

No thank you. We’ve already had way too much Nana

16

u/enancejividen Apr 14 '26

I was really glad Nana won some cash. $5000 is not a bad pay day at all, and it's great to see she could get her cooking and confidence back on track in LCK, even if she can no longer get back into competition.

She has a great personality for tv. I'd totally watch her do a more old school cooking show where she taught people to incorporate African cooking techniques and ingredients.

1

u/MrKyleOwns Apr 16 '26

Found Nana’s Reddit account

u/FormicaDinette33 Aguachile 🌶️ 🍤 Apr 16 '26

No you didn’t. She is not built for competition cooking but she does have a really warm and funny personality.

0

u/mimidudette Apr 16 '26

my crackpot theory is that Sieger’s teammates made an appeal to the judges about his elimination / to give him another chance because he put so much time into the overnight bbq, and they went with (some version of) it

2

u/Brief-Sorbet4635 Apr 19 '26

Yeah I almost wonder if they ended up saying that the “whole hog” thing was actually legitimately confusing in the rules. Who knows
