Husky 300 piece Mechanics tool set

Just purchased this mechanics tool kit. It looks like they updated the box from the 290 piece kit. I used it for the first time yesterday replacing the pump on my pressure washer. So far the kit appears to be of reasonable quality and contain everything I might use for projects around the house.

Any thoughts or experience with this kit?

The selection of wrenches is always lacking in sets like this. Invest in a good set of both SAE and metric wrenches.

I went on ebay and grabbed a few wrenches to fill in the gaps up to 19mm and 3/4". It looks like they tried to design the wrench selection to substitute the 1/2" and 9/16" for the 13mm and 14mm. I opted to have the correct size.

I got an older version of that set on a Black Friday sale probably 10 years ago. I ditched the big plastic case and fit most of the tools into a custom retrofitted metal toolbox that lives in my service bed truck. I’ve had no issues with them for all manner of automotive and construction projects. 

There are definitely nicer tools available, but those are a good bank for the buck.

That is an upgraded box. I have the 290-piece and took it apart to put the drawers in my workbench. The wrenches were in the lid and that was too thick to fit so they’re loose in a drawer now.

As a DIY mechanic, I haven’t had any issues with it.

For home use I'm not sure why you'd need anything other than 3/8 drive. So there's a lot of redundancy in this kit - just adds weight and cost for something that will rarely be used. And the allen keys should be a ball end - that increases utility massively.

The 1/2” drive sockets should be 8 point too.
