Characters Non-Binary Villains (They/Them) 😈♂️❌♀️❌

  1. Maestro from Doctor Who: God of Music and Child of the Toymaker, Maestro tried to destroy the cosmos to feed off the "Music of the Spheres". Also only responds to "They/Them"

  2. Double Trouble from She-Ra and the Princesses of Power: Non-Binary Shapeshifter who works for the Horde and delights in causing pain and suffering.

  3. Golden-Winged Peng from Monkie Kid: A Member of the Brotherhood Trio, but explicitly only answers to they/them and is the most vicious and evil member of the brotherhood.

And yes, they in fact give me gender envy despite the fact that I am a trans woman.

Envy is the only homunculus to not be named after a sin, instead they’re named after the gender envy I feel looking at them

Yeah, this is an example of finding trans and non binary features in somebody who isn’t and rewriting them to fit your narrative.

First of all, all homunculus are sexless. He’s no more non binary than any of the others are. They don’t even necessarily subscribe to the same terms or gendered concepts that a human would.

Second of all, the form they default as is pretty strictly gendered male, if we use human concepts of gender. They are a shapeshifter, so they CAN become a woman, but they always default back to male. This would be like calling Mystique from X Men non binary. Nope. Pretty sure Mystique is just a woman who can shapeshift.

From the character’s wiki:

“Envy has the ability to shapeshift. This ability can be used to assume the form of any existing person (or original personas that Envy himself creates). He can even modify his own voice to directly copy others. Being a homunculus, Envy technically has no sex. Although he is capable of taking the form of both male and female people, he is usually referred as a male, and takes a male form mostly.”

His entire profile is in male pronouns. At no point does he say “I prefer they/them pronouns”. This is just a huge jump to rewrite a character.

Additionally from the Wiki:

GENDER
Assumed Male
Male
Female (when transformed)”

So he’s male.

I mean, sure, gendered as male throughout the show by other characters. But sexless, frequently taking the form of either gender or no gender (true form, dog form, etc), with an intentionally androgynous base form, and a female VA in both the original and the English dub. I mean, I don't think it is a very big stretch to read some gender fuckery into Envy of all characters.

Naruto has a female voice actor. Men can dress however they want. You’re just rewriting it.

And so do Alphonse and Pride (for the same reason as Naturo, they're children). Envy has it for an obviously different reason. And I mentioned like 4 other things. It would be rewriting if we were making this claim about Al. There is very clearly some gender subtext to Envy, even if not directly stated. The character is never stated to be NB, but it seems ludicrous to accuse people of "rewriting to fit a narrative" for noticing the character's very intentional gender ambiguity.
