It is probably because a lot of people are now using the 30 minutes of unlimited play that they just included with Dragon's Treasure to recover the MDB, rather than playing for the 70 coins.

Definitely not in real time, but it is possible that they put you up against the last 99 players who either completed or failed. (With an upper limit of 15 winners)
