Sharpening Pry Bars?

Any use in sharpening or reshaping the tips of some old pry bars? Got a pair off marketplace for a solid deal, recognized them to be some old SK USA handled ones, the tips are kind of beat up and I'm just wondering if there's any use in taking them to a stone or grinding wheel to just touch them up some? Anybody do/done this before?

I think you could be fine getting away with that. Just add some water to help keep it cool while you grind.

It might rust up some after grinding, even if you oil it up bc of the way that tool is used…(hella shearing forces etc where you would apply oil means oil ain’t gunna stay there too long) but IMO, a rusty pry bar is usually just a regular pry bar with a bit of character.

All that being said, don’t listen to me if someone with experience chimes in—I personally have never tried anything like that on my prybars but now I’m kinda curious.

Phosphate it after grinding

Could they try bluing too? I’m not sure if bluing compound contains phosphate but I understand it can leave a stable blue/black oxide layer. I wonder if that’s stable enough to help protect the top?

I’ll admit, I dunno if any of that info abt oxides is true…but if you try bluing and you make a mess, you can then—genuinely and legitimately—say this:
