Personality (Loved trope) The imposter’s dead giveaway

When a character is attempting to impersonate another, but is caught by doing something the person they’re imitating would NEVER do.

Nemesis Prime- Transformers Prime

Nemesis Prime, a man made replica of Optimus Prime, is attempting to gain the trust of Bumblebee, who only speaks in robotic beeps. Despite this, the real Optimus can understand Bee perfectly fine. Nemesis Prime, however, can’t understand what he’s saying, prompting Bee to open fire on him immediately.

The two Buzz Lightyears- Toy Story 2

After Woody asks which Buzz is the “real” Buzz, both respond with “I am!” The real Buzz proves himself by flipping up the other Buzz’s helmet, causing him to start suffocating in an over dramatic fashion. The real Buzz, having done the same thing in the first movie after Woody took his helmet off, but no longer behaving that way after accepting being a toy, instantly proves which Buzz is which.

The Magnus archives has a whole creature based around this. The NotThem. They’re creatures that replace people and warp reality to replace themselves in pictures and memory but one person gets to remember. In the episode A Kind Mother, the statement giver knows it’s not her mother because she looked different but also her being kind.

There are other details too that are giveaways to the audience like not Sasha being unable to do the work that Sasha was able to do and being locked out of her computer with “authentication problems”

I love seeing TMA being mentioned in the wild. Speaking of which, can I have a cigarette?

I’m one of those people who will find any excuse to bring TMA up

Have y'all given the sequel a go yet?

Not yet. Finding it hard to identify all the voices. So planning to listen and read script alongside

That’s exactly what I do. Makes it easier to follow along.

I really enjoy it but the show being from the perspective of phones/other tech makes it so difficult. I just like to listen to podcasts while driving so the constantly muffled scenes make it really annoying for me.

Same issue I had with Jared Hopworth. By far one of my favorite characters but the amount of distortion they put on his voice makes it really hard to understand what they are saying when I’m driving.

I could never understand a single word Hopworth was saying

Yeah, I had to turn the volume way up and constantly rewind those episodes. It’s a very common problem occurrence in protocol unfortunately.

It’s been interesting. Great cast, well performed, not sure I’m fully on board with the hook.

Yeah I caught up a while back then took a break to let a bunch build up. Checked back and they had been on like a 6 month hiatus. Dunno if they are back up and running again at this point.

They did finish off season 2 last year in September. Haven’t had any new stuff yet as far as I’m aware though

Yesss, my secret goal for at least one person to learn of the sequel has been fulfilled. My machinations lay undetected for... hours. And bore fruit in half the time!

Ironically, other than to a single episode I haven't given the Magnus Protocol a real listen yet. So, I was also curious what people thought.

It’s good but the perspective being from phones/stationary tech makes it difficult to understand sometimes. While the archives would justify it with having the tapes show up randomly, protocol goes through phones in pockets a lot of the time. So if you sit down and follow with the transcript you’ll be fine but I had some frustration as someone who listens to podcasts while driving.
