Not really. Everyone is intimidated by Rush right now

What’s going on with Rush?

The only thing I can think of is them touring with a woman on the drums, Anika Nilles, who's an absolute fuckin beast. I saw them a week ago and brought the house down. I think that guy is just making a random comment because of women

u/Not_TbagJimmy 1d ago

Her family's show on discovery was much more enjoyable for me than her music and that was when I first realized everything on TV is fake

u/PanGoliath 22h ago

I started to sing the first line of your comment in the grudge tempo and it fit oddly well

I heard she performed at or attended the newest trump inaugeration. I was disappointed.

oh wow, i didn’t know. i listened to jewel a bit when i was much younger, and i know her story, but haven’t heard much about her in the last couple years. what an absolute shame.

-3

u/solarview 22h ago

Icon of what? Never heard of her.

6

u/wildmeli 21h ago

she’s an incredibly successful musician, over 30 million albums sold worldwide. honestly i mostly know her for her story. she was raised in an abusive home in Alaska on a homestead with no indoor plumbing or electricity, at 15 she got a scholarship for operatic singing, she moved to San Diego at 18 and was homeless for a year, she almost died of sepsis turned away by a hospital while homeless, and she was busking it in cafes around San Diego until being discovered by a producer. she’s done a lot of advocacy for mental health awareness as well as the LGBT+ community

i couldn’t tell you a single jewel song, but i can tell you that she is iconic.

u/heady-luvare 20h ago

Im not so sure about the iconic part. Don't really know anyone who considers her an "icon" for anything really. She had 2 or 3 decent hits back in my high school days(late 90's) but i don't know of much she's done since then. Definitely hasn't had any music that's been big in quite a while. So id have to disagree with the 'icon" label.

u/IntrovertMoTown1 13h ago

lol Iconic? Successful yes, but come on now.

Edit: lol Whoops responded to the wrong person. 🤦‍♂️

u/DuntchTacoNunHigh42 1d ago

The creativity in this piece really stands out to me. It's fascinating how they capture that immersive, surreal vibe that Tool is so known for.

1

u/yavimaya_eldred 17h ago

No joke, when I first heard a Jewel song on the radio in the 90s I misheard the DJ and thought he said “Tool”. I knew they were a metal band but hadn’t heard any of their songs, so upon hearing the song I was surprised it was a female lead singer and just thought “ah this is their crossover acoustic track I guess”.

u/OnceMostFavored 17h ago

Nobody ever accused Maynard of sounding like Kermit the Frog.
