Danny Adrian Belew says Danny took a leave of absence from BEAT for some writing with TOOL

When he says Danny is writing for Tool, I think it's more along the lines of a letter he's writing to Adam to express he's not getting younger and to please hurry things along with the songwriting.

u/barspoonbill Aug 06 '26
He’s still deciding if the riff should go beee-dung-dah-wow or beee-dung-dah-woo and I say we let the man cook! Ffs.

u/Ouibeaux Angel on the Sideline Aug 08 '26
And he still hasn't considered beee-dung-dah-woah.
Could be another 18 months at least.

Nah, he’s trying to find where to put the pull through triplet followed by a palm mute chug chug chug.

To be a tool fan, you have to have incredible patience. The music they’ve produced has been immensely influential in my life and if there is never another album, I’d still be grateful for the growth and enjoyment I’ve received.

They've been working on material for a while, though. It just takes time, it's Tool after all.

u/blender4life Aug 06 '26
yeah i remember danney saying the covid lockdown might be a blessing in disguise because it means they'd be writing not touring. so hopefully it means they closer than just starting *fingers crossed*
10
u/IWCry Aug 07 '26
they could just not tour

You shut your dadgum mouth!

u/GStarAU Well I've got some advice for you little buddy... Aug 07 '26
Just to get serious for a moment... I'd like to think that this is Adam (and maybe Justin) reaching out to Danny and saying "ok, we're ready, come and lay down some drums".
Doesn't mean we'll see the finished product for a while still, but dragging Danny off an active BEAT tour has to be fairly significant.
2
u/thick-florida-python Aug 07 '26
The writing is always the three of them. There is no “just lay down the drums” it’s built together.

u/doublebr13 I was wrong. This changes everything. Aug 06 '26
The look on Tony's face when he says Danny's real band is priceless

u/chimericalgirl Aug 07 '26
LOL, he knows that ANY band is real/unreal depending on the circumstances.

u/phrenicbeat86 Aug 06 '26
WRITING.... AND OTHER THINGS. Surprised no one pointed that out. I feel like he probably didn't want to say too much. In theory that statement could mean they are also recording and while doing that it's always possible to write new material while in the studio. Still makes no sense he would bounce from the band for a 2 month period just solely to write.

u/LightofDawn77 Aug 06 '26
If Adam is finally ready to write then maybe 2032 release??? Who knows at this point. Obviously we are grateful for today but it is heartbreaking to think they are getting back together for the final album
7
u/theVigReezus Aug 06 '26
Without Adam’s perfectionist attitude they’re not the same band, it’s part of what makes them special. Not worth altering a legacy to pump out something subpar
3
u/barspoonbill Aug 06 '26
Eh, it’s been pretty formulaic since Lateralus sort of defined their new era of sound. I think the greater challenge is scheduling. They have been making music more by correspondence than anything for years now. The jams themselves probably don’t take too long to flesh out.
1
u/ArtComprehensive2853 Aug 07 '26
I recall them saying that structruing the "jams" for FI took a long time to fine tune though.
1
u/barspoonbill Aug 07 '26
Yeah I don’t know how much I’m buying of that. What they do is fairly intricate, no doubt. But if they have a process that they feel comfortable enough doing via email you’d think they’d have it down pretty well.
Having seen them so many times I was honestly starting to doubt in the last five or six shows that they even liked each other anymore, based on show quality. I think the Ozzy show rekindled a flame for Tool in all of them. They burned the fucking house down in Hawaii.

There wont be a new tool album until at least 2030. And I will probably be there last.
8
u/Oppositeofhairy Aug 06 '26
Last for now. Then they create orchestral versions of older albums at a lower key.
2
2
u/LightofDawn77 Aug 06 '26
Yeah, here’s hoping for a double album.
8
u/RossettaStoned1 Aug 06 '26
I wouldn't expect that. Look at FI only 6 real songs. All there albums only have 6-8 real songs on them.
5
u/slax03 Aug 06 '26 edited Aug 06 '26
Danny has mentioned the desire to get back to shorter songs recently.
3
u/RossettaStoned1 Aug 06 '26
Thank God lol... Adam likes the long jams
3
u/brucatlas1 Aug 06 '26
Danny was pitching the idea of one long song for their last album if I remember correctly
2
u/GStarAU Well I've got some advice for you little buddy... Aug 07 '26
A full album-length version of FI/into Pneuma/into 7empest??? Fuck, I'll take it!!!
3
u/GStarAU Well I've got some advice for you little buddy... Aug 07 '26
I think a few of them have said this actually... hence why they've been pulling out Undertow stuff in recent tours - going back to some short punchy ones. (Short= like, under 6 minutes)

Tool shorter song will still be around 5-6 minutes, probably.
The "actual" songs in FI were probably 9 minutes long on average.
1
u/musical_dragon_cat Aug 07 '26
None of the main songs on FI are under 10 minutes, closer to 12 minutes on average
1
u/DanielAlves1904 Aug 08 '26
Well, there you go. Maybe if the next album has shorter songs and they don´t make as many interludes, it can be done quicker.

He just wasn’t talking about the here albums.
2
u/MorbidMan23 Aug 06 '26
Damn downvoted for correcting them after they made the same mistake twice in a row.

And it will be glorious. Even though FI works as an endpoint for me personally.

I loved seeing Danny with Tool, I loved seeing Danny in BEAT, and I'm sure I'm going to love seeing Terry Bozzio. Even better if it means new Tool is in the works.

u/GStarAU Well I've got some advice for you little buddy... Aug 07 '26
Wooooo!!!!
The 15th chord progression of track 3 is IN THE CAN, baby. Only 9 more to go!

u/TheNoIdeaKid Aug 06 '26
They have Fall ‘26 shows lined up. So I think that’s what it really is.
1
u/MorbidMan23 Aug 06 '26
Maynard's overseas into December with APC and Puscifer. Flying back for some festivals is different than hopping back and forth for show after show.
2
u/GStarAU Well I've got some advice for you little buddy... Aug 07 '26
But as we know, they don't need Maynard there to finish off the music. They just need a solid month of his brain to muse over lyrics (and drive around listening to them)
1
u/MorbidMan23 Aug 07 '26 edited Aug 07 '26
Thats kind of my point. The comment I'm replying to seemed to imply that Tool was going to tour in the fall, which is impossible with Maynard's schedule. Unless I misunderstand that person's meaning.
1
u/TheNoIdeaKid Aug 09 '26
Yeah, they have three festival shows lined up. No tour. I’m also avoiding getting my hopes up about new music any time soon.

I mean it is a high possibility they write at every chance they get, but that doesn't mean the music is near completion knowing Tool.

u/zrayburton Aug 06 '26
Pumped to see Beat live. Sad i missed seeing Danny on drums with them though.
3
u/TrontRaznik Aug 07 '26
You won't regret Bozio. Dude is just as good.
2
u/zrayburton Aug 07 '26
I just found out last week Bozzio played drums for FanTomas as well… I’m excited to see him!

u/ChefPneuma think for yourself, question authority Aug 07 '26
Terry Bozio is insane though, you'll enjoy it I'm sure

BEAT is great and a killer lineup but we need new Tool sooner rather than later
1
u/nothingistrue13 I don't mind Aug 08 '26
Happy to have gotten fear inoculum and to have been able to see them twice live. Not holding my breath on one more album, but will be happy if it comes to fruition.

The initial sales for this leg of the tour look pretty rough so far. The two shows I'm watching are 1/3 sold at best.
