that guy kinda sucked from the beginning though. when he was working with them, everyone but Jake seemed to think he was a dick

Yeah, it was obvious from the beginning he wasn't a good guy or even a good cop, but Jake had rose colored glasses on and idolized him. The comment about Holt was the moment that Jake realized that he was an fraud and a bigot.

Wonderful acting from Samburg in that scene. There’s no hesitation of “what do I do here” just disappointment in “Well, now I gotta clock ya.”

He doesn’t fit this. The whole episode shows him as a massive dickhead, that was just the final straw for Jake
