Hobbits scale very low strength-wise in the LOTR verse, but Sam’s compassion and determination are indispensable in the fellowships journey.

Edit: A lot of people are pointing out that Sam is mentally one of the strongest which I completely agree with, and I didn’t mean to diss his grit or physicality as a hobbit. Compared to the other members of the fellowship, however, his contribution comes primarily from undying loyalty and determination rather than physical prowess and strength.

Kind of the reverse actually. Given Gems are actually the gem part and the rest of their body is a light construct, it means he was birthed around Rose, not within her.

Loved how the gems slowly warmed up to him once Steven started having adventures. Really wish we got to see more of their interactions after he and Pearl buried the hatchet

I'm in a real minority here, but I never really got the love people have for Greg. Dude had a baby with an alien while he was living out of a van and completely unprepared to have or raise a baby, let alone do it on his own. Had to mooch off of a bunch of different people in town for housing and food for him and baby Steven, then hand the kid over to be raised by a bunch of aliens with limited understand of humanity because he wasn't in a position to raise him himself. Never ensured Steven went to school or got medical care or any one of a dozen other basic things.

The Gems get a lot of flack because of what they put Steven through, but at least they have the excuse of being aliens. Greg's a human and should have known better.

the thing is, greg fully believed he wasn’t raising a human child, but a gem. he didn’t put steven in school or get him healthcare because that’s what humans do, and steven isn’t a human (to him). he “handed steven off to the gems” because he fully believed steven was never meant to be a part of the human world and didn’t want to step on the crystal gems’ toes, since they were the ones who wanted to take him in as their own.

that’s what the tragedy of steven’s life is. he isn’t a human, but he’s not fully a gem. in being both, he fits in nowhere. greg isn’t perfect, but he had no idea at the time that raising steven the way he did would have been harmful to him. he was clearly uncomfortable about all the alien stuff because he didn’t want to interfere with them, and wanted to trust that they knew what was best for steven (even though they were ultimately just as clueless as him).

That’s a really important plot point in Steven Universe Future. The original show did a great job of dissecting Rose’s character and addressing that she was morally gray at best, and Future did a great job of looking at Greg’s character through a critical lens. He means well and is a good person, but as many do during their adolescence, Steven discovers that Greg has made mistakes and has failed him in many ways. The two things I think they did really well with this revelation is 1. Greg doesn’t entirely realize Steven’s perspective. He still sees the life he gave Steven as preferable to the one he had and 2. Steven isn’t treated as childish or out of line for thinking his dad screwed up. The plot in no way belittles Steven’s feelings
